He has said absolutely nothing to calm the situation instead he has inflamed the situation with his utterly ignorant statements, and reluctance to look into the grievances the of most of the disenfranchised underprivileged people who have been ignored for at least 14 years. Starmer also out of hand outright dismissed criticism of 2-tier policing without having investigated the complaints. Plus, Starmer’s attendance at Southport after the tragedy was utterly disgraceful because he only spoke to the police, not to the local community affected by the tragedy, being the PM he should have made a public speech to console the affected community. Seeing this drama from a distance, I'm seeing two sides of the debate, both of them seemingly making valid points and both of them being biased to one of two opposing political agendas. I'm not sure who to believe, probably bits of both.
Prof Wilson, again I find your opinion on this issue to be heavily biased. You are not even attempting to understand the perspective of the protesters. The situation is effectively the same as a war. You are condemning one side in a war for being violent! That is folly.
The situation as I see it: All would be well if the U.K. was a land of plenty, with unlimited resources with which to implement the idealistic woke ideology of open door migration policy, but that is very far from being the reality! As an analogy, it is as if the government is forcing you to accommodate permanent house guests, who cannot contribute anything to your household, are competing with you for limited resources and then one of them goes and kills your kids!
Migrants are competing with the local population for limited resources and are adding to the crime rate. The criminal justice system is overstretched as it is. There aren't the money or resources to implement open door migration.
Having said that, the problem is escalating. Racism causes retaliatory attacks, which causes increased racism. It isn't even really racism, but "anti-migrantism", which would be effectively the same if all the migrants were white Ukrainians or something.
We have had young girls stabbed to death and if people like Tommy Robinson and others are to be believed, also an ongoing problem with Muslim perpetrated "grooming gangs", the details of which I need not repeat here. You might try to doubt the existence of those, but you can't deny the Southport murders, which are arguably worse, so why doubt the gangs? Back to my analogy, if you are supporting house guests, then they have to behave impeccably, or they get thrown out and even just one bad apple can taint the whole barrel and spoil it for the rest, many of whom are peaceful, good people. Arguably, our best shot at preventing extremism is to punish their family and people for their crimes. Again the war analogy: the only thing really stopping Putin from going all in on Ukraine is the threat of retaliation. Without the threat of retaliation, anyone is free to impose whatever they like on the world.
So, please try to present a more balanced view in future!

    • @ianlayton6949

You claim the Prof is biased, then use words like "woke" which tells us all that you are far from impartial yourself.
The facts you seem to be blind to might include -
The UK is the sixth wealthiest nation in the world - but during the last 14 years that wealth had become concentrated in a way not seen since the days of Charles Dickens. The resources are there if they were more evenly shared.
So called "Illegal Immigration" (small boats) accounts for just 4% of UK immigration
The UK takes only 0.6% of the world's refugees despite our being the sixth largest economy
Home Office stats show over 80% of asylum seekers have valid reason under international law to remain in the UK
The last govt had effectively shifted the blame working people feel for the inequities in UK life away from the mega rich and onto the migrants.
While at the same time making those inequalities far greater and running out public services into the ground.
The new govt have had less that four weeks in office - yet are being blamed by the right for the state of the country after 14 years of mismanagement.

'Rebellion meant a look in the eyes, an inflection of the voice; at the most, an occasional whispered word. But the proles, if only they could somehow become conscious of their own strength, would have no need to conspire. They needed only to rise up and shake themselves like a horse shaking off flies. If they chose they could blow the Party to pieces tomorrow morning. Surely sooner or later it must occur to them to do it?'

Perhaps when Tony Blair let in 5 million extra people on the pretext that the native working class was lazy and greedy in their charges he could have considered letting out his 38 properties to cope with the extra housing needed.

Our water systems were fit to drink from and swim in, food banks were a rarity.
The Tories didn't build any affordable housing and underfunded the councils so heavily they couldn't afford to replace the social housing that had been sold off.

