  • I am proud to finally present this massive project to the world. I really pushed myself beyond my limits in order to produce this chaotic machine. With a counted total of 265 steps and eight tables, this machine may be the largest machine designed by a single builder in the community.
This machine took five months to design, build, test and clean. When I say five months, I don't mean I was caught up with other things and only worked on this for a few hours a month. When I say five months, I mean I put as much work into the machine as possible while dealing with difficult classes, a time consuming marching band and other activities. Overall, I'd say I spent at least 100 hours on this project total, just to produce for seven minutes of footage.
This is easily the largest machine that I have ever built, and also the last machine that I will build of this size for a while. As you may have noticed, 2017 was a quiet year for my channel. That is not because I have lost interest in building, but because I spent 1/3 a year making the Toothpaste Machine, a 1/3 a year making Spicing it Up #2, and the final third making this with a few small projects here and there. While these larger projects are more impressive, they take a very long time to build and create, and it keeps me from uploading as much as I would like to. Another problem is that with a machine built of this size is the limitation on materials. When I built this machine, I used up almost all of my materials and had to be very conservative with what I built in order to fill all of the tables. I actually purchased $60 of Knex on eBay for this project, and still ran out of Knex to the point where I actually had to ask my friends if I could borrow any spare Knex that they had lying around. Another material that I used a lot of was tape. Last year when I built the Toothpaste Machine, I remember being like "Woah! I used five whole rolls of tape to make this!"
In this machine, I used twelve. And I used an entire package of tape just fixing things to prevent fails. That's a LOT of tape, seeing how the average project only takes one or two.
On top of this, the massive machine failed 460 times and took two months to get it to work once. That said, I will be reverting to screenlinks and 1-2 table machines for a while, which will allow me to provide more impressive tricks in the future. This is actually good news, because now that I will be building smaller projects, I can promise you that there will be much more uploads in the future that will be just as, if not more, impressive than this one.
Like the music? I decided to try something new in terms of music in honor of this major machine by using music that I composed myself!

Huge thank you to cwdreactions for his contributions made to this project! He filmed the intro clip with the mouthwash and also edited the video. I highly recommend that anyone who enjoys in my videos should his channel out as well.
cwdreactions: / @cwdreactions . I would also like to thank everyone that loaned me materials along the way.
There are twenty-eight green 28's hidden throughout the machine in honor of this being the 28th machine in my chain reaction series which extends over five years. If you are up for the challenge, try to find them all. Almost every trick has at least one 28 hidden near it.
Thank for you watching! I hope that you enjoyed this video!
I am interested in commissioned work. If you have any needs pertaining to chain reaction art, please feel free to email me at sirgabealot11@gmail.com.

