    one of the reason why i love being Japanese
    because when you hungry, you feel hungry from your stomach instead hungry from your eyes

    Awesome noodles. I’ve gotten there late and had to turn around and get there early the next day. I used to call him Soba-sama and he’d laugh and call me Wheeru-kun because of my lightweight sports type wheelchair I used to get around town. He was a kind dude who’s passion was unrivaled. I heard he’d actually have them toss broth that wasn’t right in his later years. A perfectionist till the end of one of my great memories from my almost six years in country. RIP your noodles we’re still the best I’ve ever had

    i don't understand why some people are irritated by the narrator. he's talking trash to his friend, he's a renowned chef, he knows what he's talking about. aren't you just being too sensitive?

    • @pokeken
      @pokeken Před 7 lety +8

      Alot of people find this vid annoying is because instead of talking to his friend about the taste, history, and culture of ramen, he just turned the second half of the vid into a playground "bigger dick" contest....in the end it came across as disrespectful to the food.....and this is a food blog right?

    • @enix0053
      @enix0053 Před 7 lety +1

    • @Jasopaul
      @Jasopaul Před 7 lety +5

      pokeken true, but he was trying to illustrate a part of Japanese food culture and ramen culture that is seldom found in American shops. In the us people eat a bowl in 20-30 minutes, but in japan everyone takes less than 10. It's just a part of the culture and story that he wanted to tell.

    • @enix0053
      @enix0053 Před 7 lety +4

      Bred Saint because most of the time, people don't know when he is joking around. if you get irritated, then do you think he'd intentionally do that? and if it was intentional, what would happen to his show?
      im just saying people are quick to judge to things they dont understand, and in this case, his sense of humor.

    Omori means extra portion thrown on top, mori is just regular size. Before ordering, I would have warned my foreign friend about the crazy portion of noodles on the side unless I have a reason to give him a hard time. I've been to a ramen shop run by Taisho-ken chef's student. They are also generous with extra noodles and they will pressure you to finish what you got. If you feel intimidated, you should specify how "super-sized" you want your omori to be. Japanese people are math oriented and they'll quickly measure the portion depending on your request.
