TL;DR: Starfield was NOT nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards. (no surprise there). However, Starfield WAS nominated for best RPG, but everyone already knows BG3 is going to win that award... it's pretty much no contest.

I'm hoping Neil Newbon takes the award for best supporting actor at the Game Awards, because he did such a fantastic job. He did win the Golden Joystick award for that category just this week.
He doesn't stand a chance because everyone's basically gonna vote for Ben Starr. His performance as clive rosfield was insane.
I guess itâs a matter of opinion. I personally think Neil deserves the win, but I agree that Ben Starr did a great job in FFXVI.
And Neil already won the golden joystick award a month ago for best supporting performer, beating Ben Starr and Idris Elba by a massive margin. Who knows? It might happen again.
you can like/dislike what you want. But objectively BG3 has to win. A game where other Devs said "you cannot expect this from us" should stand on its own pedestal.

Let's be honest people are way more excited about the orchestra & the game announcements like GTAVI,Elden Ring DLC, Silent Hill 2, Death Stranding 2 etc rather than these awards themselves. The awards are more like an afterthought.

I enjoy both, looking forward to Elden Ring DLC and maybe even a Lies of P announcement.
Maybe the average consumer of games, but people who respect gaming as an art form are definitely more interested in the talent developing the best games getting recognized. I honestly couldn't care less for a GTA announcement, if its good when it actually releases maybe I'll give a shit, but I know I'm watching to see Larian, Insomniac, Remedy, Nintendo, etc have their moment because they really triumphed in a year of hit after hit after hit. I always remember a GOTY winner, but a random CG trailer during? It all blends together, I care about what I can actually play.
Its highly unlikely that gta 6 will be announced at the game awards as then it will overshadow all other things.

I enjoyed the game that being said its the second worst Bethesda game i ever played after Fallout 76 i don't think it deserves any award since it feels like a downgrade in quality for Bethesda as a studio.
It is an RPG, just not a very fun one.
I really hope Alan Wake 2 pulls some awards. That game is a masterpiece

No matter who wins, we had some amazing (and not so amazing) games this year. So really the gamers have already won, but it is nice to have games we love get recognized.

Its so fun to see people say this because its true, but its nice to see that these two studios are basically Biowares legacy, one in the action rpg route the other in the classic rpg route
@@TheJCghost never thought about CDPR as BioWares legacy, but you're right, I think the first Witcher game even uses the same engine as Neverwinter Nights lol.
I hope CDPR will up their game, it's a shame they are not privately owned, I am afraid corporate might turn them down the road of Ubisoft and other "fallen" AAA devs, but time will tell. Hopefully the can juggle corpo whims without selling their soul.

Larian and CDPR have expounded on the RPG elements BioWare itself either founded or popularized, and have become so wildly known as well-made games (Divinity, BG3, Witcher 3) whereas BioWare is hanging on the edge of the chopping block after the disastrous releases of ME: Andromeda and Anthem.

I know it has no chance of winning, but I'm so happy for RE4, my favorite game of the year other than CyberPunk 2077 after the update, and even then it might be my favorite.
I do think that not nominating Hogwarts at all isn't great. I get them now wanting it in the big categories because of the controversy, but it should have at least been included in the small ones like the soundtrack and stuff, it feels pretty stupid to not have one of the most popular releases of the year not be nominated for anything.

Hogwarts just wasn't very good, not stellar in any aspect compared to the other nominees, and its had zero cultural impact compared to the rest too. I'd pick any one of those soundtracks over hogwarts, it makes sense.

Mid-tier open world games at best with sugar coating of HP franchise
RE4 Remake is so much better than Hogwarts Legacy and it deserves the nominations. I agree the music was good in Hogwarts, but it was just another generic open world game, filled with fetch quests and where you spend 95% of your time in the open world instead of Hogwarts. BG3 and Zelda deserve all the awards.

