Impressive. Takes me back to my Boy Scout days when we went camping on a VERY tight budget. I actually used an old shower curtain for shelter and a cleaned out dish soap bottle for a canteen. Our stove was an old #10 coffee can. They worked.
I liked the fact you went from hypothetical, to planning to application and showed each step as well as multiple uses for things. I at one time felt silly putting some hemp twine in camping stuff but more and more I see how valuable it is.

Tying knots is an under estimated aspect of survival. Just an opinion. You're like the Yoda of knot tying.
Knot tying is an absolutely essential survival skill. That said; learn the Taught-Line knot for your ridgeline.
A clove hitch, bowline and bowline on a byte are 3 good knots that you can untie after you have tension on them which is important if you are planning on reusing your rope. Some knots cinch so tight , you cant untie them. I've seen knots cut rope from cinching too tight.

Very instructive. My father, a south Texas cowboy who served as a boatswainsmate during WWII, taught me many of these knots when the opportunity, doing ranch work, presented. I appreciate the more formal aspect you provide with the proper names of the knots are included. Well done Marine. Carry on.

I am a 65 year old grandmother, and I learned how to tie knots I never even knew about! I do shop at Dollar tree a lot, but I will go a little better on the gear. I won't break the Bank but I'll have what I need. Thank you for your service now and always.

I really like how you PATIENTLY took the TIME to show us step by step how to make rope, shelter, tripod, etc. and didn't use much editing or anything, just SHOWED us in detail. Even when that one tripod branch broke you were like, "We can save this" - Just no worries. Be calm, patient, adapt, overcome. Love that. Thanks! I wonder if my wife would mind if i practiced this with our shower curtain in the back yard.. Some how i think she wont be real happy with me. Even if i would explain why and where i seen it from.. But all in all its a nice shelter with materials he found.. How nice would that be if you had better stuff to work with. This one reason i like his video's. He shows you several things you can use . goes into detail so you can do it. Heck if you had to get outa dodge because poop hit the fan you could grab some items of your own from your place where you live and make a shelter with just the steps he shown us here. He is showing technics on how to build things . take that and go with it.
Collecting rain water with the shower curtain as it's set up in the video, tie half cone as shown in the video, about six to eight inches from the bottom in the middle of the INSIDE of the big sheet, pull it till gently until it forms a valley tie it to a stake, when it rains place a container at the bottom of the valley to catch the rain water.

I am in Boy Scouts right now and the way we were taught to do a tripod lashing is different. Instead of wrapping around all three poles, I would wrap in the shape of a figure 8 on all three of the poles, but I still take all of the rest of the steps you used. If you have thicker diameter twine rope, it works extremely well. I know there are many ways to tie knots, so your method is as good as mine.
Since I am in BS's I have learned a lot about making shelters and and cooking food, as well as starting fires with one match or Flint-n-steel. But I have just found your channel, so now this is one of my favorites, because I can look on your videos to find new ideas or learn new things. Just before this, I watched a couple of your dugout videos and they were great. I didn't know you could do all that with a small foldable shovel.

Honestly, this is priceless. When I started waking up to the fact that the shtf at any given moment, I scrounged up what I could from what I had lying around. I had a job but most of that money went towards school supplies and helping my parents out (I was 13). So the dollar store became my go to place. Now ten years later, making decent money, I'm still paying for school supplies and helping my folks with bills (things don't suddenly change because you age sometimes) but I have enough when I save for nice gear. I'll tell you what though: fancy expensive gear ain't worth jack when you don't know how to use it. Knowledge is the one thing that will keep you alive. That and staying cool, calm, and collected.
Those knots made this video pure gold brother. Thanks for the knowledge. Goes to show my point: knowledge is key. If you really had to, the cheap gear will save you. And even when it all fails, of you got the know how you can repurpose broke gear. Keep it up!

