Paul, one of the things about your videos that make them so useful is the way you present them. You certainly have the qualifications but you present your videos in a very clear and simple manner so that a beginner can quickly understand and start applying the lessons to start taking great photos. You donât talk down to anyone but encourage people to have the same passion and enjoyment that you have. The videos are useful regardless of your level of expertise. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for your kind words and support, your feedback really does mean a lot to me.
Best wishes
Paul đ
I bought the Manfrotto BeeFree tripod after watching your review on it a while back and commented on how amazing it was. Having had it now for more than a year I have to say Iâm still loving it. Itâs handled every situation Iâve thrown at it and never once let me down. If anyone is looking for a travel tripod I can 100% recommend this one. Now finding Iâm doing more stuff in my home studio I am definitely going to get the 550 based on this video. Thank you for making amazing content.
Paul, I simply can't thank you enough for sharing your talent for photography, but more importantly your talent for instructing with us via CZcams. You are giving this beginner photographer so much more confidence and knowledge. Another incredible video.
As a beginner I started with a budget tripod and although it served me well it was a bit cumbersome especially travelling through airports and on planes, it was a bit too long to get through airport security gates and walk up aisles on aircraft without snagging as it had to attach to my camera bag horizontally. I have since invested in a K & F Concept travel tripod which packs down at least 10 cms smaller, has a far better ball head and is so much more stable. It also has a removable leg which acts as a monopod, so great value. Great tips regarding turning off image stabilisation whilst on a tripod and using a remote or self timer (we have all forgot to do this at some point Iâm sure) đ€Ż Love your channel Paul, you have helped me improve my photography in leaps over the last 12 months and I no longer regard myself as a beginner but more an amateur with lots still to learn. Whatâs good is I am getting images I am proud of compared to when I started and feel more confident on every trip out đ
This video contains nearly everything a beginner needs to know (no mention of mirror prerelease or materials the tripod may be made of) Superb presentation an example to all who post on YT! Only one personal note - Most top makers make tripods that can really take a bashing and there are lots of barely used ones out there so it is an item that I would always buy used.
Hi Paul, Iv'e had my Manfrotto 055 for many years now and would never change it. Just bought an XPRO monopod and love that too. Thanks for another great video, always good to be reminded of the basics.
Thanks for the info and links. I've never had any luck with tripods until I got a Manfroto with the QR plate. It cost me $300 but it's so worth it for stability and giving me peace of mind that my my camera is secureâ
Another great video. Thank you Paul. I'm always taking away bits and pieces from each video that helps me improve my skills and confidence.
Thanks Paul itâs always great watching you in these videos
I love my tripods! (Mostly Manfrotto, which are good enough, but strongly dislike the stability of their less-expensive geared head) I use them almost all the time. I really, really like how you explain everything so clearly and thoroughly. I've been shooting a long time, but I always pick up something from your videos. I often forget to turn off (or back on) image stabilization when using a tripod. Thanks for another awesome video!
You've been a long time supporter - I thank you for your continued support and great feedback. have a great day!
Paul.
I love this channel. Even with topics Iâm familiar with, I wind up learning something new. Very clear explanations.
I bought a canon R10 a week ago, it is my first camera. Thanks to you i am very familiar now with it's menus and basic photography as well (shutter speed, F, ISO, metering modes, exposure bracketing). I adore your style. It is simple and precise. Your videos are scribed on my brain. Greetings from Greece đ
Sad
I love the way you explain the contentâŠno jargons. Great teacher, in my top 5.
Brilliant really enjoyed that, went & bought a Manfrotto Befree for my travels đ
Great intro to tripods.
A lot of info communicated gently and smoothly and then summarised at the end of each section.
No hollering, no oh-my-Gods and no hype.
No trouble subscribing here.
This section about the Tri-pot comes very handy. Your presentation is 100% Thank You!
