    for the square planar example. how do you know if its cis- or trans- configuration or is there a resonance structure equivalent for complex ions?
    thank you.

    The whole charge out the bracket [Cr(nh3)⁶]+3 (e.g+3 ) is it oxidation state

    For the first example how do you know that the charge on the Cr is 3+ ?

    • @ChemistryTuition
      @ChemistryTuition  Před 4 lety +1

      Ammonia is a neutral ligand as it is a molecule. Therefore the charge of the complex ion +3 must be solely due to Cr.

    How is the oxidation number of co +3 because cl is -2 in bracket all together then if you + 1 you get -1 ???

    • @ChemistryTuition
      @ChemistryTuition  Před 9 lety +1

      +Takkiya Mastoor If this is for the en complex, then the en ligand is neutral. Each Cl- ligand is -1, we have two so that addd up to -2. The overall charge of the comples ion is +1, so Co must be +3, since +3-2=+1

    Why is pt +2

    • @ChemistryTuition
      @ChemistryTuition  Před 5 lety +2

      The overall complex is neutral, each NH3 ligand is neutral, the two chlorides each have a charge of -1, so overall -2. Therefore Pt must be +2.
