I like the touch of Pious being the only person to not lose sanity when looking at the enemies. Him being a soldier, he has done that before and has see way worse. Nice touch
It’s a great introduction to gameplay that makes sense from a lore perspective. Silicon Knights didn’t want to play their hand with showing the Sanity Effects right out of the gate, and like you said it makes sense Pious wouldn’t be freaked out by monsters after having a military career focusing on the horrors of war. The soldier complementing him on his battle tactics also goes to show how smart he is towards making it believable that he could enact the Ancients plans in secret over thousands of years.

A series would be better that way they can cover all the chapters without it feeling rushed
@@zlatkajupeI entirely agree with you! This game would work perfectly as a mini series and I’d love that, in lieu of a sequel game. It’s already kind of set up like one so it’d be easier to adapt, I’d think.
In my opinion, the perfect episode loop would go something like this: Alexandra identifies her grandfather, she reads the tome or some historical documents, the events of the past play out (maybe condense a few sections with a simpler narrative. The occasional “double feature,” if you will), it cuts back to the present and sometimes Alexandra figures out how to cast new spells.
Repeat the process until you run out of story and it’s time for Alexandra to kick some elder god ass! Pick any of the endings, I’ll watch every episode, either way. It could probably be completed in 6-10 (depending on episode length and if any stories are condensed) episodes.
To this day I still have a crush on Alexandra Roivas. They need to make this lovecraftian based game into a film
She’s pretty much just a slight variation of what Sara Michelle Gellar looked like when Buffy the Vampire Slayer was still on the air.

It's a shame the developers went with FMV for many of the cutscenes, which then had to be compressed horribly to fit on the Gamecube's tiny discs. This deserves an HD remake.
The Gamecube couldnt render those scenes in real time

@@Jose-se9puyes it could the qte events in re4 are real time and only gc could do it xbox and ps2 couldn't the pa2 ports where re done in fmv also the fmv here were originally made for n64 far bigger goes where done on the mini discs the sound also was over compressed as it was a early gc game altho to this day 1 of the best surround sounds in Ll gaming history the pro logic 2 mix was SUPERB
@@aldendomino3523 From what I understand, it's a whole lot of legal red tape preventing anything from being done with the _Eternal Darkness_ name. Plus, one of the writers got busted about 10 years back for being a creep with lots of illegal porn on his computer, so I think there was an effort to sort-of downplay the game for a few years.
But I really, really hope that one day, it will at least get a remaster if not a full-on remake on a system like the Switch. I'd love to play it again.
I absolutely loved this game and it still holds up today. I always thought that this would make a killer movie or even like a mini series. Each episode could be the story of each character. I'd watch the f*** out of that!

I think the Lovecraftian Mythos comparisons between the Ancients are a combination of several of each:
Chattur'gha / Cthuga + Nyarlathotep = The fire of Cthuga plus the scorpion body,
symbolizing Nyarlathotep in his form as Lord of the Desert.
Ulyaoth / Yog Sothoth + Dagon = Yog Sothoth's power of time and space to create gates, plus Dagon's power over the Deep Ones as shown in the design of the minions.
Xel'lotath / Cthulhu + Einhort = The madness inducing powers of Cthulhu, plus the headless form of Einhort with eyes in his hands, the Lord of the Labyrinth, as shown by the headless, multi-eyed visages of the minions.
Mantorok / Yog Sothoth + Nyarlanthotep = Yog Sothoth is the Door and the Key, the opener of rifts between realities, and is the warden who keeps the others out of our reality, including trapping itself, as both the Door and the Key, and Nyarlathotep, in his form as the Black Man, given his penchant for manipulating people throughout the centuries to free him from his servitude to the others so that he could become a major power in their place, and supplying them with the tome in which their names go that they must willingly accept, thus supplying them with the ability to perform magic.
Pious Augustus / Nyarlanthotep = In his forms as both the Black Pharaoh and the Crawling Chaos, shown by his black armor, and his ability to take many forms, him being the servant of the greater powers, needed to perform their will in the physical universe to free them from their own realms, while manipulating mankind to this end.

Bring this to the switch! Its such an underrated game

@@wallacepinheiro9586 Eesh. The only close thing to news I had heard a few years ago was Nintendo renewing the license. I know that kinda stuff happens all the time but maaaaaaaaaaaybe they can re-release it some day with upgraded visuals like the RE1 Remaster.
@@LEXICON-DEVIL it's definitely possible, but unlikely. more often than not, hidden gems get stuck in a paradoxical limbo in which everybody praises the game (critics and players alike) but no one wants to fund the sequel/remaster/remake because, in reality, very few people care about the game. and unfortunately this is the case with Eternal Darkness - the sequel to didn't reach the crowdfunding goal. the pedophilia allegations were just the icing on the cake, really.
on a bright note, Turok and Turok 2 got remastered on the Switch, so anything is possible! there's always hope, maybe someday it'll get ported/remastered, who knows?
@@LEXICON-DEVIL also, to add to what I said, something in the scope of the RE1/2/3 remasters (remakes?) is, quite honestly, impossible. we can't compare Silicon Knights (or rather, the group of people who created Eternal Darkness, since Silicon Knights itself filed for bankruptcy on May 16, 2014) to the likes of Capcom or Konami (MGS1 is getting ANOTHER remake/remaster, I don't know if you heard about it).
@@wallacepinheiro9586 oh I wasn't suggesting Capcom to remake it. I just meant that the gameplay holds up and a few tweaks and quality of life improvements would be sweet. It's a one off type game and just needs a lil graphical love. It got high ratings across the board but the GameCube wasn't really known for horror games so I don't think that demographic cared as much. It definitely didn't do poorly though. People would love this hidden gem now more than ever. There's literally no other game like it it blows my mind. At this point I'd be down for a spiritual successor.
When it comes to the allegations you mentioned it's a tricky subject. At some point people either got to separate the art from the artist or stop supporting it across the board otherwise everything we love gets destroyed. The biggest example being Michael Jackson's music. Hell that's why Sega struggles to re-release Sonic 3 with them original Michael Jackson tracks stuck in bad rep and legal limbo.
Jim Sterling is always talking about the horrible sexual and other crazy crap going on in these gaming companies with people like Bobby Cottic and other sexual predators.
You know it's a real shame they didn't made a sequel of this game. It would've been more cool otherwise.