Another very informative tutorial Paul , you explain so well the necessity as well as how to use brillianty love my tripod particularly for long exposures , thank you đ
Yet again, very informative. Thank you Paul
Thanks for this video...i recently bought a tripod and didn't think about extending it from the top first for better stability. Good lookin' out!
Great video as always Paul! Thanks for all the tips.
My pleasure đ
Really useful. As a beginner this helped me understand how useful a good tripod is for long exposures and stable images.
I needed this! I have a cheapo tripod, that Iâm not happy with. In the market for a better one. Iâm glad I waited and saw this before plunking my money down. Iâm a novice and this really helps. Thank you!
Recently trying to do more astrophotography. Have a couple tripods that came in kits... re-evaluating upgrading. Meanwhile, as a result of this video I did get the Manfrotto Pixi. I'm leaving it set up for my iPhone and in car, knowing I can quickly change to my Lumix FZ300 as necessary. Thanks for this (and so many other) videos Paul!
Another helpful video Paul,thanks mate.
Thank you đ thank you đ⊠jet again⊠another super informative and easy understand⊠as well as sooo well presented Video from youđâŠ.. It always is an absolute pleasure and a blessing to watch you , Paul!!!!!
A huge Hello from one of your Foto friends, all the way from rainy but stunning Ireland đźđȘ đđ
You are very welcome Doris is is my absolute pleasure, thank you so much for the great feedback.
Paul đ
Thanks Paul for the wonderful videos it certainly has helped me, as a pensioner I enjoy being outdoors with my basic dslr and now I think I'm GREAT.
Very comprehensive instruction. Thanks Paul. One thing you did not cover was the best angle for tripod legs. There must be an optimum angle to achieve greatest stability. Nobody seems to cover this point.
LOL, in the good old time of film photography ( in my youth ) having a solid tripod was mandatory, even for portrait photographers. These days of imaging computers masquerading as cameras, with their IBIS and VC or equivalent, the need for a tripod is rather negated. I have a dozen tripods, a couple of Gitzos, Manfrotto, Benro, Induro, Velbon, Benbo, etc. One of the Gitzos, a French built Studex with the PL5 platform is capable of supporting my Cambo Studio Tech 4X5 camera with ease, even at full extension with a 240mm lens. You have given good advice here. My only coupleof point to add are to spend the money once and buy the best for one's needs, and IMHO a tripod as well as being rigid , also has to have heft to provide stability. The new trend of CF tripods, do not always provide both those requirements.
by far some of the best and most informative videos , great channel great tips thank you
Thank Paul, as always great tutorial video.
Thanks for the video; great information. I always learn something new or have forgotten.
Great video Paul!
Great video again Paul, thank you đ
Glad you enjoyed it Geoff, thanks.
More useful info Paul, particularly on which leg sections to use. Common sense really, but not commonly known. As ever, thanks for sharing
My pleasure Steve đ
I know we are Worlds away, but I continually get LOADS of good advice from you. So, Thank-you, very much!
I had wanted so long to buy a new, digital Camera, to replace the old, glorious Canon A1. Now, a steal of an offer for Canon EOS 2000D/ Rebel came flying by, and I took it ( 350âŹ) no....I don't feel guilty!!! So I've been watching LOTS of your old and new stuff,...all that really great advice helps me enormously!!!
Again, THANK YOU and I'll continue to visit your Site!
From Germany, James the exiled Floridian ! đ„ł
Interesting video Paul; I particularly enjoyed the topic of which legs to use - I am forever extending just the thinner legs and never thought twice about stability. I have a used Titan Miranda TP20 which I am told is a real classic and loved? I have chosen to take up the sponsor deal too! Thanks
Great video Paul; wish I'd watched this before buying my tri-pod, but as you said it works, just have to work around it's weaknesses......
Glad it was helpful Tom.
Paul.
best photography channel on CZcams.
Thank you
fire video, thanks bro
Clear and straigt forward explanations, very useful. Regards
You are the best of the best. Thank you.
Very helpful video and you are a truly excellent instructor.
Does the tip for the image stabilization apply to monopod too? Thanks for all the great videos, I learn so much from it.