This machine is seriously amazing. It's clearly your best work, and the amount of time and effort you put into it really shows. I can imagine your excitement to finally release this to the world. I was in your place, less than one year ago. (In fact, this video was uploaded on almost the exact date that I started BLM last year.) After watching this several times, including once in slow motion, I feel like I can give a proper response to the greatness you've created. I have a few things to say about specific tricks, then a few things about the machine and your style as a whole.
    *Comments About Specific Tricks:*
-The opening trick with the four white ping pong balls being pushed into place was very creative. Very good choice for a first trick, it really sets up what to expect later on.
-The mechanism that pulls the car back up the tracks at 1:09 struck me as extremely interesting for some reason. It's a technique I think I had only seen once before, only a little differently (Alex's soda machine with the Brio train on the machine wall). Very elegant way to accomplish the motion you wanted.
-I did notice the attempt to recreate the trick from DvM4, where the ball gets hit by the balance swing again after bouncing back. Don't think I didn't catch the fact that it didn't hit it twice in the full version! ;) I really liked the "Spicing It Up" rendition of the trick, though. I was not expecting the track underneath to collapse.
-The trick at 1:23 reminds me quite a bit of the trick I made in BLM where there was a track on the end of a rod that flipped over 180 degrees, but did a full flip in the process. I did my trick with gears, where you just had the track hit a rod on the way down. A bit less elegant, but I got the sense you weren't really trying to make that trick a main idea. Just felt I should point out I noticed the inspiration!
-One trick I found quite interesting, but I feel like it won't get much attention, is the shifting block on the zigzag board. It's a really neat idea, but I feel like it should have been explored more. Maybe make the block move several times, or maybe put shifting blocks on both sides. Maybe even try to make the blocks shift so that they switch sides. I realize that space was an issue in your case, but if I had that idea, I wouldn't have tried to squeeze it in there. I would have thought of something else that would fit better, and save the zigzag board trick for later. That way, I would have enough room to explore the potential of the trick more fully. That said, I am definitely inspired to try my own version of that trick and implement some of these suggestions!
-The trick with the collapsing cup is totally a trick that I would make! I love seeing creative, elegant motions like that, especially when they're done well.
-I also noticed (although this could be a coincidence) that the train trick at 2:25 was inspired by a Fail Factor trick I made. Nice to see that basic idea incorporated into something that actually works. ;)
-Another trick I would totally make is the tracks collapsing in opposite directions at 2:39. This is a really nice looking trick, possibly one that I might try to adapt myself.
-I really liked the lift at 2:56. It was really unexpected, which I loved. A trick doesn't necessarily have to be overly complicated to stand out. Sometimes an unexpected motion can have the same effect.
-Another trick that reminded me of other tricks I've seen in the past was the one at 3:22. To me, it looked like a combination between the bead chain trick that Steve and I made at Lily's studio in the Charity Livestream machine, and the slinky trick I made for the beginning of the Trickshot Machine.
    *Comments About the Machine/Your Style:*
-One thing I noticed that I had never noticed before in your machines, was the fact that sometimes, the tricks were nicely interconnected, and flowed together well. My style pretty much revolves around this principle, and I saw you pull it off in a few places in this machine. The one area it stands out the most to me is the end of the table with the car that slides down and up the ramp (1:09). You've got two tricks that flow really well into each other (the track for the yellow ball that gets pushed up and down the track leads perfectly into the 90 degree rotating track that carries that same ball), and you've got two tricks that are interconnected (the purple ball rolls down one of the same tracks that the car rolled down). This is the kind of thing I love seeing the most in machines. It's one thing to have cool tricks, but if they're mostly separated by just domino & string connections, the machine loses a lot of charm in my opinion. But when each of the tricks is pieced together in a way where each motion flows nicely into the next, or where some motions overlap, the machine instantly more interesting and impressive.
-This machine definitely had it's fair share of foreign object tricks, and they were very good. I liked that you didn't fall into the trap of "justputatrackonit-ism," which is the idea that even if you just tape a track to a foreign object, it counts as a foreign object trick. In my opinion, foreign objects should always take advantage of a unique property or movement of the foreign object. All your foreign objects definitely did that, from the magnetic roller, to the giant slinky, to the Newton's Cradle, to the fiber optic feather thing (and the cup on top), to the book, to the fidget spinner. All of them were used in ways unique to that object; if they were replaced with anything else, the trick would not have been possible.
-One thing I admire about your style is your use of big tricks to break up the pacing of the machine. Of course, the major highlight in this machine was the giant slinky, but the light-up ball that bounced, and the shoebox trick were other examples of larger-than average tricks that were done quite well.
-Slightly related to my point about my style revolving around the principle of tricks being connected elegantly and flowing well into each other, is the fact that I don't really have what you might consider "connections" in my machines. I've spoken about this before, but that's largely due to the fact that I try to turn my connections into small, simpler tricks themselves. When I say that my tricks tend to flow into each other nicely, it's a bit misleading because usually my main ideas are connected by connections, just like any other builder. The difference is that I place a slightly higher focus on making my connections interesting, so they almost look like another trick, instead of just a connection. I saw some interesting connections in this machine, but I would have liked to see more. The bead chain trick at 3:22 sticks out to me as a good example of what I like to see. That could have easily just been a "ball rolls down track" connection, but you added a simple, but interesting, trick to it that turned the connection into another trick. As a general rule of thumb, I don't like to ever have a sequence in my machine where a ball is released at the top of the track, and it hits a domino at the bottom (unless I absolutely have to, for timing reasons usually). I'm not saying you absolutely have to follow this advice, I just figured I'd share my perspective since you might find it interesting.
-I also noticed for the first time how you paid special attention to the reset process, and tried to make it as easy as possible. I liked how you put barriers at the end of a lot of the tracks to prevent the balls from rolling off the edge. I also liked how some of the strings would catch on the supports so that they wouldn't fall completely to the floor. Simple things like this show a lot of care went into building this, and it shows that you're definitely progressing as a machine builder.
Overall, of course I'm very impressed by this machine. You did an absolutely fantastic job on this, and it was about time the community received another flagship machine by a top builder. This should be very difficult competition in the 2018 Awards, that's for sure. Although I'm not letting you win that easily, I've got some stuff planned! ;)

