"I think Bruce Lee is Bruce Lee, and Jean-Claude Van Damme is Jean-Claude Van Damme". Respect.
And I think I am me and you are you?
Great answer

The proper response should’ve been Bruce Lee as a legend I respect him but he’s him and I’m Jean-Claude Van Damme!

1988 was one of my happiest years. Damn how I miss the 80s, heart breaking those days will never come back.
Me too Jay.
I still listen to mostly 80s music.
Hard Rock and what was in the charts at the time.
That was literally like the BEST year of the 20th century...
Even I miss the 80s + 70s and I wasn’t even alive
Agreed mate
Today's more of couille vide 19 days, which can be translated by empty ball 19 days
One of the few celebrities who is a genuinely kind and warm hearted individual.
I'd like to believe that!...buuut the evidence does not always point that way! Still, I love JCVD, just awesome. All men want to be like him, all women want to be with him!!!
JBMaximize What evidence? He always seems really nice and generous with his time in all of the interviews I've seen him in. I remember him on "Hey Hey It's Saturday" years ago and he actually stayed around for the rest of the show after the interview was finished. He told the host "I like you Daryl, you're a nice guy", and when Daryl asked him what his favourite movie was in his career, Van Damme said "oh, they're all pretty bad" (not exactly true, because Bloodsport kicks ass, but I was surprised at his honesty about his career).
Yes. Any guy that loves animals, has a good heart. He's the best out of all 80s muscle actors... My opinion. 🤣💖
Phoenix Vanguard say that the stuntman whose eye he savagely gouged out during the filming of cyborg
Roberto Masensi that was an accident and he paid damages for that.
i remember being a teen in 1988-1989 spending a night at my friends house and he had had gotten bloodsport on vhs. that was the best night ever. played some nintendo and watched some good movies..bloodsport being the best of em
People back then seemed way more in-tune with the present moment compared to nowadays where everything is instantaneous pleasure, attention span keeps decreasing among everyone including kids & young adults, & now we have something everyone is obsessed about these days (our phones) that completely ruins the whole point of watching a movie when you pull it out. Less distractions will always be far superior than constant dopamine hits.
Sounds like an episode of Regular Show!! The 80s, good times!!!!
Young and full of energy
80s ruled. Anyone who wasn’t there I feel for you.
Totally agree
Agreed. Glad I lived through it!!
Hell yea best time to be a kid! I loved being a kid in the 80s it was a magical time!
thanks grandpa
I was there for the whole thing… except the first year. 😞
Those old fashioned interviews. Silly, but somehow genuine and warm.
Right? I thought the same. Weird. Lol
Everything has to be done ironically now.
he was one of my heroes when i was a kid...he's one of the reasons i've always been interested in martial arts and started kickboxing.
Did u kick any A tho?
Ya same. Legend! I think he does karate tho right?
then you grow up and see real fighters and find his muscles small and soft compared to real fighters in real time.
@@donaldrobinson7063 Nope, I still find JCVD inspirational and a badass
@@PauIdenino that is what Hollywood is for. I did go see Cyborg in 1989 summer going into my freshman year and member thinkin that his arch nemesis and his crew had a few ripped dudes that made my hero look pretty avg. Luckily he had cool weapons and was super super super still pissed he could not hold and stop his famly from falling in the well as he was a weak boy and the barbedwire that tore his hands hurt too much to save them. Ultimately letting them go killing them all. Only because of this traumatic flashback talking to that braless curly redhead big puckered top lip girl did he ultimately show how bad ass he would be in the future apocalyptic scenario. I admit this was bad ass back then.
This is why I love CZcams.. Stumbling on some old Van Damn interview from the 80's.
Funny reporter and great interview!
"I did my split, I showed my muscles, and I said I'm the best and I'm not too expensive right now, take me now." LOL, he was so adorable. :)
That's how to go to ANY job interview by the way.
@@lastcosmonaut 😂😂
@@lastcosmonaut Works best with a great smile like his.
Then he unzipped his pants and said, how much do you really want to be a star.
That is absolutely hilarious
Vandamme was the reason i was the toughest kid in school. He was the reason i got into combat sports and later my line of work.....Much love and respect to him and all his fans too!!
I battered you in school day in day out for calling yourself Jean.
What was your line of work? A time traveling cop,a hired assassin,a soldier from the future,a leader of an international crime syndicate ring,or a kickboxer seeking revenge?
Bum on the street
@@SotPSotPSotP Oh so Lionheart

He nailed this role and he cemented himself as a great action star of the 80s and early 90s.

