    I bought my two piece suit from BKS in 1998, measured by Brian. 21 years later, in 2019, and the suit was still like new, but I was no longer the same shape! Another visit to BKS, and alterations made following yet more personal service from Brian. This is an outstanding company, producing garments which are second to non, and an example to the rest of the industry.

      Yes they are able to alter suit, it costs a fortune, I know! The leather suits will last forever with care but seem to have fallen out of fashion, even the police have gone textile. I’ll stick with the suits I have until I hang up the keys, man of leisure. I also have Streetguard heavy and light suits, full leathers in 30C+ is not pleasant.

    The motorcycle industry needs more people like this gentleman who truly care about the men and women who ride. I’m always reinforcing my own off-the-shelf motorcycle clothes with more armor. Bought a pair of Kevlar leggings and did an abrasion test against denim on a repeatable rig, the outcome was quite disappointed with both sanding through at roughly the same time.

    I had a new BKS M2M leather suit in '96 and used it for over 20 years for commuting, European touring and Sunday afternoon rides. It must have shrunk a little around the waist (because I'm sure I didn't grow!!!!!) so had a new BKS M2M leather suit in 2018. Again, it's been used for all my riding, and I've never found it to be uncomfortable, even in some long days in extreme weather. BKS M2M is the ultimate motorcycle kit and every rider should consider buying their kit.

    Fascinating story, passion and quality craftsmanship. You will never beat hand made bespoke kit, my Altberg boots are a testament to that 10 years on. Sadly it does highlight just how important your brand is and arguably the most valuable asset you can have. For many people who don't know the background they might not realise that the suit they pick up from J&S has nothing to do with the far superior product they would get from made to measure yet they see the name and it could influence them either way based on their experience of either product.

    I have had 3 suits made by Brian and his team. I still have my 15 year old two-piece road suit (unaltered because I look after myself). Sadly the other 2 one-piece suits have both been cut off me but that's racing for ya. No doubt my injuries would have been far worse without BKS quality. I have spent a lot of money but I have had the best protection. The bonus is wearing a suit that properly fits; they really do feel amazing, both on and off the bike.

    As it stands Brian (Sansom) and I share the same clothing measurements and he had on offer a prototype textile suit made for him on sale😊.

    Will let u know of my experience when I get a chance to wear it.
    Thanks again for providing this information on bike social and bringing out the cream of the crop for advanced motorcycle touring and sport protection clothing .
    Great interview and awesome well spoken guest, he (Brian) took personal care of me through this process and i was impressed with service.

      Just learn the safety standards (22.05/22.06, CE 1/2 pads, L1/2 boots, A/AA/AAA clothing etc.) it's not difficult to learn. It is the law that every piece of clothing is labelled. If it isn't, walk away. Most textiles are AA rated and L2 pads are easy to fit if not already there.

    This was very informative and appreciated. One trend that is becoming wide spread is UHMWPE materials used in protective garments. What I would like to know about UHMWPE is how does it perform and what does it do to the skin when heat exceeds its melting point as I've heard is possible when sliding down pavement. Abrasion is fine but if the material melts users need to know what happens to them.

    • @bksmadetomeasure4964
      @bksmadetomeasure4964 Před 2 lety +3

      Thanks for the comment. Layering is important in the phyics. Our textile suit has several layers of lightweight fabrics underneath the outer shell and if you wear 'skins type base layers' the risk of any melting at skin level is removed. The shearing forces and buffering across these layers and how our suit works in a crash seems to prevent this from happening. Message me at the office and I'll show you some independent testing results from other sourse too. bksleather.co.uk/textile

      @@bksmadetomeasure4964 Thank you for your reply; makes good sense. Also, I have seen base layers made using 65% UHMWPE for the purpose of wearing under regular "street" close made of say cotton. I was wondering if given that cotton will disintegrate right away leaving only the UHMWPE base layer for abrasion protection and will it melt? I mean - UHMWPE is very comfortable, cool, and flows air well so could be ideal if it doesn't melt when put to use.

      Thanks for commenting Roland. These suits take up to 100 hours to make and whilst £2500 is no small sum the investment hopefully pays for itself when we hear over and over how much has been spent on kit by clients.....before finally reaching us.

    Great suits, I have two. It is actually worth getting one of these suits as they will last and you don’t have to replace - plus if you have invested a significant sum of money in a suit you have every incentive to stay that weight 😀 I didn’t need the second suit but it was a super upgrade and really comfortable

    Very interesting. I didnt realise the original BKS had kept going in made to measure. I always thought they de-branded themselves with the Frank Thomas deal as we all knew FT meant made in China crap.

    • @bksmadetomeasure4964
      @bksmadetomeasure4964 Před 2 lety +2

      It was always meant to be a joint project going forward with my BKS always continuing MTM (which it did of course). The plan of action ended when FT went into administration and a management buy-back failed taking it out of our hands. I know how confusing it must look to those buying BKS elsewhere but I'm happy to explain - call us.

    I’ve been lucky enough to have a set of custom BKS 2 piece leathers for 15 years now and more recently a custom set of textiles and 2 piece leathers from hideout leathers. Both companies are really nice to deal with but the BKS leathers just fit nicer and feel more substantial.

    My BKS suit is off the peg, not made to measure, and overall I'm very happy with it, however, at the second time of wearing it the zip connecting the trousers to the jacket failed and some stitching came undone.
    BKS carried out repairs under warranty without quibble and fitted a chunkier, heavy-duty connecting zip as per my request.
    The takeaway from this is that the leathers are mostly well made but that isn't a guarantee that they won't fail in some areas but BKS are great to deal with when things do fail.

    • @bennettsbikesocial
      @bennettsbikesocial  Před 10 měsíci

      It's very important to know that BKS off-the-peg leathers have nothing to do with BKS Made-to-Measure. They are two entirely different companies (Brian talks about this in the video)
