The mountain of gold refers to crude oil

I find that very hard to believe because we've been using oil for over 100 years yet the Euphrates has not dried up yet to reveal "a mountain of gold." I'm no scholar and I know that there could be different interpretations for hadith. Oil being the mountain of gold doesn't seem to match. Also, if I'm not mistaken, oil was first found in the Arabian peninsula. And Allah knows best about all things.