jackofallspades98 I'm glad that you liked the machine! A few things to say in response to your comment:
-For connections, I actually tried to do a little more than the basic "ball on a track", which is why the rolling dice block and the three balls that hit each other exist in this machine. I will admit that I did use a lot of basic connections regardless though. This is something I'll hopefully change in the future
-Okay, so if you look real close at the ball kicker trick on the second table, you'll actually notice that I put a Jack of Spades card by it as an Easter Egg type thing XD That trick and the one behind it with the flipping track were directly inspired from DvMs 4 and the Bet Losing machine. The second I saw that ball kicker trick in DvMs 4, I knew that I had to try that out. So I took the last of my Knex and put it toward that trick. The ball kicker trick hit the ball twice only about 10% of the time, which was unfortunate but it looked cool regardless.
-I love the giant slinky XD It's kind of funny because after I took the machine down and took the Slinky off of the pole, it has actually been hanging like that for so long, it doesn't compress now unless I put a weight on it. I'll have to send you a pic.
-What did you think of the Newton's Cradle trick?
-I LOVE the fiber trick. I set out to build a better trick with the fiber thing than I did last year (although last year's was fairly impressive), and I remember trying to come up with something and playing with the fibers when I just took up a cup randomly lying on the table and put it on top of the fibers and when I saw how perfectly that worked, I actually started cheering XD
It's probably my favorite trick in the machine.

Also really liked the use of the Q-ba maze track being used as a ball thrower, it's quite simple, but makes for such a nice effect that's very visually appealing! Alright well I've definitely got a lot to say about this machine, aside from the usual - "this was awesome" and "this thing is huge!"
I think JOAS98 mentioned this, but it's very clear you're paying more attention to detail and resettability, which is very good. I know I'm not one to talk, but your machines are looking a lot more professional (even more so than mine, actually). Okay, now on to the tricks.
1:01 I like the swinging arm idea a lot, and it was a really cool idea to use all the balls to do something and then use them to create a track. Interesting method of moving the yellow ball across the top. Also nifty reuse of the initial path of all those balls.
1:07 Neat idea to have the rolling lever pull its own counterweight off the table! I like that - no extraneous steps - everything that happens to it, it does itself. Then it moves back and its backward motion raises its own lever! Again, no extraneous steps! And again, a nifty reuse of the track the rolling lever uses. You just know I have a soft spot for multi-uses ;)
1:20 I didn't see that track drop coming! Interesting take on the swinging pendulum idea
    1:27 wooooooooo SLINKAYYY
1:35 the entire Newton's cradle sequence was wonderfully multi-use. I absolutely loved it :D
1:53 the cup and that fiber thing is one of my favorite foreign object ideas. Such a cool way to release a cup!
2:12 has to be one of the most SATISFYING multi-use objects-fall-into-place machine ideas I've seen in a while. Wonderfully smooth and soooooooo good.
2:20 this K'nex structure has a really neat motion that I did NOT see coming (for whatever reason). Loving the unpredictability :D
2:22 you use a lot of these perpetual motion machines (I think that's what they're called) in this machine in new and creative ways and this is one of my favorite such uses.
2:28 the way the train plops into place is so satisfying!
2:39 the diverging K'nex tracks are a really neat idea - yet another oddly satisfying trick
2:45 another creative use of a perpetual motion machine! You're very creative, especially when it comes to using foreign objects in new ways or moving them around unexpectedly
2:52 I know it's just a small thing but I love the way this direction changer swings a bob around in a circle. So neat!
2:55 subtle multi use in placing the pink ball on the marble cascade. I thought it was almost unintentional until it turned out the marble cascade was actually a BALL LIFT! Wow! I got prankd
2:59 man the purple ball goes ALL over the top of this shoebox! Loving the sinuous and complex nature of this trick. That shoebox does some mad tiltin'
There's so much cool stuff in this machine that I've almost certainly missed some things! Good thing I'm gonna be rewatching plenty of times :P
This machine was flat out amazing not only in size but in creativity and complexity. So many neat little multi-uses and creative uses that might slip by a casual viewer were embedded in there and it was awfully fun to watch it and pick them out. Nicely done! This machine is definitely worth the effort, and I commend you for your perseverance (that's a lot of fails!!).

