I've known several people in my lifetime that have gotten killed by doing the exact same thing...
That tree was providing a lot of needed shade even if it was a bit close to the house. The most difficult thing to endure by far was the moron whose parents never taught him to wear his pants properly or teach him what a belt was used for.
