I used to have an evening paper route. I was never an early riser. It paid 4 shillings a week.I think I spent all my wages in the newsagents on sweets. Nowadays the hourly minimum wage in Ontario is more than I got for a weeks wage as a 16 year old apprentice. Respect comes from being brought up in a different age, namely the 50's 60's and 70's where your parents had just enough to get by and no money for luxuries. I am glad that I learnt the value of money and taught to look after the things I bought.
+James Weber There is something about having to save up and work for the things you want. Learning that important life skills as a youngster is crucial. My paper round was 6 mornings a week and I got paid £1.50. Thought I was rich!!!
It wouldn't be a bad thing to bring back the National Service. We need to teach our kids respect for others from a young age. It's a leftwing culture that 'SELF' is more important than anything else or anyone else.
Yes National Service might well be a way of instilling discipline and respect as well as an ethic of hard work. Plus a way of developing self respect and self pride. Something a lot of youngsters need to learn.
We have raised a generation of the entitled. With entitlement comes a lack of respect. We are also to blame by allowing the powers that be to change the laws to give a slap on the wrist instead of making the youth fearful of breaking the law. The kids today know they can get away with much more than we ever could. Respect is learnt in the home from an early age. Its not something you buy online with PayPal.

+Steve Jones Yeap. I was given the slipper in school on 2 separate occasions. Let's just say I learnt from it!! I also used to have a paper round, I look back on that and realise it taught me so much about work ethic, saving, and understanding that money doesn't grow on trees. Thanks for your comments. Glad you like the videos.
