  • Learning how to target only chub. That was my very first attempt to catch chub only. I was using top water lure replicating bug and i had success. Chub wasn't too big but as for the first time i achievd my target to catch chub. Very enjoyable type of fishing, dynamics are similar to trout fishing - lots of walking, wading, active fishing plus ability to see how chub is taking lure from top of the water - just incredible. It is my learning process, hope you learned something too if you are new in that type of fishing. If you are not new - hope you enjoed watching. Tight Lines my Friends

    Awesome Gedis, and yes you “did good” It’s not about how many fish, it about how you caught them and the enjoyment of catching them.
    Watching and anticipating surface takes is really exciting and gets the adrenaline going, and as you say, it is similar to fly fishing.
    Did you notice that most of your success came from fast into deep and well oxygenated water like at the weir!! They are the best places
    for catching as the fish congregate there and have less time to think about the lure. I enjoyed being a part of another great fishing
    adventure. Nice that you are being considerate towards your newly born son. He’ll be joining you in no time at all. Phil

      You are so right - process and enjoyment is that what counts 😁
      Specially trying new for me fishing method and be able to see top water attacks - incredible 😁🎣
      Yeah i noticed that similar like with trout - more success where shallow, bubbling water, where fish had no time to investigate what they're eating.
      Always my pleasure to take You along 🤝 and can't wait to take my son to firs adventure 😁🎣🎣🎣

    Great video
    I'm not the world's best at this type of fishing but would make a couple of comments
    Don't worry about the splash when the lure hits the water I've watced Chub in clear shallow water turn towards it to investigate
    I noticed a comment about wire traces If you use one just about any lure will sink I've a couple that even a link swivel is too much
    Keep trying This kind of fishing is great fun

      Thanks 🤝🎣 never tried Chubby ssr as i never targeted just chub. Already waiting for order to arrive from Lithuania 😅 shame that in longer distance even them are diving a bit. But i hope they will be working properly. This Salmo lure is losing balance so often, frustrating to fish with. Do u know any lures for chub which would stay on top of the water even in longer casts?
      Thanks again 😁🤝🎣

    • @Domizzzzzzz
      @Domizzzzzzz Před 2 lety +1

      @@ManAndRod I didn't use many lures, but I guess Chubby is still the best option, as it will be on the surface 90% of the time, I myself fish in Neris (with a 1.8m trout rod) so on the further casts it stays under water for a bit, but if your rod is like over 2m or the casts are a bit shorter it should do the job, also for me sometimes it goes on the side, but only if the hook interferes with its work. (if it goes on the ''lip'' or the line, like with all the wobblers)
      I guess more experience Chub fisherman would have more info regarding the lures that stay on the surface.
      Tsuyoki is good cheaper alternative for Chubby, but it will not be on the surface a lot, as it dives 5-10cm.
      Overall for me all the ''Bug'' lures sometimes lose balance, which is really annoying, and all the SSRS have many ''Empty'' attacks, personally I hook 1/7~ fish on a ssr (I am using single hooks tho), and as I said, not experienced enough to give you more info, as I still prefer SR wobblers if it is possible to use them.

    • @ManAndRod
      @ManAndRod  Před 2 lety

      Brilliant 😁 thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. You don't need to be professional or super master to be able to share your experience. Everything what you said makes sense and is very helpful. Specially when you are using very similar equipment. My rod is 1.83 😁
      I thought that fishing with SSR lures will bring mainly empty attacks but that's absolutely fine. I'm ready to sacrifice some for being able to see those attacks. It's just awesome to see action on top of the water 😁
      I have one SR but most places will be grown with tall grasses and will be impossible to use diving lures. In most of the places i will be able to use only SSR.
      Thanks you very much 😁🤝💪👍🎣

      @Domizzzzzzz Před 2 lety +1

      @@ManAndRod Oh lol the attacks are amazing to see.
      SSR might pick up some weeds with treble hooks as well, so single hooks is a good option, but overall,

      @ManAndRod  Před 2 lety +1

      Truly amazing top water attacks.
      I'm planning to change into single hooks anyway as they're doing less damage to fish. And if it helps with weeds - double win 😁

  • @paulharris6886

    Change the treble to in-line single. Less chance of hook tangling with leader, snagging weed and kinder to fish (no double lip hooking). Grease the leader too so it floats rather than sinks, like fly fishing. Enjoy yourself!

    • @ManAndRod
      @ManAndRod  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for advice 🤝🎣 I will change to single hooks as i do for trout. Awesome to do less damage to fish and at the same time less snagging weeds. Never heard about greasing leeder - thanks a lot for a tip. Brilliant 🤝💪 what should i grease with, any specific oil would be better?

      @@ManAndRod Salmo LIL BUG is effective downstream of the river on a taut line, it is a natural behavior in nature. Large chubs are more likely to eat such food.
      Basically the idea is that the water current sets the lure by itself, then it is the most natural behavior of the lure.
      This definitely increases the effectiveness.
      Good luck, and I wish you a 60cm chub on the rod.
