  • Join us on an epic 2000 km road trip from Phuket/Thailand to Penang/Malaysia in our 40 year old Mercedes-Benz 280 TE (W123). Despite of some breakdowns and problems there were lots of highlights like Railay Beach/Krabi, Ko Lanta, Ko Lipe, Georgetown/Penang, Hat Yai, Songkhla and Nakhon Si Thammarat.
We will show you what documents are necessary to cross the border from Thailand to Malaysia with a Thai registered car and how the process at the border looks like at Wang Prachan border checkpoint and Sadao border checkpoint.

Love your videos on this old Benz. I have made two long trips in my 1985 500SEC since purchasing it last July. One from North Carolina to NY and back. The other from NC to Florida and back. The only issue was when I hit NY my shocks hated the battered roads and so I had them replaced. Turns out the shocks were original! Yikes. Otherwise the original owner did all needed maintenance so the SEC is quite nice. It doesn't need much.
I will be in Thailand mid August to early September and would love to see your car.

I would love to show you me Benz. But I won't be in Phuket in summer unfortunately. That's my time for activities in Europe.

Great video of your trip and of your W123. If you drive down south again into Malaysia, you can consider Taiping, Ipoh, Kampar (pass by), Tapah and Cameron Highlands! Am suggesting these places as you prefer to drive along the old highway. Keep up the good work with your videos! Vielen dank.

well from penang (northern) you can drive up all the way to singapore even, let say if you wish to do so you can stop over ipoh(Lonely Planet listed Ipoh as one of the 10 best Asian town in 2016)-cameron highlands-kuala lumpur(capital)-malacca(unesco world heritage site, many taxis still using 114/115/123)-johor baru-singapore
also this is freeway route if you use b roads theres a lot more place for over night stop over!,you probably need 1-2 weeks with stop over really.

why wouldn't you carry out a simple service /pre check before setting off? this would have prevented almost all of the issues you faced
    lovely car anyway

I love Singapore, but I'm not sure if they allow Thai registered cars to drive. Do you know what the regulations look like?

@@CubeofCars yep they allow thai registered cars in. I've seen thai registered vehicles in Singapore before but I believe you need to apply to enter?
