David is joined by Worldcoin Co-Founders, Alex Blania and Sam Altman. Alex is Worldcoin’s CEO and Sam is CEO of OpenAI. Both Co-founded Worldcoin in 2020.
Worldcoin is one of the most ambitious crypto projects in the space. It’s Worldcoin’s philosophy that the best way to produce unique verifiable humanness is through human biometrics that map to our unique DNA. This is the most robust way to achieve sybil resistance. That is why Worldcoin created its silver Orb that scans user's eyeballs.
Why scan the eye? Is it safe? How is data stored? What’s Worldcoin’s crypto token distribution plan? All of these questions and much more answered in the episode.

This could either be one of the most important and pivotal steps forward in crypto and economics or such a big technosocial failure that it plunges us into a new exponentially dystopian dark age where humanity at large is under the thumb of AGIs, ultramegacorps, and the worst of bad actors.

Open source? Yeah right, didn't openai start off as open source?
No, OpenAI did not start off as open source. OpenAI began as a research organization with a mission to ensure that AGI benefits all Humanity. Initially, they published some of their research to the public, but they did no release their core AI technologies as Open source. Over time, their approach to the openness and sharing as evolved, and they have made some of their models and tools available for research and public use., but not their entire technology stack.
Trusting a rich Sam to have only altruistic motives? Sounds familiar.
You basically asked 2 times about the iris scanning. And instead of answering you, he basically told you exactly nothing with a couple of dozen words. To my knowledge that can mean 1 of 2 things: He doesn't want to tell you because basically it's a bad story and/or it's opening a can of worms and exposes faults eventually. 2 He is kind of a maniac and enjoys staying as obscure as possible to try to get attention that way. - I don't like people who put words like open source into their mouths and all kinds of other nice words, but when you ask them to explain something they refuse.
Congratulations, bank roll now more important than values

Wow so many high level ideas my brain can barely handle it. Thank god we didn’t get any details about tokenomics because I’m afraid my brain would have exploded. Alex does not give off scammy vibes at all. When and how can I send my eyeballs to him?
🤯
non-crypto people don't understand why this is an issue: "The token launch entailed 143 million WLD being issued. Notably, 100 million WLD were allocated to market markers, with the remaining tokens being received by investors who verified by scanning their iris during Worldcoin’s pre-launch process." (market maker for UBI??)
People fall for cryptocurrency scams for a variety of reasons:
1. Lack of understanding: Cryptocurrencies are a relatively new and complex technology. Many people don't fully understand how they work, making it easier for scammers to deceive them.
2. Greed: The promise of high returns can cloud judgment and make people ignore warning signs of a scam.
3. Fear of missing out: Many people are worried about missing out on a lucrative investment opportunity, which can lead them to rush into decisions without doing proper research.
4. Social proof: If people see others they know or respect investing in a particular cryptocurrency, they may be more likely to invest themselves without doing their due diligence.
5. Sophistication of scams: Scammers often use advanced tactics, including professional-looking websites and social media profiles, to appear legitimate.
Remember, intelligence doesn't necessarily equate to being informed about every topic or being immune to scams. That's why it's important to stay informed and be cautious when dealing with investments and financial matters.
Who's got a list of the books behind Sam?
So I have 1 grant now. It says I will get another one in 6 days. Can I let it these grants build and then verify with an orb to redeem all of them? Or do you need to verify with an orb between each grant?

When will the World Coin's office be coming to Jacksonville, FL, so I can verify my orb? I have been waiting to scan my orb since the beginning of this year. Thanks 🙏
someone spent over 20mill only for paychecks for the team (100k a year is probably an underestimate for top programmers and engineers). who were they and what do they get if they built a decentralized protocol that everyone can use with no limitations and they didn't get worldcoin tokens in an ICO or pre mine?
You can say it til your blue in face. Hard to trust any company that say they are open source to later not make it open source. Jusy telling me dont sign up for it is not enough to trust you.
Yeah, sad to say this but this was either unscrupulous and uncritical or shilling... Let's hope it's (rare) bad work from David.
Here is an incomplete list of questions that have come to my head that arguably David should have asked:
1. Tokenomics! How exactly are tokens distributed, to whom and at what rate.
2. Tokenomics again. How does value acrue in the system? Are there value drivers? What's the narrative that will keep the price from falling to the floor as you hand out lots of tokens? If this is an inflationary system, do tokens also get consumed somewhere?
3. Security. How do they know the eye belongs to an alive/awake human? Is it even attached to a human body or are gangsters gonna start tearing people's eyeballs out when if the token becomes expensive?
4. UX. Once I've connected my Iris hash with a wallet, how do I change that wallet in the future?
5. Tech. Why exactly did they go for OP? The answer given here is that they are basically friendly with the Optimism people... Not good enough
6. Decentralistion. How exactly do they plan to make it less decentralised? How will they get rid of their backend being involved? (seems hard) Will there be a DAO?
7. More tokenomics. 13% of intitial distribution is given to investors and 13% to founding team. Is that fair? 26% of money belonging to maybe 100 people. How does that compare to the global economy, etc.
8. Investors. How much money have you raised and from whom? Do you need to raise more? How will this affect the development of the project? Are the investors getting tokens or stock? Is there stock? What's the corprorate governanace?
9. Security. The orbs can create new Worldcoin ID "human" identities, they are effectively oracles. What's the process for making sure that the protocol wouldn't take inputs from fake orbs or something along those lines? How is the oracle secured?
CMON!
so we can't talk about token distribution, because US (so the worldcoin is a company in US? because if it was a decentralized protocol, they could talk about it for the rest of the world). could we get the info of how much of the coin is owned by the team that build it and the investors? Feels like pretty important information.
I’ve read 80% is going to be redistributed, 20% kept to cover expenses
Lol you guys are more concerned about tokenomics than your freedom 😂