Learned so much in the Scouts , When I joined the Army my DI asked if I wanted his job ,as I was telling guys how to set-up properly .. Told me to let them fail so they would learn . Felt bad watching men packing what once was a 70 # pack that turned into 100+ # because it was soaked by stupidity. Knowledge is Power !

sometimes the weights inside shower curtains are magnetic. you can run this magnet along a nail, float that nail on water and make a compass

Good idea. But can you please explain how to read this kind of compass where you run the magnatic weight along a nail and uss it as a compass? I also have a regular compass but never understand 100% how to use it.

Everybody needs to be a boy scout, at least be a first class. The merit badges are fun, especially if they have to do with anything survival . If you can see the stars, you ain't lost, a compass helps too tho. I went to summer camp 4 years and we always went to the " pioneer area". We camped every chance we got.
It's a learning experience for sure.
I'm a 10 yr alumni of Girl Scout Troop 11 in southern WV. We didn't screw around. Set up rough ground camps in January after 10 mile hikes into wilderness. "Pioneer area" lol.

One item that was overlooked from the dollar store that would come in handy oh so often. And of course, it involves another dollar. In the stationary section, there are metal file/paper clamps. This would be great for the shelter attachment to the ridgeline.
Also, those folding knives, once the pin either breaks and or bends so the plastic handle breaks, take the blade and cut a slit into a hardwood branch for a handle and slip that blade into the slit. You can either do a twine wrap, cordage wrap, recycled wire wrap to hold the blade rigid. That makes the blade safer to use, less likely to break and get longer use out of it for your dollar. Which also brings me to one more item. (shouldn't we just go to an expenditure of $10?) In the spring and summer months of the dollar store, they sell gardening tools. Their little pruners are great as long as you do not cut too thick a branch with it. Their garden hand trowels/shovels are very handy. And their folding branch pruning saws, while not that strong, but handy, cheap and useful. Like for cutting that slit into the end of a branch for the knife blade or for cutting small wood for cooking fires. Their seeds are from american seed company and at the Dollar Tree are 4 pkts/dollar. And they started something new, they emblazon onto the package all the seeds that are heirloom variety. This means once you have settled down and need to grow food, you can do so and then let some of each kind "go to seed" to provide you with seed for next year's garden.
If you are going to do seeds,get some that you can harvest in 2-3 weeks as opposed to a few months.

I have built kits for friends and for their college bound kids getting much of the basics including really good first aid kit items from the dollar store. Gauze, bandages, hypo allergenic tape, triple antibiotic, meds, cordage, and other items. Pack, survival tools, and other properly critical components I get from more reliable sources. But you can find nice aluminum bottles, nalgene like bottles, and as you mentioned all the items on your list. I didn't know about the seeds! Haven't seen them but will ask around. Gonna go look for that so thanks! Can buy lots of the items mentioned cheaply enough that I can use whatever budget they have on more important things. BTW the bandages, gauze, etc. are pretty decent quality. I do put brand name high quality items in as well just not as many. These are started kits and I always suggest taking what I put together and build on it. So far well received by the folks who ask. I don't sell them. Just charge for the amount spent. Items I buy in bulk I usually just throw in.

Corporal I own a Fly in Hunting and Fishing Lodge way up in Northern Canada, I been doing survival packs since I was a kid and still do to this day for my customers and myself, because I have had to put my plane down in the bush overnight many times mostly because of weather, Great ideas you have for people to get cheap survival items from the $ store, The only thing I would like to comment on is about those pack of lighters you got and are showing, The problem with those is they are hard to light and if it is a bit cooler out they dont light, plus I am a smoker for over 40 years now as well, those lighters are something I wouldn't recommend to get, because they dont work 75% of the time, You can get water proof matches at the $store or just buy a few Bic lighter they are a few bucks for a couple but are reliable and last a long time, or a Zippo lighter is the best water rain proof and wind proof, also the great thing about a Zippo is you can put any kind of fuel into them lantern oil you name it and they light, Thanks,

