Planning to move to Des Moines from the Netherlands in about 2 years from now... i got a daughter with special needs, is in the autistic spectrum , would love to have a house with an all around porch or possibility to build that.... i was walking a trail yesterday and saw an amazing hoise that looks to be empty close to the train track at Plleasant Hill, at the end of a dead end street that i totally fell in love with!!! Close to Christi Lane Woodlands trail...

Iowa's public education has fallen from #1 to #7 due to the massive budget cuts made by Governor Terry Branstad. Iowa has a massive 36% recidivism rate in its prison system since it spend the least amount of the state's budget on inmate care, housing, education, and so on. Men who are discharged from prison are worse off than they were when the bars were slammed behind them. Many lawsuits are being filed against the Iowa Department of Corrections because Warden William Sperfslage allowed his prison staff to victimize the inmates in Iowa's largest male prison of sex crimes.
100% honest, you seem to be very versed in the topic of Iowa Prison system, I've never heard that, but Havent went out to see the data. Thanks for sharing. Regarding schools, I've heard a lot of negative lately for Iowa schools, but I struggle to trust any sources on the data because they all seem to have an agenda that I don't trust. What I'm seeing in school systems is that the local school board is SOOOOOO important, in what makes a school, a school that I feel good about. I continue to keep my ears open to what others are saying.

I actually disagree, yes there are more than 10 yrs ago, but its not that bad, especially compared to other cities.

While I don't disagree with the negative points, they are minor inconveniences rather than mind-changers. The major drawback to Iowa seems to me to be the absence of intellectual/cultural diversity. And that's due mostly to the small population and limited range of occupational and cultural choices. Like much of the Midwest the state is an enormous cornfield interrupted here and there by small trading centers and a few urban settlements.
Maybe we run in different circles, i can understand that Iowa does move at a slower pace than most of the country but lack of intellectual diversity? eh.. I'm goign to disagree on a topic that has no facts or data behind it. Unless you can share with me why or how you can say that.
