  • This is the engine out of my shop truck, the engine had severe lifter noise and oil consumption at the time of removal. from everything I see this trucks engine is completely original.

    My brother's 5.9 in his 98 Grand Cherokee broke the front lifter on the passenger side. We put the 5.2 cam and lifters in it. They definitely make more power that way. He can get it to break traction on all 4 tires on dry pavement.

    I work for an oreillys and have assembled one of those stands and the cherry picker. The bolts come like that from the factory and it sucks especially when you’re building it in the middle of the warehouse with phones ringing off the hook

    Definitely a standard size. Factory replacement mopar bearings will have a .001, .010, .020 ect stamped on the shell if they are oversized. I pulled a 2001 Jeep 4.0 that all the bearings were .001 oversized. It must have had a slightly to large of bearing clearance from the engine plant that they corrected.

    Gotta love the way those engine stands wiggle, just reassuring AF. I lean towards Glyptal for one reason, cleaner engine. Filling in the surface texture on cast makes for less coke and carbon build up in the engine. Anything you can do to keep it cleaner is time well spent IMO.

    I had a three wheel engine stand, really bad design, putting so much weight on one wheel. I always felt like I was about to tip the engine over when I moved it. Got rid of it and got a four wheel stand, much better stability and easier to move.

    Most of those heads have cracks between the valves. Most of the time those never crack to coolant though and don't hurt anything.

    I would say maybe wrong type of oil or right oil wrong climate, maybe should of used an additive like Prolong Super Lubricants PSL11000 Engine Treatment other than that it could of gone another 100,000 or so more miles.

    Question not critisism, why do you not steam clean an engine before stripping it? I know you will look for oil leaks etc but you could do that, then clean it and dismantle a much cleaner engine?

    My 92 had a magnum 318 , ran like a scalded dog , not a big fan of the keg intake, the magnums seem to make all the power and torque above 3500 rpm

    • @Spyke383

      The later intakes did away with the divider, and you can further improve on them by welding in pieces to eliminate the dead space between runners.

    Not much wear at all on that block. Should be nice once you're done freshening it up. Since I'm not yet a member of your patreon page, are there plans to use the Cometic head gaskets, along with the ARP bolts?

    • @Spyke383
      @Spyke383  Před 2 lety +2

      Well I was planning on ARP bolts but summit keeps delaying them, so I may start looking for alternatives. As for head gaskets I'll se what my overhaul kit came with and most likely upgrade from there.

    • @Spyke383
      @Spyke383  Před 2 lety +2

      Glyptal is a red paint that acts like rainx but for oil. It sheds it off helping more efficiently return oil and prevent build up.

    A "stall" convertor ?????????

    • @richardlazarski4553
      @richardlazarski4553 Před 2 lety

      A stall torque converter lets the engine get into the power band before locking up the transmission into gear. It's like slipping the clutch for an automatic transmission. They come in different rpm ranges