Should have asked Sam more questions after all you did invite him to the show.
From the T&Cs. Eligibility. "You are not located in, under the control of, a national, or resident of: Syria, the Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions of Ukraine, Russia, North Korea, Iran, Cuba, or any other country or region with whom the United States, the European Union, or any other country or jurisdiction has restricted the access of the Services". Doesn't sound very worldwide?
How do they prevent someone from manufacturing a modified Orb device that can do iris scans with randomly generated iris data, and thus create an infinite amount of unique "humans"?
In other words you're dismissing the feasibility of biometrics as such then
They can't, and there's some rogue orbs over there stealing identity, a new way to do spoofing
One more step towards the MARK!
16:42 I wonder what was the reason for such a smile
27:00 decentralizing the uniqueness check is going to be tough. perhaps some sort of binary search tree where each level is one component of the embedding 🤔
You’re better off playing slots or a scratch off than you are gambling with crypto
Funny when the "world" app say this app is not available in your country! 😬
What's to stop someone paying $20 each to anybody who wants to go and scan their eye then sell their ID to make a quick buck, then for the payer to accumulate all those identities for themself? I admire the ambition of this project but there are too many ways for it to fall down. If you try to map men, they will do unpredictable things. Also these guys seem overly concerned about regulations and politics. Currently, if you're Russian or Iranian then you're not allowed to prove yourself as a person and if you're in the US then you're not allowed to earn the coins. Lots of square pegs and round holes here. But its early days and I'm interested to see how it plays out.
Great concept, future minded and likley needed. Perhaps we need some more educational videos around zero proof and how this project works, everyone just jumping straight to distopian government scam or what not without doing a second of research (Chinese Whispers). The educational videos would need to be explained as if you would explain to a child as most people throwing mud at this are stuck in the matrix and have no clue.
can somebody share a list of all books they can see on sam's background? i can see Van Gogh, Big deal
I'm not sure why I need to actually say this, but I feel like it needs to be said straight up...

I'm baffled at how people can trust a channel like this when they *literally* have 6 minutes of intro, half of which is just straight ads + rotating banners during the whole video, do you seriously think these guys really care about decentralization?
This episode conviced me to atleast read through all the documents of worldcoin.
Why couldn’t they of just put the biometric scanner into the world coin app the same way Apple does with iPhone Face ID
there is detail in the whitepaper on that. basically they need better hardware than phone have to make sure people are not making fake images. i still think people will cheat the system. i mean, for a start, don't most people have TWO eyes?

Wow
Talking 1 hour whith say basically nothing.
Good interview 😑
This is as scary as Hell and as hopeful as my eternal spiritual humanness in Heaven at the same time. I believe in my humanness, because today I exist. Therefore, I value my humanness, but I believe as it is currently positioned in our worldly culture, my humanness does not matter beyond the taxes I pay, the money that can be made on me and what can be taken from me. I agree that I should own the value of my humanness, and distribution; this is why I gravitate to this project. This is something I have talked with many people about for many years and I had envisioned this to be done with phone numbers and tokenomics, obviously, my limited resources were holding me back. My thought process was in line, why do I not receive the value translated to income for me existing in this world? Why does Google, Apple, and every other social media platform or or device company make money on me and what permission did I give them to do so. Besides my family and personal relationships, If I want to talk to somebody, I will pay to talk to them, if they want to talk to me, they can pay to talk to me and that is that. It works the same way if I want to buy something from someone or they want to buy something for me, we must pay. Of coarse, we can barter or we can choose to give it away for free as well. Why should it be any different when my time is involved, my existence is the most valuable asset I possess and it is only for a short period of time. Iris, the name is as brilliant as the beginning of our humanness and spirituality. Intriguing, If these guys and this project are really all about the distribution of the value of our humanness and identity to the one who holds it, this may be the leap I’ve wanted to be a part of.

The way to combat centralised AI systems is not by more centralisation identity systems or proof of personhood. It’s with more freedom, more anonymity, less tracking.
Just refer to latest edition of mission impossible series lol
The absolute gall of Sam Altman who created the closed ai system to then decide to go to developing countries n lure people into giving up their identity by bribing them with worthless coins is distasteful. Seriously.
Then provide your alternative with more "freedom" that can scale to 8 billion people
You dont need a single private database that holds, permanently, someones identity information of 8billion people. Not to mention it is connected to money(Worldcoins). Its a dystopian nightmare.
In a world that everything is tracked and fed into the AI machines, what you need is more freedom tech, pseudonymous identities.
