Another excellent and comprehensive long-term review. Thanks TP! You just can't get the Ryzen powered Swift in the UK, which is annoying. I suppose the UK is a small market compared to large SE Asia countries

Hello Techno Panda. I'm interested in this laptop. Should I go for the Ryzen 7 4700 or 5700 or intel i7 version instead?
Hi, I experience a bad problem with the R30P version of this laptop (16GB of RAM).
From the start of scratch, when I entered in sleep mode, PC crashes (or restarts sometimes)
When enabling WSL2 for example, this has a 100% chance to happen when enter to sleep mode and wait for few minutes.
This can be solved (at least) by switching off virtualization techs in the BIOS (3rd section, 2 switches to put to off).
But as I use WSL2 and other apps that use VT, this is very annoying.
Tried to update BIOS (v1.08), clean install W10. On other laptops using this CPU (yes, it can happen on HPs, Lenovos ones), this was solved by updating the BIOS.
Also I had the motherboard get replaced by the shop where I bought it. Nothing changes !

For soldered RAM, it's not Acer's fault. It's the nature of LPDDR4 RAM, LP=low power for battery savings. I wish 16gb ram wasn't so expensive.
Bro can you review the lenovo ideapad gaming 3 ryzen 7 4600h with 1650 ti which in india comes under 1000 dollars. It has the greatest spec list I've seen for this price.
This laptop is a beast and ultra-portable. It is so fast. display is not dim and have very good colors. The keyboard is clicky and responsive and light to the hand when typing. The trackpad is smooth and responsive. My complaint is only the speakers which has low volume and hard to hear. It can be managed with a headphone or external speaker. This is the best mid-range laptop. I upgraded Windows 10 to Windows 11 but found usability of Windows 11 so hard, so I dual booted it with Ubuntu 20.04 GNU Linux. I am using the LXQT desktop environment with my bash scripts for my software web testing work.
I saw a video where there was an extra RAM slot behind that big metal rectangle, are you sure there isn't one? Might be a different model though

I've had the envy for a bit now, and honestly, it's colours are quite beautiful, obviously being a 98% on the sRGB scale. It's viewing angles are sometimes not so good, but only in harsh circumstances, like angled at the sun. I have no experience with the flex 5, but from personal experience, the envy is definitely one to look at.

Build quality is pretty good. If you handle it with care, it should last for 4-5 years. Ryzen 5 5500u with 512 SSD will give you very good performance.

Hmm... I don't know when Ryzen 7 5700 model will arrive, especially considering the current silicon shortage. If you really need a laptop, I would recommend getting the Ryzen 7 4700 model now

Between the flex 5 and the swift 3 which one would you choose?
These are two very different laptops. One is touch-screen 2-in-1 laptop which supports active pen, other one is a thin and light traditional laptop.
Great review. I agree with you about the soldered in place RAM. It is a dick move. Glad you mentioned Apple as a culprit of that practice. In general I like Acer products. Hope they avoid the bad habits of industry trends that short changes the users.

For programing pick a laptop with 16GB RAM. You will need it if you plan to develop apps in Android Studio. Any of those laptops will be a good choice. Also take a look at Acer Aspire 5

4) Msi modern 14 intel core i5 8gb ram 512gb ssd (it has easily upgradable ram)
Which would u suggest of the 4?
First 2 options are using HDD which will be very slow. I would pick option 3 because you are getting a very fast CPU

I just ordered the R5 4500U with 16GB ram, 512ssd for €700 which I think is the better laptop even with the lower performance than 4700U just because of the extra ram.
Can I ask what is the GPU for your laptop and how was the experience so far. I'm thinking of buying the 16gb option as well.

@@jinleft8978 I returned the Swift 3 4500U and got a Lenovo yoga R7 4700U 16gb for €48 extra just after my comment. The performance difference is not much between the the two for gaming, but has a few nicer features. I use it for software development and playing games from before 2016, many of those runs 1080p@60hz medium settings, also some newer games run fine at 900p. I think the model ordered was NX.HSEED.009 (€672), and there is a NX.HSEED.004 with 4700U and 1tb ssd 16gb ram (€720) in my region.
I been pondering if 16gb of ram are necessary or should I get a mini pc with 32gb of ram for programming and heavy use. What has been your experience so far? The only reason that I have found to desperately need 16gb of ram is that I would like to run Linux on it and only install windows on a virtual machine.
Now there is the swift X that has 16gb of ram and ryzen 5000 series. Looks like a really good alternative. Or should I get the swift 3 16gb ram in purple?
@@InkaHacker I hope this helps you, I tried to get the 16gb of swift 3 since it looks promising the only problem I had was the availability of it from where I'm from so I settled with Lenovo Ideapad gaming with 16gb as well. I use vm too to run linux and devascm . 16gb I guess is the minimum in heavy programming, so far with 16gb I was able to do faster processing for machine learning and image processing.
Swift X looks good but I'm just not a fan of soldered ram so that's what turns me off. So that's what also pushed me to pick something I can customize in the future as well. Laptops are just the good way to go for programmers especially if you're a student, but if you're professional and works from home computers are better imo.
