A few people I know that work at the animal shelter said one time a family sent their male German Shepherd dog to the shelter after the family said the dog got really depressed from the dogs best friend which was a 3 year old cat that died from FIP. The family said they was always together ever since the cat was a little tiny kitten and they played and slept together all the time. The dog got so happy when the family showed up over 8 months later to the animal shelter but they wasn't there to get their dog back and instead they got another dog which was a small Chihuahua and as soon as they left that male German Shepherd became severely depressed making cry sounds constantly for days on end to the point that he wouldn't eat at all and rarely would drinks water and then the male German Shepherd died just 5 days later after seeing his family reject him for another dog. It's just so sad because the dog was doing perfectly fine for 8 months and then dies in just 5 days after being rejected by his family....

My mom's dog got depressed after her other dog died, she didnt get rid of him, just more attention, had to tell her to stop giving him extra treats cuz he started getting fat.

My dog was a rescue from a family member that got the dog from a rescue place! Because their other dog passed away suddenly and wanted another one to eventually getting board with the dog and leaving the dog In his cage 247 only to come out to go to the bathroom and groomed! He barely got any attention! One day I was up at their house and they said they had a dog to get rid of! I saw the dog and fell in love with him he was a beautiful white and brown Pomeranian! I couldn’t just leave him so the next day I took him home! The poor guy didn’t even know his own name nothing they were also giving him huge big dog food! I took him home and now he has the best life ever he sleeps with me and everything! His life sure changed for the better! I don’t understand how people can be so cruel and heartless everytime I think about losing my fur baby that turned 7 in March I start to cry he is my baby my everything I love Him to death! I would do anything for him!
My dog fell into a depression when she suddenly went blind, nothing made us want to give up on her. Even when she woke me up late at night bc of her panic attacks (she would be so scared and confused cause she couldnt see anymore), how they can just abandon their dog after their dog got depressed over another dogs death is beyond me, that is the most pathetic excuse i have ever heard. My blind dog is still a happy little angel and she even plays fetch with balls! She follows the sound of the ball bouncing and goes after it, if my dog can become happy after that i know their dog could’ve and would’ve eventually, they just didn’t want to wait or put any effort in, they don’t deserve another dog.

My GF passed away a couple months ago and my dog seems depressed. You know what I do? I love the heck out of him. Dogs have emotions, the fact that the owners took note that their dog was depressed after their other dog passed away tells me they have no business owning a dog. They see them as a living decoration to their house and nothing more.

I live in New York state and I know that the Niagara County and Erie County SPCAs will not allow you to adopt an animal if you have ever surrendered one there they will check your information in the system..I know a lot of animal rescuers will not let you take an animal from them if you've ever given them an animal either..
I'm not sure if I agree with that if you surrender them for a good reason (like if they're fighting with an existing pet to the point you fear one of them will be injured or killed), but in a case like this, they absolutely should.

Hmm.. I think giving someone else the opportunity to care for your animal is better than keeping it in improper conditions because you don't want to be blacklisted. If you *do* come back for another animal that's the same species you just gave up they should so a check to be SURE you can care for it and keep a closer eye on how its doing (like having you send pics of them every so often, or having someone visit them once or twice after a while) Blacklisting can cause people to dump their animals on the streets because it gives them a reason not to directly bring them to the safety of the shelter
The shittiest part about this is the dog will never forget their old family and always miss them. My aunt adopted my grandmas dog when she died and while happy he’s been caught a few times sneaking out and walking down the street to her old house, looking for her.

We adopted two dogs from the shelter and when one passed away the other got depressed. So we got him a puppy. Time went by and our other older dog passed away, so we adopted the puppy another dog. You don't give away a depressed dog. And you sure in hell don't replace them! You get them a new friend!

Here in Utah if an adoption center or rescue notices any type of neglect, abuse, or if you give your animal away without letting the shelter or rescue centers know. They will put you on a NO ADOPTION LIST, and call the cops. They don't make you adopt an animal. If this shelter was smart they should of called the cops and told them no they can not have another dog, and BANNED them from getting another animal.
They should have shown those awful people on camera so they could be shunned by everyone. Imagine them going to a restaurant after that--and being refused service.

When the so called owners came, well you can see and read the story.Those stupid owners should comfort her and not her stay at the kill shelter. Imagine if you had siblings that yours died and as a result of the depression you were in due to grief, your parents decided to send you away to a shelter, then they come to the shelter one day after all the emotions of abandonment by them, just to realize they came to take another child home instead of you.... because that's exactly what this dog was put through by their actions.

My dog was a rescue from a family member that got the dog from a rescue place! Because their other dog passed away suddenly and wanted another one to eventually getting board with the dog and leaving the dog In his cage 247 only to come out to go to the bathroom and groomed! He barely got any attention! One day I was up at their house and they said they had a dog to get rid of! I saw the dog and fell in love with him he was a beautiful white and brown Pomeranian! I couldn’t just leave him so the next day I took him home! The poor guy didn’t even know his own name nothing they were also giving him huge big dog food! I took him home and now he has the best life ever he sleeps with me and everything! His life sure changed for the better! I don’t understand how people can be so cruel and heartless everytime I think about losing my fur baby that turned 7 in March I start to cry he is my baby my everything I love

My dog fell into a depression when she suddenly went blind, nothing made us want to give up on her. Even when she woke me up late at night bc of her panic attacks (she would be so scared and confused cause she couldnt see anymore), how they can just abandon their dog after their dog got depressed over another dogs death is beyond me, that is the most pathetic excuse i have ever heard. My blind dog is still a happy little angel and she even plays fetch with balls! She follows the sound of the ball bouncing and goes after it, if my dog can become happy after that i know their dog could’ve and would’ve eventually, they just didn’t want to wait or put any effort in, they don’t deserve another dog.

My GF passed away a couple months ago and my dog seems depressed. You know what I do? I love the heck out of him. Dogs have emotions, the fact that the owners took note that their dog was depressed after their other dog passed away tells me they have no business owning a dog. They see them as a living decoration to their house and nothing more.

I live in New York state and I know that the Niagara County and Erie County SPCAs will not allow you to adopt an animal if you have ever surrendered one there they will check your information in the system..I know a lot of animal rescuers will not let you take an animal from them if you've ever given them an animal either..

I'm not sure if I agree with that if you surrender them for a good reason (like if they're fighting with an existing pet to the point you fear one of them will be injured or killed), but in a case like this, they absolutely should.

Hmm.. I think giving someone else the opportunity to care for your animal is better than keeping it in improper conditions because you don't want to be blacklisted. If you *do* come back for another animal that's the same species you just gave up they should so a check to be SURE you can care for it and keep a closer eye on how its doing (like having you send pics of them every so often, or having someone visit them once or twice after a while)
Blacklisting can cause people to dump their animals on the streets because it gives them a reason not to directly bring them to the safety of the shelter

We adopted two dogs from the shelter and when one passed away the other got depressed. So we got him a puppy. Time went by and our other older dog passed away, so we adopted the puppy another dog. You don't give away a depressed dog. And you sure in hell don't replace them! You get them a new friend!

Here in Utah if an adoption center or rescue notices any type of neglect, abuse, or if you give your animal away without letting the shelter or rescue centers know. They will put you on a NO ADOPTION LIST, and call the cops. They don't make you adopt an animal. If this shelter was smart they should of called the cops and told them no they can not have another dog, and BANNED them from getting another animal.
They should have shown those awful people on camera so they could be shunned by everyone. Imagine them going to a restaurant after that--and being refused service.
