I find it amusing how all the news stations are searching for videos of minor earthquake footage like it was a catastrophic event 🤣
It’s a rare occurrence in the northeast so I’m sure news outlets will want to show this odd occurrence. Those in San Francisco probably wouldn’t even look up.

That is what it sounds like a train coming and it's intense
Southern California resident here who's been through a few big ones. That's about a 4.8. The closer you are to the epicenter, and the shallower the quake, the more motion you'll feel. So. Cal. residents won't run out of the coffee shop during such a quake. We'll finish our coffee.
No, so sit and wait to see if it gets any bigger. When you realize it isn't, THEN you finish your coffee.
As I live in New England now but lived in LA for a few years, I agree. The biggest I felt was a 7.3 but I was not near the epicenter. Both the initial quake and that aftershock were exponentially scarier than this and lasted longer.
Exactly. There were 2 earthquakes out here in Northern California earlier this morning and no one is talking about it. We're so used to it.
As a North California resident an earthquake of 4.8 is also the norm people will continue going on carrying out their business as usual.

The last one I remember was in 2012 My bed literally rocked almost a foot away from the wall. I never experienced an earthquake before so I was a little scared for my life
My cats were really freaked out here in central CT. I heard it more than I felt it.

I felt this in Westfield Massachusetts this morning. It was weird, I couldnt feel it, but my counters were jumping. That's how I noticed.
One time I felt the preceding shock waves in the ground before the earthquake hit. I yelled Earthquake! and got in a doorway. Everyone looked at me like I was an idiot, and just then it hit. It was about a 5.8 so a good shaker. That was kind of fun.

The world trying to correct itself from all this bs that’s going on.
Yeah ok so tell it to muster up a damn Wave to get the bridge out if the daggone Maryland port. Wtf?
What's weird was that people clicked and went outside and looked to see if there was any smoke or fire, some bringing back horrible images of the past.
I felt that initial bump also, all the way from central Vermont lol. Although, no where near as strong as some of these videos, at first I thought it was a plop of snow falling on the porch, but then I noticed everything was still shaking for at least 30 seconds, but seemed more like 60 to me.
Yup that would scare me 😮
The sounds and stuff shaking and falling off in the videos from Sparta, Manville, and Middlesex has become common now in Oklahoma in the last 5 or so years where I live. The last one that we had like that was a few months ago. We thought it was going to separate our chimney from our house and knocked everything off of the hearth and broke lots of glass falling from the hearth. It is scary and it lasted a long time with many after shocks. I know how all of those people feel from this morning.
Thank you
I live in Passaic, NJ and I'm almost 60 years old and I experienced few earthquakes.
This earthquake I heard a loud horrendous rocky sounds like rocks breaking, I was not scare of the earthquake but that loud noise scared me and I ran out of the house.
These East Coast quakes are felt over long distances as the shockwave travels along these old granite mountain ranges. If you are on bedrock it's a jolting type shaking, if on "looser" valley ground, more like waves on a waterbed.
There is a fault line that runs on 125th st in Harlem. In nyc. Earthquake of 3.8 in 1985 in nyc area. I felt an earthquake in china a few years ago was in a hotel. Scary.
The dishes and glasses were rattling just like @ 1:16 and I live in the Poconos, 5 miles South of Pocono Raceway, approx. 58 miles NW from the epicenter.
It was felt in Toms River, which is on the shore in Ocean County, NJ 😮
Yep
What happened to Taiwan is way worse than this but of course in the end any earthquake that is 4.0 or higher is a little scary.
Earthquakes of course you can never predict as opposed to weather