I'm old school on the Zippo lighter as well. Problem is a new one now can cost up to as much as $40.00. I sent one in to Zippo for repair when I was aboard ship in 1980. Never got it back.
clippers are best. they last forever, carry lots of gas and have the pokey bit for the end of your joint

I've had one of those little knives for over two years now. Yes it's cheap, and the blade will swivel once you start to lean on it with a decent amount of pressure - SO BE MINDFUL - but...two years later and it's still in my pocket right now! I don't leave the house without it. I work (labour), for an excavation company, and that knife is great for sawing through roots in awkward places that you can't get at with a spade. It grinds through soil and rocks and anything else that is in the way, and it chews through roots 2 or 3 inches in diameter. It gets jobs done that I would not want to use a good knife on. Well worth a buck or two. In fact, grab a handful of them, for that price. Great video, Corporal!!

I'll have to see how much it weighs but it dawned on me that the shower curtain could make a very good potential groundcloth. I prefer to use a drinking straw for a eye dropper but love the idea you have also.

This setup is useless and requires a lot of manual dexterity with your fingers. Try doing anything like this when you are cold and wet.

Bear proof compared to what? Trust me, a tent or tarp isn't going to protect you from a bear either. If you you're trusting those to deter bears or avoid encountering them do yourself a favor and stay in the city.
would be a good waterproof liner for a debris shelter or a lean to. So cheap that if you forgot to recover it it wouldn't matter much.
Consider in lieu of an eyedropper, putting the sodium hypochlorite into the bottletop, then dipping your finger into the sodium hypochlorite and tapping your dipped finger to release one drop at a time. The final drop doesn't require tapping if the water bottle is reasonably full and your finger stretches down to the water level. It also serves to more thoroughly cleanse the fingertip and could be done with several fingertips in sequence, according to how many drops you need to add to the water.

First thing first, sorry for my English. Second thing, i always thought the same. Third thing, at last i found a survivalist with brain and the skill of improvisation. BUT most important thing, all those items can be a survival kit overseas. that is an aspect other survivalist forget. You can find these in every hypermarket, supermarket ....something market. Other aspect, i will not limit at those 5 dollars, but nor a lot of money either because i found a good folding knife with aluminum handle at 6 dollars in a supermarket. Last thing, a transparent shower curtain and a windproof lighter with piezoelectric firing, i`ll thought are better.

Whenever I see someone write or hear them speak in English and it isn't perfect, I remind myself what that likely means - they know more languages than myself and can communicate with more people! Good on you. Hope it isn't too late for me to pick up at least a second language...
If it's a regular lighter, you can still use the spark to light a fire after the fuel runs out. If you use piezoelectric lighters, you don't get the same benefit.

Those Scripto lighters From dollar Tree are much much better than the average cheapo lighter. I never had a failure with one.
The only problem with them is they do not work when wet.
They don't work that great in extreme cold either.

The biggest problem of had with no name lighters is that a certain percentage of them leak. You go to use them and they are empty.

In an apocalypse, I'm taking shelter at the dollar store. They have so much crap that could actually be really useful. Add that it is an existing structure, I'm sure I could find some way to secure it, and if you get a group of people you can increase survival chances.

Dakota Lally ...already picked out my spot...Food Lion 10 minutes away...along with a pizzeria, a Subway, 2 dollar stores, and a vape shop( no need to go without during the apocalypse)...they also carry 18650 batteries that are rechargeable(short 'em with steel wool...firestarter)...there's a nail salon there for those necessary mani-pedi sessions...comfort, food, fire...good shit!

I've been rocking with dollar store parachord and tarp a couple nights a week all summer long with no complaints. It's been flying just a couple feet above my raised fire pit with no I'll effect. I'm starting to see that one of the grommets will fall out soon but that's no surprise. These with a five dollar stainless bottle from Giant Tiger a Buck 119 and fire steel from Amazon have been the core components of a highly enjoyable season. About 80 bucks well spent.
