That guy that towed you in is a real hero! i hope you bought him a pint in the local pub!!
I really admire your strength and courage. Long live you and may you sail safe for as long as the clock allows 🎉
Excellent Vid James. Love watching your channel - a real sailor who records it as it is. Credit to that sailor who towed you in; he was also struggling with the conditions but stops to help you! True sailing spirit - well done to him 👍
Fabulous bonus video James, thank you!! I can remember tracking your progress back in November, I was still in Ireland then, my wife and I are in the tropics of S.E.Asia now. Anyhow, watching you go through all that weather as well. There was one moment during that passage where you had a kinda zig zag 24hrs of no wind and frustration, I can remember you logging that on Predict wind tracker. Wife says 'good job with the bread making', lol now I'm bread making....how did that happen? haha....You inspire wives to have their men make bread lol lol 😂😂😂😂😂. Kool stuff bro, safe travels
Awesome James! Thanks for sharing these "outtakes"! Loved the Thanksgiving feast! I especially liked your thought about putting on a shirt to respect/honor your mama and thinking about being able to make bread to bring to other sailors as a gift, beautiful ideas and intentions. The RALA crew and story were also a very cool addition. That approach to NZ and the docking procedure were so wild! So glad you got some help and everything turned out ok (SV Triteia still floats). Looking forward to the next one, as always, and, as always, may fair winds be with you! 🌬⛵
Thanks for checking it out John, happy that some of this footage is entertaining to those who like the extra content instead of it just sitting on a hard drive.
"Shoot, I'm gonna need a bigger plate"
Outakes is brilliant!! Putting a shirt on for your mum 😭 Loved your visit with the nearby sailors, hilarious moments.
I hope that Triteia didn't get a nasty ding when she hit that wall - it was crazy wild in there and was a relief to see you further towed to calmness. That was so awesome of the other boat to stop and help you. looking forward to seeing NZ. Why is it that the most seismically affected regions are great places to be? Could it be ley lines or something? I can look athat up.
Loved this video so much. Slainte mhath Sailor James and Happy Sails.
Constant bearing, decreasing range is always a worry when you see lights and don't know what it is. Enjoyed the extra stuff.
Thanks giving dinner looked fabulous! Great video!
That’s what I wondered in the initial video, how you got away from the worst spot in the bay with that amount of wind with those waves and wall. Thanks for the extra footage!
Oh man, I love that you and the Rala crew saw each other, what a wild happenstance!
For a hodgepodge this video was well done and very entertaining. Kudos to you and Triteia.
Love you brother, hope I get to see you one day somewhere far far away sir!
There's always a B side brother!I
I think i like this format a lot. It's at worse a nice review, at best a way to get new regular folks. IMHO.
the guy with the green boat at the end is a legend! loved the video
My God, that water shot with those over-hangs there at the beginning of the video (before your explanation snippet)....that water is unbelievable. Freakin' amazing.
I don't think of this as outtakes, more like just more content? Loved it!
Thanks for sharing your adventures. I just come across your channel and now have watched some of your trips. I enjoy your videos and commentary.
I think there might be a shortage of tattoo ink now. A true sailor. 😅.
Best of luck in your adventures Those seas go from glass out to big rolling waves. It interesting to me to see how you set and change sail configuration to keep on track. Thanks again,
Keep Safe.
Learn to be patient and not get in a hurry to make port. Sometimes it is far safer to heave to offshore for as long as it takes. Your boat is your home just be comfortable at home at sea hove to until better weather to come in to port.
Safe travels!
I also thought the same thing. Stand-off in safe deep water hove-too or in combination with a sea-anchor until conditions allow safe(r) entry.
James is a accomplished sailor and his method got him safely tied-up. Just throwing that idea as a option also.
LOL SV Rala's white light static encounter... is that an extraterrestrial Triteia?! It might be a big ocean but it's a small world.
More great content. I love Triteia, she has so much character and personality. Fair winds and following seas.
I do enjoy the raw footage. Its a more grounded perspective and makes it feel closer to actually being there along for the ride
the outtakes are worth watching in my opinion, and they are appreciated
awesome channel and amazing content, I love these solo guys doing videos , about actual sailing, maintenance and the actual life of a skipper/adventurer from day to day , taking in all aspects of life onboard a small sailing vessel. Videos from people who understand and can explain how and what they are doing, the other few channels are:' how to sail oceans ', 'no bullshit just sailing' , and 'adventures of the an Seadog' , all of them are amazing and very informative .
