Very good!!! Ur diagnosis method for the can system is spot on. U sir, know what ur doing! Many people would have replaced so many parts and never find the issue. This method shows exactly to find which module is causing noise on the can lines. A single faulty module can bring down the entire system and have the car doin VERY dangerous things. Like going into park randomly while driving. Very dangerous. It's good to know what ur doing. Makes "cheap" BMWs very easy to come by lol

I have an 2011 and I don't have the blue connector. It's made into the harness. I've read that if it isn't hooked up then it could make the water pump come on too. My problem is that the water pump comes on and off then drains the battery. There are no faults. My connector was broken on the negative battery cable but I can't find a replacement anywhere. Only the type that's in your video that i have to use an adapter to connect to but if I get the adapter I still have no where to connect the blue small connector.

Hello AZ Car Keys & Computers,
Love the video. Chasing alternator issue on E60 M5 and only IBS, alt, and Oil sensor on the bus.
Already replaced alternator, so now believe it is oil sensor, just installed as I write, 05/13/2022. Will check and have back-up IBS unit. Think I will try to scope from IBS and see if I get a signal on the bus as my part is not a direct BMW replacement. Swap-tronics? Maybe, but betting on oil level sensor.
My colleges do not understand that a faulty oil sensor can pull down the alternator.
WOW and fun!....my car so I can do want I want without hesitation.

Had to drain a LOT of new oil, but did not pull filter or front sump drain. How much oil is in engine? Added 6qts and when I turn on ignition, showed Okay, but low...YUM!
Started engine and alternator is alternating!
Very happy!...wish I could send a pic from the scope. Only monitoring battery voltage, but can clearly see start at 12v, big drop for starter, then short delay until alternator putting out 14+ volts
Thanks again for your video. Now just need some coolant hoses and I'm back on the road!

Sorry for the late reply. I would suspect the battery may be weak or dead. On these vehicles, a dead battery can take out the FRM module and CAS module. If your CAS module dies, you will get a no crank condition. Feel free to email me pdxautoworksllc@gmail.com and we can exhaust contact information.

But there were still times when I couldn't measure the oil level because of the 2E7C (saying inactive). Did try to plug out the IBS, Alternator - stays same. What could be the origin of this problem?

I believe you can leave the ibs disconnected and that will stop the battery from dying. Just as you mentioned, there is a issue with the wire between the bsd and the dme. You will need to do some testing to check the wiring (visual inspection and continuity test between the dme and ibs. Good luck!

Hello, I recently was driving my 2007 bmw 335i N54 on the freeway. Was driving pretty fast going about 80-100mph. I believe I hit a pot hole and my positive battery cable came lose but went back on the terminal. I lost power for about a split second and as soon as the car regained power the over heating light came on and my car went into limp mode without any check engine light or half engine light on. I’ve replaced my water pump and thermostat together, and my water pump will not activate. I hooked up the scanner and also used MHD and the codes I got were 2E84, 2E97, 2EF7, and 2EF8. After clearing the codes I went back and the only code the popped up was 2E84. What do you believe is the culprit in this situation. I’ve done the important stuff already, checked for blown fuses, and also my batter is good also the ECU is good.

I did not have a code related to the battery sensor. You disconnect each item on the bsd circuit one at a time and when you can read your oil level you've found the faulty component. If you say you've disconnected your water pump and you were then able to read your oil level then the water pump is faulty and pulling down the bsd circuit

Only way to find out is searching through the coding parameters via NCS expert and see if you can find it. I believe it was in the junction box coding the last time I came across it but I'm not 100% sure. It's best to just replace the ibs and get the system back to original operation.

1 . Disconnect all BSD components (alternator. battery sensor, water pump) except for the oil sensor. Clear fault memory.
Ignition off/on. If fault code is stored again: oil sensor is defective and must be replaced. Repeat test.
      2. If fault code is entered again after oil sensor replacement: -) Check wiring harness (BSD BUS) and all plug-in connections for
      corrosion and shorts to ground/UBatt.
      3. If fault code no longer appears after oil sensor replacement: -) oil sensor was defective.
      4. If no fault code is stored after all components (except oil sensor, as in step 1) are disconnected: ->> The fault lies with one of the other BSD components. Now connect the water pump and clear all fault memories, ignition off/on.