VERY very nicely done!! I love how even though the machine was complicated, it was easy to follow and cleaned up which made the viewing experience that much enjoyable. I really saw a lot of unique ideas and tricks but here is my favorites.
0:58 Love how the balls straightened out pretty satisfying honestly
1:24 I LOVE good track tricks and this is an example of one, could've gone easy and just made the track fall down straight but added the flip in which really makes this cool.
    1:26 slinkys are great
1:36 seen it many times and I still love it. Really wish I had one of these. Nice job on the multi-use of it too.
1:52 This might be my favorite trick of the machine. Such a unique way of transporting the cup. Looks AMAZING
2:12 Yet another great multi use trick. This one looks very clean also, hard to made it look that way.
2:21 Really nice and pretty creative also.
2:35 Trying to convince my friend to add a trick in the machine with a spinning fidget spinner not just one that stays put, might be the evidence i need.
    2:41 Another great track trick
2:58 I love it when things go flying, great example
    3:03 Good triple use trick

    • @sirgabealot01
      @sirgabealot01  Před 4 lety

Make sure you tape/hot glue things down. Most balls can be held on tracks with just string. Tracks don't need to be super steep for a ball to roll over them. Knex is extremely helpful if you know how to use it. Build machines while keeping camera angles and how you're going to film it in mind.
Overall, making machines is pretty complex and takes a lot of practice, but over time you'll develop strategies and ideas to make your machines great. Every trick I do requires different mechanisms and setups and structures, so the best thing to do is to just get started and see what you can do, then keep building and you'll grow from there :)

I admire your ability to make a 265 step chain reaction and leave it for 5 months without destroying it in anger. Makes me want to build a machine now...but the awards...sigh.
Also those shaky hands at the beginning are probably why you're not a domino builder. ;)

"Why not? *gasps* Do you not trust me to reset this?!"
      "No"
Lol. I miss you guys at ISM. Hopefully I'll get to see you all again.

This is definitely your best machine yet! I was thinking to my self that you haven't been posting lately.. Now I know why! I thought the first song was NCS, I guess I was wrong! It sounded really good! I also noticed that you camera shots are looking so good! This is by far your best machine! You did an awesome job! Can't wait for more!

NKS Productions Thanks man! I used some of those marble tracks you gave me! They were great! And I'm glad you liked the music! It was a lot of fun to make. I'll hopefully have the music uploaded separately soon.

Wow, I can tell you put a ton of effort into this machine and it is your best work. Loved every second of it. I truly mean it when I say you are one of my favorite builders. (Also sorry I took so long to comment.)

You see, I was wondering why no one commented on the music. But I suppose people enoy the actual content of the machine more than the music. Or rather, that's the more important part to comment on. Heh.

bad lighting on the end, why use the floor under a table?

    • @sirgabealot01
      @sirgabealot01  Před 6 lety +3

I know. Pouring the mouthwash off of a small table was the best strategy that I I could come up with on a strict material constraint and for some reason the lighting fell short when I got there on the final take. Regardless of this, did you enjoy the rest of the machine?