Excellent extra content. Glad you showed this...
I am inspired beyond belief at the persistence and courage that both you and Holly have. I want to go sailing more now than ever before. Good work and fair winds on your travels.
Brilliant execution of single handed docking in fairly gnarly conditions .
Nice one,some strange goings on!!!
BUT u got there, here’s to the next adventure 🎉
Respect ✊
Great bits, James. Keep em coming!
A great trip, well done!
Greetings from Birkenhead Uk. Stay safe James xxx
I did like it. I was finally able to read what that paddle thing said & look up what it was. I wasnt going to ask. That has to be one of the best sunsets ever. Thanks!
Really enjoyed the takeouts. Thanks for sharing!
Right on. I really enjoy these.
Hey, This was a very nice video. Even though you don’t have transmitting AIS, for a long time I made passages before AIS, GPS, Radar, internet/wind and weather apps, solar panels etc. If you couldn’t see it, it didn’t exist. Your weather predictions was primarily your barometer and the occasional very broadly painted scratchy staticky, SSB hi seas report recording. Yeah man, I was the first in line to buy this stuff as it came out. Magic and lifesaving. You are doing really well!! So happy for you. You are a cool character. Enjoy New Zealand!
Great out takes! Great job managing the situation.
Incredible Video footage!! Truly Authentic & excellent content!!
I don't know James. You got bigger nads than I do. There is no way I would have sailed with a jerry-rigged tiller, a duct taped wind vane, and non-functioning engine. I thought you'd be a little gun shy after a disabled rudder in the middle of the Pacific. You and Wind Hippie Sailing make me wonder sometimes but I appreciate your ingenuity and fortitude. Be safe.
My tiller wasn’t Jerry rigged, and if you are too scared to fix stuff at sea make sure you stay close to shore 👍🏻
Keep up the hard work. Thanks for letting us live life to the fullest by watching your adventures. ;)
Love the out takes
James I would love a Q. &A with you and your brother David.
Inspirational James. I admire your pluck and determination no matter what is thrown at you. Like the 'shirt for your Mom'.
Wind and Waves. No music. Best video!
Great stuff keeping it real
This is the sort of videos I like man. Random stuff. Videos don't always have to have a storyline....ya know?
Jack of all trades, master of one. You are self reliant and very intelligent.
Very good video.. Thanks.
I haven't seen all your videos buddy but what I've seen have been cool pal keep doing what you are I wish I could do it. Be safe pal and enjoy the experience 👍
hey man ill watch pretty much anything you put out
Big up James! 🙏❤💪
Mto belli i tuoi video👍👍👍👏👏👏. Un saluto dall'Italia. Giovanni
James, do you have a video on the story behind your tattoos? Often people have cool stories about why they got what they did, where they were in life at the time, etc. The detail on the sails on your back is incredible. Fair winds!
I have been asked for a while to make a video about my tattoos and will probably try and put one together in the near future 👍🏻
That would be a great episode. It would be cool if you have room left for traditional Maori ink.
A well put together vid
Ops, fat fingers. Yes enjoyed that footage very much. Very sorry about NZ coast guard. Very poor on their behalf. I'll look forward to seeing the next vlog. Until then, safe travels. Keep up the good work 👍🏿. SV Kiwi Lady Opua Bay of islands New Zealand 👍🏿
Scary weather
James I guess it's worth all the stress
The first time I showed my American husband the New Zealand navy docked at Davenport...He thought I was kidding. 🤔😂😂😂😂
What's the highest waves encountered on your journey?
Talking of tug fees, besides food clothes and neccesaties, what has been the total of out of pocket expenses on your journey to date..
On the 17th of next month, i'm about to go living full time on mine.
Planning on a total refit. I've been buying some gorgeous beech furniture. A new cooker with 2 hobs and an oven on gimballs. 4 large butane and propane bottles, but 1 has been stolen. Quite a lot has been stolen to date. Now have 3 cameras and a high voltage electric fence generator pumping out 500 volts plus.
Need solar panels, and are wind vanes accurate in guiding your boat?
Do you know of any foams that can be injected into ones hull that will almost stop water from entering.
Just bought a goose down quilt for the cold.