Fight to survive - paul hertzog
KUMITE KUMITE KUMITE KUKITE! Yeah great song.
80s had many great songs
There was such an innocence around that time. Today everything has to be dead-serious-gangsta-thug-corrupt-and-depressing.
Your so right, everything has to.be edgy and controversial, I miss characters like van dame. Even girls and boys were more innocent back then it seems. I'm 30, so was born in 1990, but doesn't take rocket scientist to see contrast.
It’s people inundating themselves with this constantly at such a young age.
@It Is Cool "Ice Cube - Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It " lol
It's only getting worse and worse too.. it's to come to a terrible end at some point soon. or a horrible change! like everyone for themselves!
maybe you should stop watching whatever you're watching all the time lmao
I miss these days 1988 I was born in 79 the 80's were epic renting tapes for movies, some of the best movies of all time, and these best action actors so entertaining to watch. Like I said I miss these days someone build me a time travel device please lol
I have never seen this one, thanks for posting.
As a young, graduated teenager, this movie was epic for me. I will never forget coming out of the theater thinking, this guy I just watched is going to be huge, and for a time he was. He had the entire package, and a lot of charisma, wish things had turned out a bit different for him in regard to the self-destructive tendencies and later his bipolar diagnosis.
He is still one of my top 3 action movie heroes from my teenage years, and I think to this day, Double Impact is one of the best movies form the 90s for me. I really enjoyed JCVD's performance as twin brothers, it is just a feel-good movie for me, maybe that is weird.
There will never be another Jean-Claud Van Damme, he is still the man!
Double impact is my fav van damme movie aswell, he played both opposite roles so well. Peak acting. Not to mention great action and funny too.
80's girls were much more attractive!
believe me, she has a carpet between her legs
MrZillas Well my eyes were looking at her face lol
MrZillas
That's OK !
I'll vacuum that carpet with my mouth !
if your luck you can almost see skin
Of course :)
3:36 the guy sparring with Van Damme is Mohamed (a.k.a Michel) Qissi, a very good friend of him. He played Paredes in Bloodsports and Tong Po in Kickboxer (one of the most badass Vilain of martial arts movies). You're welcome.
Van dame child hood friend
I noticed that in the sparring scene. Michel Qissi is awesome. Great to see him.
Oh wow.. I didn't realize he was also Tong Po! shave the head with a long ass pony tail and makes sense!
He was also in lionheart aswell...I think hes been in a few if jcvds movies
Qissi's brother also played the main villain in both The Quest and Lionheart.
He spoke better english in the 80’s than now..
Lol
Jcvd que caballero y que guapo
Plus his accent sounds pretty good honestly
You're right 😆
Look up Arnold Schwarzenegger on Johnny Carson.
He spoke better English in the early 80s too...
Such a humble and easy going human being. I love him.
I don't get tired of watching his movies, some A and B and C style. I don't care. Just to see him act they way he acts is good enough. Even my kids know who he is since I got more than 11 VHS MOVIES.😁 A legend that must be remembered
Same here 😄 my son has never seen his films because he’s too young, but he knows all about him!
Jean Claude Vandamm,,, ----- he didn't use any gimmicks when he started the fight scenes, different pulleys and cables to make him fly in the air.
Everything was fair, practicing kicks and punches.
He is one of the last true fighter actors who made and shot movies the honest way.
Hats off to Van Damme and hats off to all the fighters who starred with Van Damme movies.
Glory to the honest fighters
For sure, but there's quite a few great fighter actors today. Especially Scott Adkins, who not only does all his martial arts but also almost all the tricking aerial moves in the series Undisputed.
@@TomUsurp Error, he also used cable pulleys in the movie. Undisputed ,, Scott Adkins
@@jackiehumper1538 there’s no error. Your pulley accusation is a separate story. Clearly he doesn’t use a pulley in this training video: czcams.com/video/yYgc8MDwLL4/video.html
@@TomUsurp 😂🤣😃 If you are convinced of it, then yes.
Those Women fasion statements in 80s..... Fantabulous
Jean Claude has excellent kicks.
It's his flexibility
And talent.
I thought his acting was great i never noticed the kicks
2:05 : Do you know how hard it is to do that spinning jump kick..and he did like it was nothing in a small space..that's amazing and alot of training
He made it look like nothing
back than they hand't social media, gsm, laptop etc they had more time to commit to something else like training, the amount of hours he commited to sports at that age ...
I don't really know but thought so as well, he did it as easy as some other people don't even tie their shoelaces.
He is the best for me. A legend... since my youth until today and a role model. Even if he has experienced a lot of shit. A fighter shows how he comes out of such situations again and continues his way. Stronger than before.
My next door living cousin brought me his vhs's when i would be 'sick'from school, realy good memories, this one i liked the most, till watch it sometimes, other favorites The Last Dragon, Big trouble in little china, the lost boys those still give me gooood vibrations, im from 1976 and remember the 80's very positive
В России и в странах бывшего СССР у тебя много поклонников. Спасибо за фильмы! Многие начали заниматься карате и кикбоксингом глядя на тебя в кино.

@@Ytomany i know he ended up doing ALOT of cocaine which is why his face looks so different now. But does ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA WHEN EXACTLY HE STARTED DOING COCAINE?? That's what I've been wondering. Because he looks clean here.
Paul Brown at the height of his career he started doing it because youknow Hollywood and he was an adventurous guy youknow the party guy
Nothing but love and respect for my man JCVD!
From a big fan from U.K!!!

