- I've been lucky enough to have been playing the beautiful new entry of the Blue Reflection series Blue Reflection: Second Light recently and this, along with watching the Blue Reflection Ray anime in my free time and a recent Famitsu article got me thinking a lot about whether it's newcomer-friendly or not, so I decided make this video! I hope it's helpful, let me know your Blue Reflection thoughts in the comments!

I've been interested in the series for a while, but just haven't gotten around to it due to prioritizing other games on my backlog. The anime seems to be the easiest entry point for me at this point and will definitely add it to my queue. I really appreciate the new comer perspective you did for this video as it clarified some questions I had.
I completed the first game 2 or so years ago and kept up with the anime so I'm really excited to play Second Light, especially with the other MC's having a cross over with this one. Gives me a sort of Trails vibe in a way.
I love how you always manage to pack so much information in videos like this! Thank you 💙 I've restarted BR 1 yesterday (stopped playing halfway through my first time) and I'm enjoying so much. I can't wait to play SL!
Thank you for watching and your kind words 😊💙 I hope you enjoy the rest of the first one and Second Light after! (I wanna try play them back to back sometime too, I’m sure it will be fun :D)
Great info. Was thinking about picking this up but didn't know if I should jump in here. Thank you for clearing that up!
now this is a game im having big hopes for since the first game had so much great ideas and game mechanics that if the sequel builds upon past stuff this can be an amazing jrpg
I am so hype to finally play Second Light, I loved the first game and anime and I loved the demo!!
I’ll be starting with Second Light bc I’m all about playing it on the go! So excited to enjoy it and hope it does well. I’m sure it’ll have a very cult following.
Yes, I *will* get Blue Reflection: Second Light, it was my most anticipated game this year and now it's almost here. I've watched Blue Reflection Ray from beginning to end and I also played the demo, I can't help it when it comes to the Blue Reflection franchise, and of course, I'll play the game very soon, specifically the PS4 version.
Thanks for this! For some reason I had thought the anime was an adaptation of the game so I'm now working my way through the first game quick. Played the demo for Second Light and really enjoyed it so can't wait to dive in.
the sad part of the second light is hinako lost her cape on her reflector transformation and secondly the ending, I'm not going to spoil the second light ending but for me it's definately worth to play and progress through the end.
and also.... shiho best girl btw xD
I have the collectors edition pre ordered. I don't usually go for collectors editions but I really enjoyed the 1st game so I wanted to show some support. It would be nice for gust to keep the series going alongside atelier
Absolutely! I can already say I'd confidently play a third console release for the series :D
Good to know! I beat the first game, but have only watched the first three episodes of the anime so I still need to find time for that. I’m just going to jump into Second Light for sure since it came a day early for me.
This was super helpful and good~ I'm personally in such a weird spot where... I technically know the general plot to the first game but haven't actually finished playing it myself. I really want to play BR2 though especially with it being out on the switch... and since I do know what happens in the first game I guess I might as well jump into the second one and finish the first later. The anime is something on my watchlist though~
My backlog is insane right now though with wrapping up some Atelier games but I really do love the magical girl and slice of life stories that the Blue Reflection universe has.
Thank you for another good video~ it's always so exciting and fun to listen to your insight haha.
Playing the demo at the moment but definitely will be getting this 💜 still playing the first one but loving it
Awesome! I hope you enjoy both ^___^
I played the first game but wasn't sure if I needed to watch the anime or not so thank you for addressing that. There's few people actually talking about this series.
I never finished Blue Reflections on ps4, mostly because it got hard keeping me invested with the repetition. Second looks like a much more interesting game so I think I can get past the spoilers. Love the review! Very informative!
I've not really watched the anime but the game looks interesting, not really into the whole magical girl thing but I've heard good things about this series.
I don't know, but a bit of me feels that it may be "too simple", "subpar", or "lacking in impact".