My first year will be experiencing all the islands to the west of scotland. The views are stunning. I paint, so I expect them to be inspiring.
Will you be experiencing the med or the Uk. Norway is also worth a visit. thanks, James.
What a great son to honor your mother with wearing your shirt
Yo! You are the most realistic sailor comparted to these other channels where everything is rosy. Learning so much from you!
The Amusement you obtain through being able to be on the sea,can never be gotten Brother.I wish your good health and strength to overcome adversities.Take lots of love from Bangladesh❤️🧡
You are one inspiring person, safe travels, oh and great videos btw
Well ✔️ done
Great tow …👍
We love the outtakes! Is that an olive branch on the front of your left shoulder?
Just wow! Love your videos man!
Yeah, I think it's fairly universal. Shirts have to be worn at the table. :)
I agree Gorilla Waterproof is the very best!
I'll take anything you've got. A day hanging out with you beats any day in Baton Rouge!
Im dealing with a broken shoulder but you motivate me to fix my lower unit on my Yamaha Outboard! Its just a small oil leak around my water pump (I Think) but once finished it will put me back on the Redfish and Speckled Trout in the coastal marsh.
Peace to you and as always I'm here to serve duty on your Sail
I am sure there was a good reason but what didn't the launch drop you off on the inside of that Marina pier then you would be in a very peaceful spot rather than the crazy wall.?
Because the wind would have blown me off the dock and onto the moored boats in the marina, we both agreed the outside was the best option
can you tell me who built the fiberglass top for the top of your cabin, with the tinted windows that open. that is so much better than a plastic cover. Thank you!

hey so were you in New Zealand during the cyclone? i was visiting relatives in Wellington when it hit. Hopefully you had already moved south be then. love these videos. seriously, they are great. keep it up.
Yes I rode it out at Opua Marina, I shot an episode that will be coming out
Ты молодец!
It really is a small world
💙💙💙💙
Were you not allowed to tie up to the inside (leward) of the Q Dock?
Yes but the high winds would have blown me off the dock and into the moored boats of the marina so we both decided the weather side made the most sense
Wow, yeah i only have an AIS receiver - and funnily enough radar - but no transponder. Do you have a radar reflector though? Great video again, mate!
Is it only me that’s finds it disturbing that yachts with ais transponders assume ALL other yachts will also be transmitting….
Oh so this happened last November? You could be on the other side of earth by now real time. BTW potatoes NEED lots of butter! and some bacon, maybe a little sour cream....
I am not being picky but I would make a overhauls before your next passage for your own safety I mean the most important stuff
I'm jealous
Bro, if your in Tauranga, my family and I would love to cook a meal for you
Duct tape my favourite go to fix - count your blessings - love it.. Rala what a story.. -glad you got a tow in - what a treat. Hey James -please speak to me about DAN Insurance - I have had it for many years - is it ok to use going into countires as your insurance. Cheers
Thanksgiving dinner tonight ? When was this recorded ? Was only posted 2 hours ago

Meal fit for a king
James what is American coffee n gravy🤷♂️
We were talking about Biscuits and Gravy (in the UK and NZ Biscuits are cookies)
There’s no such thing as “an unwise amount of butter” my dear
Duct tape and baling wire. Never leave home without it!
I watched right from the beginning I guess it's just me sorry but you got your engine repair
The other side is smooth ,no go for this??
Because since I was engineless we need the wind to blow me onto the dock, on the other side it would have blow me away from the dock and onto moored boats in the marina
Looks like you just found your true soulmate. Hope ❤
To me this is about escaping the maddening crowd. And although I am past my prime. It’s about peace and quiet away from the lunatic asylum that has become my country. Painting and selling my art. Learning new skills and enjoying life completely independently from the government and corruption.
I don’t know the young lady seemed very excited about this interesting man with a particularly kind of mental aptitude of calm in a storm. Guys like u are rare these days 👍
The first spot, was absolutely not an safe spot , I don't know what kind and how many anchors you have, but that wall will never be an option for me either
👍 I'm suspicious of people who don't like butter 🙂
The deep heaving sigh I have when the opening title shot, music, and sound of water splashing against the side of Tritea. I am too old and to broken to go on such adventures, but through you my dreams are of rolling waves, salted air, and beautiful views. Thank you for sharing this with us. My heart is stowed aboard your her.