Not for the first time have I expressed doubts about the integrity of Amazon and Utube in respecct to their codes. Their partisanship and bias is not patent, but it operates in such a way as to arouse suspicion.
As a citizen I detest rioters, and that is within the law. According to the Law rioters should be read the riot act, and told to disperse; if they do not they run into peril because once the riot act is read it is legitimate to shoot them. Now I have criticised the principal culprits for stirring up this synthetic indignation; I have named them; first and foremost Nigel Farage and all those of his ilk and the social media that ferment these riots and do so using incendiary language about our elected government and its prime minister, and the comments about Mr Bair, Sir Keir Starmer, Joe Biden, Kamela Harris are intended to ferment hostility, and I wonder about the integrity of a code which allows peopl to recommend defunding the RNLI, or which requires the Navy to defend the nation against beleagured civilians, which endorses a rapist and a swindler as a candidate for the USA but denigrates people who have achieved their distinction by practising the law. It is a strange code that allows a David Starkey to advance views which are not history, and have no historical authenticity, but criticises the prime minister for attending a meeting of governments, and describes these in the caricature of 'jollies'
Well let me be clear I detest riots, and I detest rioters, and I deplore the hostility being generated against sections of the community indiscriminately and beleaguered civilians. and it is surely within the code to express disdain for the riots, and those inciting them, and it surely not in the code to libel and slander a prime minister for doing his job, or to libel Joe Biden, who is rated by people with some measure of authority, as one of the great Presidents. What, or who, is this code protecting? It seems to me to be the case, as with Amazon that there are pernicious pressures being exerted by people who do not mind generateting hatred but detest criticism or suspicion of those fomenting the trouble.
Having studied Fascism, My father being driven out of his country because of Fascism, I can legitimately, with cited authorities, identify the culprits of the Holocaust, as Lower middle class. It was those sections of the community that raised the hatred of the Jews, and it those same section of the community being incited to hate Moslems and immigrants.
I have provided the correct Procedure to deal with rioters, if that is hate speech then the law contravenes Amazon and U tubes bizarre codes. If I have trespassed against the code it is pointing out that modern technology, and the computer have changed the Labour Market in Favour of Women and it is that, and not immigrants that have disadvantaged the lower middle class male, who is as a result of the technology rendered defunct and obsolete and I have suggested that were women to discover the secret of synthesising sperm it is not only their brains that are surplus to requirements, and I have asked what this section of the community is worth, and I have in a spirit of loving kindness suggested that although their brains are not of much use, and their muscle obsolete, and their sexual prowess in danger, they should not despair of being entirely without worth, if rendered down to Meat and bone -meal the crops would adore them.
As I citizen I object to this conspiracy against Democracy which is an extension of Brexit. It has done immense harm to Britain at home and abroad, and I not not hesitate to lay the blame for the imminent death of the UK on Farage, Murdoch, the Rich Wing Media, Reform and their ilk , and Truth cannot, as Anne Bronte remarks in his feisty preface to the second edition of her controversial book 'Tenant of Wildfell Hall', offend. And the Truth is not hate speech, and it is not contravening the law to cite the law, and it is not creating synthetic hatred of immigrants or asylum seekers, certainly not suggesting we sink their boats, in the spirit of a Christian Country, so who is objecting. It is a question we should all ask and demand be answered. I

Not mine. Social housing is in such short supply, many British families have been on the waiting lists for years, yes, years, and while I welcome a new initiative to build more social housing, at 10, 000 new houses a year, it will take ten years just to house those who have arrived in the last few years, while more will arrive this week. Starmer's comments merely focus on blame, which is symptomatic of a person who has no answers and who refuses to accept any blame on their part. I beg to differ on "diversity". Nature designed genetics in such a way that races of humans lived apart in homogenous communities. Entrance by others was always by permission and never permanent. Communities were more peaceful, better organised and generally more harmonious in that configuration, and endured for thousands of years. It was only when migrations and invasions began that social systems began to corrupt and break down. I know we have to live with the reality of migration in these times, but it is problematic and always will be.

Criminality doesn't have a skin colour. Lucy Letby was a child killer but no protests there. The majority of prisoners in the UK are white (and probably from a Christian background).
