I remember watching it, their first hit, it was one of those rare occasions when you know something special is happening, something new and fresh. Very talented.
I remember watching it that night. The Specials and The Selecter were also on. It was the talk of the playground the following day - Two Tone had arrived!
I saw them a few years ago in Stuttgart, south Germany, and Graham McPherson said to the audience after the first applause „It‘s so good to be back in México!“
Saw them first on "Tiswas", Saturday morning kids show in the UK at . "One Step Beyond"......I have never left them. 13/14 years old.............OH YES.
After watching Madness performing OSB on TOTP every one of my mates wanted to be Chas Smash at school the next day "Ska had come to town" What a great memory thanks uploader 😊👍
I'm a black guy heavy in roots reggae and lovers rock ,I listen and watch the dance to madness one step beyond ,so clever so british and it makes me smile every time
@@tonyivey5399 you’ve lived Tony there was a vibe back then fairground music mixed with ska and imagination and those 7 guys gave prince buster a lot of respect as Suggs once said to me there wouldn’t be no madness if it weren’t for him and all those classic blue beat tunes and more I’m glad I lived it ✊✊✊✊✊
This is excellent, although suggs gets the credit for being the main singer, the band is not the same without Chas smash, especially in their early days. Chas is the main nutty dancer. Those earlier gigs and concerts wouldn't be the same without his nutty dancing (and chanting) they were brilliant in late 1979 and also in 1980. Truly, one of the best bands ever. (Along with the Specials)
They (public, crowd) took some time to wake up to Madness back then, they didn’t realise what the lads were all about. It was ‘The Prince’ in 79’ that woke up this little 9 yr old, I was obsessed ever since 👌🏻🇬🇧 ‘One step beyond’ when it first came on Top of the Pops done my old Dads head in, he made me turn it down, or the Tv was getting switched off 😂
I still say they were all mad as a box of frogs (well, they do call themselves 'Madness'), but absolutely brilliant too, and I wouldn't want it any other way.
One of the greatest tunes of a decade and the audience can't be bothered.
From a much earlier decade than this show, though. (It's a cover)
SKA MUSIC IS THE BEST! Everyone dancing to their own rhythm !!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
The completely uninterested reaction of the audience is priceless.
They don't get this then new music phononem. I was 11yrs old, I absolutely loved them. Great fun music.😀😀😀😀
@@carolecochrane8173 Wow! Thanks for sharing that. I was born in 1968. It was a different time.
compare to czcams.com/video/rt6Qhhytml8/video.html
My thoughts exactly where did they get them from
Ahead of their time
The only band I ever saw who didn't need drugs
Их и так не хило прёт 👍😜
Only lots of echo
Haaaaaaaaaaa!
You or them?
@@alexthomson7465 them I don't do drugs 😂

2nd hit? The Prince was definitely first.
@@stewartheywood7239 Yes, he probably doesn't realise that Prince Buster did One step beyond in the 60's first either. It is hardley new and fresh.
it was a great time. fresh on the heels of punk. so much change and optimism.
I remember watching it that night. The Specials and The Selecter were also on. It was the talk of the playground the following day - Two Tone had arrived!
Fenomenal,ya hace rato de esto.
um sorry out of context but im just wondering what that red thing up on their head called? thnks.

Suddenly I feel quite old. Remember watching this performance as a 9 year old kid. Great memories
This madness is better than the later madness.
Great then and great now.
Saw them first on "Tiswas", Saturday morning kids show in the UK at . "One Step Beyond"......I have never left them. 13/14 years old.............OH YES.
❤ madness takes me back to my teens brilliant amazing group love em still looking fit suggs
For me 79 was the year for good music. 79 till 83 the best.
Totally agree.
Best comment on here.
I,ve always said that. 79-83
that nutty dance is just out there - love it
3xelente música me encanta......👏👏👏👍
Hi, Richie, England style find, found,. Thank's ...!
I've never seen this version, absolutely brilliant and the TOTP producers must have hated it! 😂😂😂
Haha yeah, I feel like this might have been the first time TOTP banned them.
La audiencia aún no estaba preparada para esta música "del futuro"...
13 years ols in 1979 heard Madness for the first time still only band for me 👍
🤪🤪🤪
Saw them again in about 2018 and still the best! Thought el thommo was going to have a heart attack but he kept going! Amazing!
Best documentary Camden story crew amazing
I used to dance like that even before madness ,,then went onto hip hop ,,now I'm on a list for a hip op 🥴

Canterbury 79. Fucking awesome...I was a kid.x
I wish I was a teen in England to witness madness and the Ska and punk bands.... brilliant tune !
Syncopation, instrumentation, not overdone, best uplifting momentum.

Me too man ! I am 59 now..
Gwan Lance my son, let's ave it! No age too great to enjoy this masterpiece to the full!
Love this song
Just sublime..
Love madness.xx
Brilliant
hillarious that they walk off around the set, not caring that it obvious its not live
Bloody Brilliant.
One step high!
That Chas Smash has got some serious moves..
I used to practice the dance in my bedroom, the album cover had all the moves on the back, never quite looked as cool as Cathal Smyth but I was only 8
1 month shy of 40 years old...where did that time go and can I have it all back!
Tell me about it, me 1971. 40 flew.
One step beyond!!
The audience were not aware that they were in the presence of greatness 🤦♀
Brilliantly 'raw'. One of the best bands live!. Nuff said.
First record I ever brought love it❤ even named my son after one of the members who is no longer in the group ❤
Remember this going out!
Моя молодость Madness....
И моя))) До сих пор обожаю. Привет из СПб!
La mejor rola para abrir mi reventón que comience la fiesta
Andamos como chapulines
Great fun.
Good.
2023 and still hear this 😅👍🏻
I like the way the saxophone played on after it was removed from the mouth. 😉
Still love them
So damn great
Ska was fun !
ONE... STEP... BEYOND!!!!!
En ese año me case y estaba de estreno está genial banda
These are from another planet
Los Fabulosos Cadillacs 💪🏼😁
Remember in back the the future 2 when Michael J Fox was on stage and started to play a riff.......this gives me that same feeling.
ska ska my childhood never be another one step beyond ...
COOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Once again The Audience is in a Coma...Madness too cool for TOTP
It was a bit of a comedy act though wasn't it? If they'd have looked more serious the audience might have taken them seriously.
💯
Un paso adelante Venezuela.
Good old TOTP where everything is mimed and nothing is plugged in!!!
J’ai dansé la dessus 😂😂😂😂🎉❤
J adore ❤❤❤
The audience must’ve gotten a strong dose of lithium
Chas Smash!
after my punk period i heard this and became ska
RIP Prince Buster
Naturally fun
Gotta love SAX 👀🍿
The audience are on sedatives!
Especially for such a rocking tune!

a muy buena rola aya por los 80s
Quality 👍
They where taking the piss because top of the pops insisted on them using a prerecorded track, one of the many things you learn from watching NMTBC
Cuando me ponía alegre en 1981 con unas gracielas chulada todo pa delante nada hacia tras
I was seven when this happened... mind you though I was 21 when the Prodigy happened...love dove's anyone...
Jesus - forty-four years ago. FORTY FOUR!!!!
45 now, mate.
They left Woody alone in the scenario...
The only track missing from The Blues Brothers.
Madness IS Primarsy in Non-Jamaican Ska!
An easy day out for Suggs !
Yep, rare for a singer not to sing on TOTP!
Legends 🇦🇺
Crushing out on this group since 1979
➕🎤😎
El público terribles zombis
The crowd are boring. How can you not dance to this?!
The crowd ... Idiots ?