I was in East Brunswick and it felt most like the video in Sparta at 5:02. Interesting how the duration is so different from place to place.
I felt one in Reading, PA maybe 10 years ago. I was in a mall, and everyone in the mall went silent. I think it was a category 4.
Earthquakes aren't measured in categories fyi
Yep a category 4 Hurriquake!
I was in the middle of CT. We heard a loud bang and then our office floor and monitors were shaking for about 20 sec. We don't get quakes around here so it was very weird.
I live a few miles from the point of origin, it felt like the apartment complex was about to collapse.
That dog caught on camera on the dining room table😂
Strange. I've been watching videos about tunnels under New York and how it's all bedrock... Then this.
It is. That's why it's so strange that it lasted as long as it did. The east coast experiences many earthquakes every year but due to the geology they're here and gone in a matter of seconds.
Honestly, living in L A all my life. A 4.8 is really not a big deal at all. You basically just acknowledge that we just had a baby earthquake if that.
4.8 is aa baby for the east coast as well. We have multiple earthquakes every year. Some hitting 7 and 8 on the scale. We generally dont shake this long due to our geology. Thays why these fools are sensationalizing what normally wouldnt even be felt
Well that's Cali not NJ 😒 We have test bombing at the nearby Airforce base and we are used to the windows shaking. But my entire house shook and I heard the rumble loud and clear. We are not accustomed to this on the East Coast so it is a big deal
I work from home at the Jersey Shore near Seaside. My entire house shook so hard that I thought a tornado was ripping through the neighborhood. I looked out the window and the trees were still. Then my phone started blowing up with texts asking if I felt that. Scared the crap out of me😬
I felt here in Pennsylvania
Anyone remember the Virginia earthquake from 2011?
my room shakes and all the stuff in it far more , upstate when a truck drives by and that can be like several times a day.
I felt it this morning. I thought it was a helicopter above the house. Everything in the house wass shaking.
Western Marylander here! There was an earthquake in Virginia, and it was felt here ! They said in VA a Nuclear Power plant cooling town moved a few inches!
Michigan had a small tremor back in 2015...
Where i was it sounded like rumbling rocks, loud sound like a demolish explosion, shook house ,like felt like house was moving.
OMG those bottles almost clanging together is SHOCKING!!!!!!!!!
We felt it all the way up in maine.
I have a train line right behind my house. A family member said "did the house just shake?" I said "no it's a train" she said "the train doesn't shake my bed". I didn't feel it. I just heard it and thought it was the train. But 4 other people in my house felt it.
It felt like a train going by, I wasn’t sure what it was…
😅 you in jersey or nyc.
@@petercole8798 in PA
The nearby rumbling trains were louder than usual, then our building shook while pictures flew off the shelves -- it ended in mere seconds. It was an unexpected event for the NY area, but not scary at all. Besides, we just dealt with yet another Nor'Easter, more severe flooding, high winds, power outages, and more toppled trees.
Yep I live in Kansas and by the tracks they feel about the same.
They are so dramatic up in the NE. I live in OK and we've had bigger ones than this from fracking.
@jkent9915
Good time to remember that they are measure by orders of magnitude.
This was a 4.8, the 7.4 that happened yesterday in Taiwan isn’t ~50% more powerful, it’s hundreds of times more powerful. From 4 to 5 is 10 times more powerful, from 4 to 7 is 1000 times more powerful.
Kudos to JKent9915 from Lyndafayesmusic@Yahoo
Exactly-and the Taiwanese speak better English too.

It's scary in the concrete jungle. 😮😮😮
4.8 is an average day in Alaska..
Oh the humanity!!!
As a Californian, im ok with earthquakes. But tornadoes, blizzards, hurricanes, hell to the no.😊
That's child's play for the East Coast 😃 Stay safe
In York pa I noticed my Lego sets vibrating and making noise, I thought it was just the quarry but nope!
California has them all time...
But not NJ…
california also has zombies
really?
NJ gets a handout from Biden.. While California is left to deal with it every time it happens...🤔🧐
This isn’t normal for the east coast.
NY is on the express track of the earthquake train... when we shake here the force is traveling somewhere else where it will hit big.
The way the white dog on the back of the couch looked up before the main shake happened!
I love the husky who is fearless
That's funny. My husband said. That's what it sounds like when you have trimmers. It sounded like a train and then it just disappears
You haven’t had much of a earthquake going by the videos. All earthquakes aren’t the same even if they have the same magnitude. Some are really sharp and have snap and others are more of a rolling sensation. It’s a good one when the bottles aren’t tinkling but are flying off the shelf and breaking.
The shaking bottles were over 50 miles from the epicenter
It was pretty minor. Quakes of this magnitude happen all the time in Southern California.
Agreed, but when it rains, the police have to remind you to use your wipers.😂
@geneticepistomology lol, hey I grew up on the East Coast, but was there long enough to get that. I was taking a shower during the first earthquake I felt in LA. It rolled in from the East and knocked some books off my shelves. I thought someone had broken into my apartment before my shower stall became a fun house ride. Remember that old commercial where the guy in the shower sniffs the soap and then suddenly he is on a waterslide? I just looked it up. It was a soap called Zest, that got you Zestfully clean. Good times...
@@seaninness334 I remember that commercial ). We don’t get many earthquakes here but because of the geology, they travel quite far. Most people are not familiar with what can happen at New Madrid. Apparently the last time it occurred, it was felt through the Carolinas.
It was Carole King
These also happen all the time on the east coast. They normally dont blast this long which is why these foold are going nuts over it
Small tremmers or not ive been keeping a journal of the huge bang i feel 3 to 4 times a night under my home for 2 years! So small tremmers in this Ohio area can lead to a HUGE EVENT

Does anyone know the extent to which Northeastern building codes are designed for Earthquakes. In California buildings are newer and also built to streonger codes, I'm curious if some older NY buildings were hit
They are non existent
Check the writing on "The Wall."
My daughter lives on top floor of an old (more than 100 years old) tenament in Little Italy, NYC and she said it felt liek the building was crumbling; very freaky. No idea if old NYC old buildings are solid enough for earthquakes

i mean absolutely zero offense, but most people are aware that california gets tons of earthquakes, the northeast typically never has any, like ever. so it would make more sense to cover something that was a rare occurrence rather than a normal one. they could’ve mentioned it but they probably just didn’t.
@cacky_moon I'm not complaining. Just poking a bit of fun. Actually, we complain when the earthquakes are light or don't last long lol. But ours were back to back so it was a decent shake.
