We’re led to believe our society is progressing and improving. But do a side by side comparison of the town today and it’s very hard to believe that is what is happening.

The 'now' pictures seem carefully edited... don't see any of the current local citizens.

I was delivered (1954) by Patrick Steptoe who pioneered test tube tech much later. Glad that my parent's emigrated to Australia in 1963.

My Mum is from Oldham and we lived there in the late seventies before moving to Wales. We lived in Sholver and went to Hodge Clough Juniors. My grandparents lived in Derker, Sydenham street and we'd spend our christmas' there. Lots of fond memories of the place and will visit soon as I have cousins still living there. Is Tommyfield market still there?
