Enjoyed the video and especially the shot of Duluth in the background on a clear night. If I had gone to Duluth when in the Coast Guard in 1968 thru 1972., I might still be there.

I miss Duluth! I used to sit in the living room at home and watch the ships going in and out of the harbor. I absolutely loved it at night. I lived there from 1968-1973. Great city to live in too!

Great video! Capturing good night footage in the shipping canal is a challenge. (It's gotten worse this year as they replaced the bridge lighting with dimmer LEDs that no longer illuminate the ships passing underneath.) If you don't mind sharing, I'm curious what camera and lens combination you were using for this footage. Clearly a nice wide angle lens with a wide aperture.

If and when you may ever get a chance to get up close to a 1000 foot ship, then you will realize just how massive they are. I did about 30 years ago, and it is unreal.

I guarantee it will not be your last visit!! We made the 12 hour trip from Southern Illinois in August and enjoyed it so much that we did it again in mid December. Duluth has so much to offer in all seasons from the warm days of summer with trips up the North Shore to waterfalls, cliffs and lighthouses to Bentleyville, frozen waterfalls and snow shoeing and skiing in December, and all of the time, except late January to March you have those magnificent Freighters and the engineering marvel that is the Lift Bridge. Next trip will be a Fall Colors trip!

Tom You’re absolutely correct! I’ve been back twice in the fall and am hooked. I’ve seen a lot of shots from local photogs of the spring which looks neat too when the trees are budding. And winter... whoa. I’ve been up there once during the winter of Feb 2016 and can’t wait to return. The area really is that spectacular!

Nice video. It would be interesting to know the outbound destination of the ships.
