    I'm sure Haydn wasn't a human, no ordinary human being can create such a highly detailed and delicate music, he was an alien in the form of human living at this planet for a short period of time, by the way, this was absolutely beautiful and strong performance of one of Haydn's creations.

      Haydn was an imense genius, sometimes, or often, in the shadow of Mozart and Beethoven (and I LOVE Beethoven and Mozart, whose geniuses are beyond question 💗). This great genius, master of Classissimus is the most prolific and never prolixic. Amazing creativity! The creator of the string quartet (a passion of my entire life) no mean thing!!! (so incredible are Haydn SQs.). Idolized by Mozart and Beethoven too... And on top of such a grace a special sense of humour, sometimes in his SQs amazingly bold too. Haydn is Legacy of Mankind ... This interpretation is superb, so elegant, with plenty of grace!

    I heard Harriet Krijgh in August last year in the palace of Brühl, Germany, when she played this concerto by Haydn together with the Württembergische Kammerorchester Heilbronn. It was great. Beyond this I've got a CD of her playing the two cello concertos by Haydn together with the Wiener Kammerphilharmonie - also an eccellent performance.

I have a strong interest in the perception of intonation in discerning sets of ears among us. Cheers.

      @BetterMe981 Před 4 lety +2

      @@YapLapWombat Hi... I see this is a year later... but since the original poster hasn't answered maybe I can. First off let me say I love this cellist Harriet! I have newly discovered her and I think she is just a beautiful musician through and through. Her phrasings and passion for whatever piece she's playing at any given moment are wonderful. But yes, in any of her scaly runs you can hear several pitches just slightly off pitch, either flat or sharp. That's in most pieces she plays, too, not just this one. And guess what? That's with ALL great and professional cellists and ALL great and professional musicians. What people don't seem to understand these days, thanks to recordings that have "fixed" pitches and natural tones to give them an unrealistic technical edge, this is what music IS. We practice and practice the make the best pitches possible, and our passion and musicality in performances over-rides things like pitch, posture and balance, as it well should because that IS music! The best thing anyone can do is to NOT listen to recordings. If we listen to recordings of, say, Yo Yo Ma, get that sound in our heads, then go hear him play in person, we will be sorely disappointed, blaming him, which is completely wrong.
      I hope that helped. Cheers!

    I apologise for this daft question but, knowing nothing about this type of music, is someone leading the music? In other words in the absence of an obvious conductor does someone else take over so to speak? If so is it the tall, blonde lady near the cello player? Although I’ve never listened to this type of music before I love watching experts performing their art - and this to me looks and sounds wonderful.

      In Haydn's time there was still something baroque, the harpsichord, an instrument of the continuous bass led the orchestra, that is to say the musicians knew the markings. The "spala" (1st violin) or soloist (clove case) could do it. In this concert he is the first violin that he directs.