Maybe I must be overthinking things.
its advisable to have the prior knowledge and understanding from first game and anime before playing this..
the lore gets built on and expanded through each title
Going by the demo, absolutely :D
I love Blue reflection second light I'm playing now awesome video🦋🙂🦋
Platinumed the first game on Steam in January after finally figuring out a way to make it run; this was before word of the Blue Reflection series next entries. I almost cried when they'll revealed; thinking it was never going to happen let alone an anime along with it. I'm so hype for Second light and happy to hear it's decent. I enjoyed the anime so much, all I need to now is wait for the game itself. Fingers crossed I get it before December Australia Post is being frustrating at the moment, everything has slowed down to a crawl.
Oh dear about Australia Post, I hope they sort it out too, and definitely before December, that's too long to wait if you've already ordered it :3 in any case, I'm sure you'll enjoy it a lot when you play it :D
@@JRPGJungle ...it's been months. Shop owners are worried they won't meet demand for Christmas. It's been on the news now and again.
Ah perfect!! Thank you!
I really want to play this game even though I didn't play the first one. I played the demo and really enjoyed it but my backlog of games keeps increasing. I'm still working through caligula effect 2.
It's here, guys! IT IS FINALLY HERE ♥
Im so glad that blue reflection second light seems to be very good from what you've said. And that makes me super happy since I loved the first game (but couldnt finish it. I live in a hotel right now trying to find a home so I dont have my ps4 with me its in storage) so it might be awhile before I get to pick up the game. But I cant wait for your review and am excited to buy it when I get the chance to. I wanted to get crystar too.
Is it wrong to quietly be more hyped for this than for Shin Megami Tensei V?
As that is what the demo definitely done for me. So Intrigued by it all and excited to play. The characters seem really endearing.
I did not know anything about blue reflection but the game looks good!
I absolutely loved the first game but I'll be perfectly honest, I had to drop the anime. Barely any mention of the Sephirot, slow pacing, boring motives, characters from the first game are merely mentioned but seem to have zero relevance in the story. IDK if any of this changed after episode 13 but I just couldn't continue. I'm glad the second game doesn't make it absolutely mandatory that you need to have watched the anime prior.
Great video! Im gladly surprised with 2nd light, it's better than the first one.
I like it a lot already! 😍
It’s so good :’D 💙
Dang, another JRPG to put on the never ending stack XD.
I played the first game and the I have seen the anime. The anime picked up a lot in the second half and is really worth finishing. So, I have been looking forward to this second game. I will be downloading it almost immediately (ie in an hour?). I will be playing it in parallel with Caligula Effect 2 and I think this is going to be great fun.
Is the anime intended to fill in storyline between the first game and the second? Wondering if I should watch it first.
Sounds like great fun :) hope you enjoy!
I already installed the game (played the first one too), but only have seen a few parts of the animation. I hope the game will not spoil the animation or vice-versa. Sadly - As I am a PC gamer solely I cannot play Caligula Effect 2, witch is a shame because I really liked the first one (Caligula Effect Overdose version that was released on the PC). A shame really...
Anyway - At least I have the second Blue reflection now, so I am at least happy for that. And it's nice to know at least the main character from the first game will make an appearance. I don't know if there are more, but I certainly going to find out ;-)
@@surfingconcrete Its a different story and it seems to be before/parallel with the anime
@@DavidRBrown7 So there is no need to watch it first or play second light first, but either may flesh out or slightly spoil the other, is that accurate?
I'm lucky to own a copy of the original, though I still haven't played it yet (the backlog is rough ;~;) but I'm still excited for Second Light, it looks so good!
But man, this, SMTV and the new Pokemon games being so close together is a crime against my wallet @[]@
Yeah, it is near some very big releases isn't it? :3 I hope people still pick it up, but yeah, I had to choose between this or SMTV timewise 😅
@@JRPGJungle I definitely still have things to finish before getting to either, but I'm looking forward to both. I just hope Second Light doesn't balloon in price the same way the original did 😭
I actually prefer Ao as the female protagonist in this game, I think she is a much cooler protagonist than the original. Although I like her too I just like Ao more
Thank you, this video really helpful to make my decision to buy this game
I love it the demo as well, really interesting game especially with some uhm... Yuri fan fiction 😆
Blue reflection ray is not exactly a prequel.
while its starting events in the story happens before/during the first game. the main timeline of the ray anime happens after the first game
The 1st Blue Reflection is unobtanium nowadays. Dang it!!!!!