Good tips Paul,
Am subscribed and have learned so much from these videos. Do mainly astrophotography so your instructions on manual settings are key. I use a wired cable release but same idea as remote or timer. Thanks.
Paul - Update to my comment below. Have spent some time just post-sunset taking aperture-prio photos on the tripod (I swear the one that came from with my FZ300 is the first one in your demos). It does NOT support Nikon D3500 with 28-300... too shaky. Its marginally passable with FZ300, but I noticed last night even using 2 second delay the photos were not quite crisp for shutter speeds approaching 1 sec or more. Just ordering thru your link (although I'm in US - hope you still get credit) the MK290. Thanks for all your great videos!! I find as I improve, I just generate more questions for myself, so continue to revisit your GREAT videos!
Hey Paul, great video :). Be careful buying the upgraded Befree travel tripod. Mine had a manufacturing fault which the repair agent in Australia tried to deny and was quite reluctant to help with.
Good to know Ivan thanks for the heads up.
Hello from Montana, USA, Paul! I'm heading out to take some shots. Thanks for the tip about deactivating Image Stabilization and using self-timer when on a tripod. I've been shooting for 30 years and this lightbulb just finally went on. Haha, God bless you, brother. And cheers from America.
Thank you Luke, hope you got some great shots. Best wishes to you from Australia.
@@photogenius I did, in fact. Would you like to see one? Shoot me your email, and I'd love to share an image with you from the mountains and lake-lamd of Montana in the Northwest United States from time to time. I just watched (curious what you'd both say,) that video on tips for photography (beginners?) with the gal with the white studio. What a neat space. It's surprising how many good tips I find in videos like yours, and I've been shooting and selling my work for 20 years. Thanks for taking the time to make the videos, Paul.
Great video, thanks.
Thanks Sir . Very helpful and enjoyed it. Thanks again .
So nice of you, thanks.
Thank you so much for this information and video I really needed to learn more about the photography business and Iâm a beginner photographer and I am still learning about photography â€â€â€â€â€â€â€â€â€â€
Happy to help, thanks for the kind feedback.
I have Nikon D3500 with 18-55mm and 70-300mm lenses. I'm interested in a small compact tripod ie Manfrotto Pixi but concerned won't take weight. Appreciate any advice. Thank you.
Thanks.... very helpful.
Glad it was helpful, thanks for watching.
Paul I enjoy your very informative videos
Thank you kindly Carol đ
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou.
Interesting. I wonder if you made a video about backdrops. Gonna look for it đ
Thanks
Thank you very much for supporting me and my channel, it is very much appreciated.
Best wishes to you.
Paul @ Photo Genius đ
Hello Paul. I am new here. I have learned a great lesson from you. Well done
A very good presentation, thanks.
Paul, I love your videos ! My question again to you is why do you never use a camera strap in your videos ?
Are you not afraid of dropping your camera? Just something that I noticed. Thanks and keep up the great videos !
I really like your videos, very informative
And I love your picture of the Battersea Power Station, just miss the flying pigâŠ
Greetings from Denmark
Thanks for another great video, Paul!
Hi Paul. Do you have a video on what kind of computer to get.

i like my budget Tripod. I never extend it fully anyways. Mine has Level bubbles and hook at bottom of center for weight. Now to try an use it.
Paul, great video thanks! Do you think the Manfrotto ELEMENT CARBON can support as much weight and give the same stability as the Manfrotto BeeFree one? Each tripod says it supports up to 4kg, but the carbon one is lighter... It would be to support the weight of a Fuji X-T5 and 16-55mm (around 1.5kg) with the camera leaning back (or forward) at 45 degrees angle for long exposures. Thanks.
Gret video. Can you supply the model # on the monfretto monopod. And can a ballhead be attached to it. Thanks.