Hogwards Legacy had fun gameplay and a good open world. But the story and RPG elements are mediocre.
I'm not saying Baldur's Gate 3 should win awards. All I'm saying is this game has consumed my life like nothing else in recent years.

the fact that an ARPG like Diablo 4 was nominated for accesibility is baffling to me. Theres so much going on in late game with all of the floating numbers, aoe attacks, healthbars, and ability spam plus the fact that theres no WASD makes it tiring on your wrist after clicking nonstop for hours at a time. I think it would be cool if they added a "best cinematic" because the Phantom Liberty cinematic and WoW: War Within cinematic were breath taking.

If you play Super Mario Wonder, you will understand why it is a deserving GOTY candidate. Each level is absolutely epic and perfectly handcrafted. It is the masterpiece of Mario franchise.
I do hope RE4 gets some sort of award though which one I won't be picky about. I don't think it's GOTY but I'd be fine if it somehow won that of course. I'm pleasantly surprised Alan Wake is being overall recognized.

Hogwarts Legacy sold more copies than any of the nominees.... And not in the game of the year. Really.... I understand Baldur's Gate should win every thing, but Hogwarts Legacy should of got some nominees.

I completely agree that Hogwarts not getting a soundtrack nomination is insanity, that score was magical and truly added so much to the game, really immersed you in the HP world. But yeah, bigger awards I can see why they wanted to avoid it. Stoked to see RE4 get nominated for best game, itâs brilliant.

Itâs an action adventure/ survival horror game and literally every other game in that genre has enjoyable combat mechanics, LOU part 1&2, Resi Evil etc. the torch đŠ, gun, dodge and run combo gets repetitive real fast and compared to all other aspects of the game is by far the biggest letdown of the game. Iâm not saying I didnât enjoy it, the detective aspects great and the story and game world are fantastic but had this game not had such a lacklustre combat system it would of been an all time classic
@@hughmungus_698 Last of Us 1 and 2 are very similar as well, yes tlou 2 improved some aspects, but pretty much plays the same, you can also say about it that it becomes repetitive at times, Resident Evil as well with some of the puzzels, almost every game suffers from these problems, as long the story is good and worth the trouble, then i'm good, God of War becomes boring and repetitive pretty fast with the combat, i stopped playing Ragnarok because i was getting attacked too often by the same enemies all over again and it was becoming annoying because you can't avoid some of those interactions, yes it has a beautiful story but it's not perfect, Ghost of Tsushima is basically an repetitive cycle, "eliberate outposts" and at the end of the story you do it all again, because the game decides that the Mongols should go back at the same outposts you already cleared and do it again

I agree, watching the nominees announced live is a waste of time that could be better spent doing other things or watching other content. They should just post the list of nominees in a 30 second tweet/post and then move on.

RE4 and remakes in general should not be considered for GOTY. Imagine a game winning GOTY more than once... They really need to make a new category for remakes, with how many are being remade now. Also disappointed with no Hogwarts Legacy not getting a nod for anything!
Dead island 2 is my game of the year, it just gave me an amazing feeling and I loved the music I enjoyed it a lot

It's a slap in the face of the people who worked on hogwarts legacy to not nominate them for anything. Who cares if you get backlash. The sooner you ignore those people, the sooner they shut up. These people have perceived power bc people keep getting on their knees and begging to them. The game made over 1 billion dollars. Clearly they're in the minority.

I'm actually very mad that Lies of P and Assassin's Creed Mirage weren't even nominated for best soundtrack. Also, Hogwarts Legacy didn't get nominated for ANYTHING which is just absurd. As weird as it may sound I'd just take Super Mario and Resident Evil out and place Lies of P and Hogwarts Legacy instead, for GOTY.

Mario isn't worth mentioning for GOTY. It's literally just more Mario. People hold these games on such high regard when they don't really evolve much except for a new gimick or two.

I think you're overthinking Hogwarts Legacy. It sold well sure but it largely dropped off the gaming consciousness post April.
Culture war grifts are easier to benefit from rather than admitting Hogwarts was all but forgotten about 2 weeks after release because it was a boring and dull game to playthrough.

Call me crazy but as legendary as BG3 is, I dont think it should win best narrative. The game is standard setting in many aspects, but narrative isn't one of them.

Star Wars and hi fi rush wouldâve made my list for game of the year. Mario and re were great but definitely not for GOTY. Sea of stars should definitely get best independent game.
