    In a setting where you’re constantly zooming in and out, just set your aperture to the slowest minimum aperture (6.3 in the case). That way your exposure doesn’t change regardless of what focal length you choose.

    Noticed the 18-400 is really an 18-200. Probably because of focus breathing but it doesn’t give you a full 400. Will be nice to see sample pictures of both lenses at 400mm and see the difference in field of view.

    Late to the game but while I use the Nikon 200-500mm for sports, I took the 18-400mm to Disney and never had to change lenses except for anything indoor. Fantastic walk around lens! However for outdoor sports the wide end comes in really handy, especially for baseball.

    I shot a lot of college and minor league ball with the 100-400 last year. Only sold it to help fund my 300 2.8 as I stated covering Friday nights. It was probably the sharpest lens I've had. I loved the images from it. Super fast focus acquisition with a Canon 7Dii. It was a perfect lens for hiking/parks when I wanted to capture the wildlife.
    One point to note: the 18-400 is only for crop bodies (Tamron's Di II is for crop sensor cameras, Di III for Sony mount.)

    I will be upgrading to a Z6II, will this work on a Z? I’m looking at the 70-200, but if I could save some money, I’m all for it.

    Damn making me regret buying the canon. I wanted to get into sports photography and seems like canon doesn’t have any cheap ranges just to break in and learn.

  • @zamirloshi4127

    Great video! I used to own a 16-200mm f3.5-6.3 but sold it after just one indoor badminton game as it of course does not really work for that.
    But I was interested in the Canon 100-400mm for a while now and I am now considering getting the Tamron version instead as it is about have the price and only one stop darker at 400mm. Do you think one stop less light is worth the savings? I shoot semi-professionally and I am planning on using it at outdoor soccer games and go kart races.

    • @billieweiss7681
      @billieweiss7681  Před 3 lety +1

      I do think it's worth the savings! What kind of camera body are you using? Most bodies now perform so well at higher ISO's, that that one stop won't really kill you for low light environments. Obviously the more stops you can save, the better, but if you're looking to save a bit of cash, I think this will do great! Plus the 20% discount :)

      @zamirloshi4127 Před 3 lety +1

      @@billieweiss7681 Thanks for the reply. I am currently using two Canon 7D mk1 and I can’t push the ISO higher than 800 without a massive amount of noise. 😊 I plan to upgrade the cameras to full frame first and then buy a 400mm to get the crop-sensor reach back. But I think I am going for the Tamron version. Do you know how the lens performs in sharpness compared to a Nikon or Canon lens? Because I had some bad experiences with Tamron lenses in the past.

    • @billieweiss7681
      @billieweiss7681  Před 3 lety

      @@zamirloshi4127 I see! Would be great to upgrade from the 7d :) The Tamron lens is for sure sharp! It will not be as sharp or as fast to focus as the high end Nikon/Canon lenses, but for the price point, it felt very sharp to me. I think you would be very happy with it as a semi-pro!

    • @billieweiss7681
      @billieweiss7681  Před 3 lety

      Good question! In my opinion, it works well, but not outstanding, if that makes sense. For the price point, it definitely does a good job with vibration reduction, but won't out perform a pricier lens in that regard.

      A 80-200/2.8 or 200/2.8. Gyms are dark and most don’t allow flash. With the busy background of a gym have a fast lens can help to blur out the background.
