The SE-R trim remained for a number of years and when the 5th generation Sentra was equipped with the unforgettable SE_R Spec V trim, this car solidified its place in the car scene. The B16 Sentra Spec V is one of the most underrated cars of all-time.
    14 second 1/4 mile car getting 32 plus miles per gallon on the highway. Lightweight has 4 doors and plenty of us have Beaten WRXs, Mazda’s, Civic SI’s etc either stock or full bolt ons with a tune. I ran a 2015 Civic SI last week and walked him. Saw him yesterday at the gas station. He said, dude that car is bad ass.

      @slowspecv69 Před 2 lety +4

      Fuckin right they’re underrated. Love my 2011. Funny how MotorTrend when testing the 8th gen si vs this the spec v was quicker to 60 by a tenth then looses 2 tenths by the quarter mile. I now know that’s complete horse shit cuz they’re stupidly even up top, with a very very tiny edge to the spec, but down low the spec is gone, anything under a 60 roll it’s getting left. No 8000rpm powerband is gonna make up for a 41 torque deficit.

    Just to clarify, this is a GREAT car. Its literally a civic SI WITHOUT the honda tax. It (2007+) has 200hp, LSD, insane handling, NO stability control, and you can modify it to the moon and back. Mine has a cold air intake, headers, catback exhaust, pulley, and a tune. Plus coilovers, a tiny bit of weight reduction, & summer tires. The car is a fucking beast, and its the epitome of sleeper car. My car looks almost the same as a base model sentra, aside from the wheels and mean sounding exhaust (although people assume its just a base model with a broken muffler and fancy wheels).
    I routinely walk "faster" cars like wrx's and 350z's. Not just sometimes, but consistently. I haven't been to a dyno, but I know I'm over 250 CRANK. This car responds so well to mods its insane. My best 0-60 is 5.5 and 14 flat quarter mile. Pulls over a G in corners too. Still have plenty more mods I can do also. The best part? This car was so stupidly cheap, only a tiny bit more than a regular shitbox sentra and literally a fraction of the price of a civic SI. Its pretty reliable and simple to fix as well. This car is criminally underrated.

      This is what I’ve been saying for years, finally bought a 2011, fucking love it. And was 5200 cad were a si from 2011 would prob be at least 9 grand. And the performance is better on sentras, 3 more hp and more importantly like 39 more torque. And you don’t need to rev it to 20 million rpm to get anything from the motor. Don’t understand why people aren’t buying these, but it got me a great car for cheap so I can’t complain.

    B14 SER = carries sr20 engine, offered in coupe and sedan (SE), sleeper
    B15 Spec V = 6spd lsd, 180 torque, fat powerband, brembos, genuine Nismo parts, incredible handling after few mods (autocross demon)

    I appreciate the love being shown especially for the B15 Sentra, buddy of mine had an early Spec V with the good front end back when they were still new... good times with that car. BUT I'm going to have to call this video a fail because the elephant in the room was not addressed: precats, butterfly screws, and exhaust manifolds. He went through quite a few QR25de's due to Nissan's design flaw. Once he put an aftermarket header on the problems stopped. Thankfully they were all done on Nissan's dime.

    I had one of these. A 2002 spec V. The early years had some pretty detrimental issues with precats and butterfly screws. An after market header with no precat was recommended because bits of the catalyst was known to break and be sucked into the engine and score the cylinders. The butterfly screws in the intake manifold would work themselves lose and fall into the engine and score the cylinders. You had to put locktite on them to prevent this. This was fixed I think in 2004+. There were people swapping SR20det's and VQ35DE (Altima) into these. Then there is the mighty turbo VQ35 build as well.

      I had a 2003 Spec V. Had 2 blown engines replaced under warranty because of pre-cat issues and butterfly screw. Had to take dealer to court the first time because the service manager said that I must have taken something and punched out the material in the pre-cat to get more HP. I won my lawsuit and they replaced the engine. 10 months later the replacement pre-cat failed (even with heat shield around it) and sucked honeycomb material into the engine. Butterfly screw also got sucked into engine. 3rd gear synchro also went out. Dealer replaced the engine and fixed the synchro. They also put on a Nismo exhaust for free because of the inconvenience. Soon as I got the 2nd replacement engine, I immediately put on an aftermarket header that didn’t have a pre-cat. Butterfly screws were also locktited. Never had an issue after that. It was a fun and torquey car once the issues got sorted out. I loved how it sounded when the VVT kicked in.

    Had a 08 Spec V and I have to admit it was the most fun car I've owned. I had a 90 240SX and a 98 Talon TSI and the Spec was by far the most fun. It was also really cool when people would ask questions not even realizing it was just a Sentra. The interior was pretty nice for it being a car from the bankruptcy era of almost everyone, but what sold me the most was how reliable the second gen QR was. I can't tell you how many top speed runs, redline shifts or hard take offs I had in that thing and it never blinked. With bolt ons it was pretty awesome to see 200-240HP at the wheels too. The only real downside is finding someone that knows how to tune them and certain years of the B14 were untunable unless you swapped out ECMs.

    A little known fact. Since the sentra with the 6spd manual in the spec v is the same transmission with a different bell housing, you can swap the sentra trans into the 07+ Altima V6 and 6th gen maxima that came with an open diff in the manual. You just need to swap the bell housing from the V6 Altima trans onto the sentra trans, and now you have lsd in your Altima or maxima.

    Had an 07 white 6th gen spec-v, got it with about 89k mile for ~$13k, drove it for 5ish years and took the mileage to 120k.
    Biggest issues with the car:
    1. The exhaust manifold was a 4-2-1, and had two catalytic converters. Two large cats sitting just between the 4 and 1 sections on each side. What's the fuss? Well those big ol cats weighed a lot and would eventually crack the welds on the manifold, making the car fail an emissions test and sound straight piped. After i replaced the cracked OEM manifold with yet another OEM manifold which also eventually cracked, i just put on a megan racing catless manifold and fixed that PITA.
    2. The knock sensor on these cars was WAY too sensitive and would constantly read false knock events, which would cause the ECU to pull timing. Annoying enough as is, but the way the ECU would pull timing wasn't just a flat continuous timing retard, it was like a sporadic juttery timing retard that would come in and go, giving you the impression that you're running out of gas. Maybe just my car but it SUCKED.
    3. The shifter on this car felt like a plastic Fischer Price clunky piece of CRAP and i hated it.
    Great car.