I seem to have a problem with the plate staying tight on my canon &0D. I have to carry a taped quarter to aSurui tripodto keep tightening plate to camera. I have a disabled arm & itâs not easy to have to detach everything just to tighten plate. Any suggestions? I use an Oben gimbal head which has caused me to want to fling it into the lake as it has made photography so much harder. Everyone describes a gimbal head as oh you can just adjust with one finger. Not true if youâre disabled. I thank you for the center column not raising bc I have had 2 sigma 18-300 mm lenses become accordions bC as the lens face planted TWICE thatâs a lot of $$ lost. Iâm not as free with movement using gimball. But it was while using ball head the camera face planted. Thanks for tips. Can you discuss turning camera to landscape via loosening the collar. I see others do it so fast. Any suggestions. Thank you.
Iâve had a tripod three years first time Iâm going to use it swallow falls Md . And deep creek lake Md
Hey Paul , another very good video , many thanks , going to get myself one of these MF mini pods , they look fun cheers from NZ
Paul
How do you turn off the steady shot on a Sony camera please
Oh also could u do a video on ball head and L-brackets as well as other tripod attachments?
I am curious about getting a gimbal head for my tripod to hold my Nikon D750 and battery/grip with my new Sigma 150-600mm f5-6.3, and Lbracket, How come you didn't cover Gimbols? I currently use the NEEWER travel tripod and Ball head
Hello there Paul-
Question for you⊠I have an EOS Canon R7 mirrorless camera. Q: how come my âself timerâ doesnât always work after I press the fire button? I cant to figure out why and it frustrates me!
Thank you.

Many thanks to Skillshare for supporting the channel.
Im trying to find a small tripod that will fit in a regular backpack thats sturdy. Its been hard finding one that folds up small and is stable.
Got a budget tripod but also the remote trigger
Hi Paul, would you consider doing a show or 2 on superzoom cameras like the Nikon 950. Thanks âŠâŠâŠ..Donđ
That Big one is nice ! cost more than my T7 setup up Lol.
Yep, you need to be using it a lot to justify the cost, thanks for watching Jim.
Any recommendations on a remote shutter button that is reliable and durable, but won't break the bank? Been looking on Amazon, but most of the reviews say they stopped working 2-3 months after they got them... Thanks in advance
Sorry can you explain image stabilizer with a tripod pros and cons?
Not really a comment. Is there any chance you could please do a programme on the Panasonic Lumix FG80 camera which I have. Look forward to your reply. Ruth Grayson
I can't find the links to the tripods you showed :-)
Hi Frank, have updated the list to include the videos - thanks for the reminder!! To save you time, here they are . . . . .

Any difference between $30-$50 tripods from amazon v.s $200-500 big branded ones?
Absolutely, and the main difference will be stability which is of course is the reason why we use tripod in the first place. There are a few factors to consider such as the wight of your camera and lens, portability and of course budget, so choose wisely. Thanks for watching.
Coffee-time.
Good morning.
I have one very cheap One
after my camera almost broke I decide to buy A better one for 300$ instead using 30$
I mean buy a cheap one but when the camera with all of us will be much expensive to repair it so this is one of the good investment when you buy a new camera and you need a tripod donât ever buy a cheap one.
I just started using a tripod but some pictures just don't come out for me
how to take vidoes in church pls if you can help me about it
Too many ads, commercials.
The ads are a necessity I'm afraid, there is so much invested in putting these videos together that this channel and content would simply not exist without having some way to fund it. I do appreciate the feedback and hope you still enjoyed the video and tips.
Best wishes.
Sir, can you please help us learn how to shoot a choreography or any camera tips to improve it!â€ïž
You got the toys Photo Genius but can you play with the boys?
1) Why don't you show the different tripod-moduls and tripod-heads in a proper way? Hurry, hurry and hurry again. Anyone who is interested wants to see it in ""slow motion"" and for all in detail. Now you are rushing and sometimes keep your hand before the different heads so no one is able to see it properly. 2) why don't you show less types and these ones in more detail. Besides you rush/talk so quick. Interested people drop out quickly. A shame because I think your information could be very interesting and helpful.