After watching all of John Claude Van damme's movies I started training and eating healthy to get jacked up like him he's so muscular and he's a great actor and I love Bloodsport
He never really got props for it back in the day but dude was incredibly charismatic
I just said the same thing. Im like wow...this guy is Hungryyy and has it all! Today hes much different and not so open or humorous as he used to be!
@@robd1329 he used to do cocaine, the drugs took their toll on his body & personality.

"Bloodsport" and "The Quest" made my childhood. Thanks J.C.
I'm sure I wasn't the only one alone in my room as an 8 year old kid singing this theme song while practicing the splits.
@Wildlife Warrior lol awe shucks 🤣
This video is gold. GOLD. Thanks for posting it.
Nice cameo in sparring by Michel Qissi who played Tong Po in Kickboxer and Parades in Bloodsport.
sparring in a weight room is easily the most 80's thing that has ever happened
Awesome... this needs to be on the blu ray of "Bloodsport"!
In those days, my uncle would visit us few times a month. And he had always the VHS tape of Bloodsport with him. And re watching it everytime was never boring.
This is the greatest interview EVER! Such an awesome dude! JCVD Forever!
Anyone else believe JCVD would whoop Seaguls ass?
jcvd vs Bruce lee
steven is a fatass chicken shit
Brad Pitiful Of all the gruesome things I’ve seen, not to uppercase seagulls is the WORST
You monster
BRIANBA100 no...Bruce lee would murder him go look up all archive Bruce lee footage
Nah, Seagul is legend! Deadly aikido master and let's not forget he invented front kick and showed it to A. Silva and L. Machida who then ko-ed their opponents with it.
Love Van Damme! God I miss the 80s! :)
Interviews were so much more interesting back then
That freeze in the end. THATS a million dollar smile if i ever saw one!
Jean Claude Van Damme was one of the few that actually went inside Kowloon city right before they demolished it. Crazy! But lucky to see the history there.
His voice sounded so different, so much higher O.o
Thats because he was 27 years old here. Your vocal chords age when u get older, it makes your voice deeper and rough sounding
Thank you Jean-Claude for all your Movies 🎥
You motivated me when I was a little kid and still to this day when I go to the gym 👍👍😂
one of a best movie bloodsport
He's got the best body period
i need a time machine to meet Julie
hell yeah! lol
Hilarious interview. Van damme as it stands today, is the best martial artist actor in the world
You know he absolutely crushed it after this interview
I was thinking exactly the same.
@DjOmega1984 Yes, he played Tong Po in Kickboxer (1989). His name is Michel Qissi, a good friend of Van Damme. Michel Qissi also played in Bloodsport, Lionheart and Kickboxer 1 & 2.
Even the interview ended like an 80's Van Damme flick!
I miss the 80s and 90s so much. Glad I was alive to witness those times.
The 80's was such a great time... thanks for the post, because it really took me back...👍🙏

Kicking as high as 8' and a jumping side kick at 6' high is beyond impressive. Great man. Not to mention a humble man.
Thank you for posting this old video
seriously one of the best interviews
True story I met this kid who would train regularly at our school gym during lunch. He took off his shirt one day and he was bigger than every one of the kids in the room. I asked him how he trained. He said he did calisthenics and Taekwondo. He said he was inspired by Stallone, Van Damne, and Arnold. I will never forget this dude...
You seem impressed by that. I would too probably. Haha!
sparring partner is actually tong po the villain from kickboxer/ and the guy whos leg been kick out by bolo yeung in bloodsport 3:38
+Gunny Akdo Good Catch!
Rubbish sparring partner isn't tong po . Tong po real name was tong po u idiot and he was Bulgarian . The guy sparring is a close friend of van damne
this guy is michel qissi aka tong po jackie soprano

Epic. Thanks for this video
What a gem. Thanks for sharing.
It is not about who is better. They all have strong points and weak points, that's human. I ever have liked Jean-Claude, as a person. he IS fascinating and inspiring and he is a good person.
Thanks for sharing this!
A few thoughts :
1) Jean-Claude is in phenomenal shape, and his karate is spot on in technical terms. Very pure technique, lovely to see.
2) Nice to see a throwback to another time where we did not take ourselves so seriously but we got on, had fun and got things done.
3) At 3:37 Is Jean-Claude sparring (lghtly) with none other thanTong Po?! (Mohamed Qissi)
4) Nearly 34 years after the move came out and I saw it at the cinema, before seeing it again loads of times, sometimes alone sometimes dragging another person (my best mate, also a karateka, my dad, my mum, another mate), and despite my creaking joints, I STILL find this inspiring!
Awesome! Thanks for posting!
OmG! Van Damme was so cute back then!!! I abosulutley adore him. Thank God for true fans like yall that upload this Archival footage that you cant see anywhere eles.

I've always been mesmerized by Jean Claude Van Damme
There's just something special about the 80s and 90s don't know what. I wish they made bloodsport 2 a few years after like 1990. I thought that was one if his best movies.