I guess I'm very old fashion but I hate what they are doing modifying the turn base formula which started with Ryza. Preordered the game and currently playing the demo, if I don't get used to the convoluted dynamic system (with no real pause between turns) I will probably return it.
They only thing that the original was missing was to be more challenging, include more boss fights.
They coulda taken the suppression mechanics in the first game and transplanted it into a bog-standard initiative-based, round-based turn based tactics game, one wherein one is forced between choosing to suppress enemies to buy time to do something or kill the enemies faster, and it woulda been much better.
I'm not a fan of Hiori's Reflector outfit, but her victory pose and level up pose are fire.
Def a buy
Correct me if I'm wrong please. So you are saying that if we have the time, the chronological timeline would be the anime blue reflection ray followed by the first game then this one the sequel to that?
Chronologically, basically yes. However, I’ve finished the anime now and would say the first game actually makes the events and timeline in the anime a little clearer (and spoils less), so I would say first game, anime then sequel is probably best for most people (and it’s the order of release so yeah :3). Hope that helps!
@@JRPGJungle k thank you so much!! *Like!
ok i was wondering if any of the characters from the first game will be in this one , thanks for that but what lime and yuzu?
@Brigade Leader Haruhi Suzumiya yeah i beat the game lol. great game thanks though
@Brigade Leader Haruhi Suzumiya yeah i played both games but i haven't watched the anime. i will check it out when i get the chance
My copy just arrived today! I got the CE from NIS America. But when I opened it there was a weird spot that looked like it was made to hold a cd. Kinda bummed about that. Look forward to playing it after I finish Voice of Cards.
I wonder what happened there, yes a bit of bummer! 🤔 If you think it's a mistake, definitely worth mentioning to their customer support (although I saw there was no listing for a CD on the website, so yeah, a little strange :33). Regardless, I hope you enjoy the game (I'm getting to Voice of Cards once I finished Second Light so I hope you're enjoying that too :D)
@@JRPGJungle I find it very charming! I can’t wait to see your take on it.
Also, is there a photo mode?
There is! I’m having too much fun with it :33
i like the game. I know Is not for everybody. but i enjoy seeing cute girls having a good Time together
why not just play the first game though? I could understand jumping in at Trails of Cold Steel III(even though I don't wanna support NISA) because thats the 6th or 8th(depending on if you count Crossbell arc) and its the third game in its arc, but surely people can jump in with one game and move to the other?
💜💕🥰
Just finished streaming the 1st one ending was so sad ;////////; 💙💛💚 just need to watch the show then get 2nd light
Play it now chapter 5. Game is very easy in normal mode. Sadly can't play hard mode in first playthrough.
Howis blue reflection looks good
I loved it! I have a review on my channel for it, but if you like the look of the magical girl stuff and like social mechanics, I’d recommend it :D
A little rough around the edges but still a decent game, the OST is amazing. People have issues with the level of fan service which I can understand.
Aesthetics? Certainly. Everything else? Fine, I suppose. Probably fine on its own. Not so much in the face of other turn-based tactics games.
I need to look up the story on these games and see if I have any interest. Need to find the non spoiler plot for them.
This game is better than the first.
This is artemelico but with more magical girls
Ar tonelico was great. The last one was the best.I wish they made more.
There's romance in this game?
Man really like you magical girls????
Was there any games before that
The only games in the series right now are the first Blue Reflection game and now Second Light as the sequel. There will be a smartphone game in future (not announced for the west yet) that connects, but other than that and the anime, there are no other games in the series :3
I saw all of Ray and a long story is just codespeak for plotholes.
Get this game now, before it ends up being $100 like the first one
Ehhh I tried playing the demo but found it very boring. It is a shitty iseaki anime with good gameplay and music.
I wanted to get into the series but I just can't support censorship because then other things start getting censored and people just are okay with it so they keep doing it
Ah perfect!! Thank you!
