The disrespect from McManama is unreal, Netherlands is not a good team but a decent team. So a team that got into a semi final is not a good team? The team that Argentina only beat with penalties at the last world cup really? At least Netherlands lost in the last world cup on penalties vs major teams (Argentina twice) than england who lost before penalties vs Croatia and France. England hasn't won anything since 66, be humble. In the last 40 years Netherlands got on average further than England.

The reason; McManaman is a knobhead.
England have been better as of recent, 3 semi finals in 4 major tournaments + a tight quarter vs France. Netherlands are a decent team, they aren't a top team like Spain, France, Portugal, Germany. Netherlands haven't really been very good in this tournament either, they've rode their luck quite a bit. Third in the group when they played Poland without Lewandowski, France without Mbappe, lost to Austria, a result that flattered them vs Romania & a pretty close game vs Turkey who also had one of their most important/best players suspended. There is an overall difference of quality player for player between Netherlands and England, on paper it's very obvious who should win - but both teams have been poor so pretty much anything can happen and nobody is saying otherwise.

The opposition England have played, and mostly will play, do not have a squad with the depth of England. Secondly, you have the option of making tactical as well as personnel adjustments to counter any of the opponents moves. Football at a high level is a tad chess like, and most fans expect to see a Man City vs Sheffield Utd result, which rarely happens. England are happy to wear down the opposition, knowing also that most replacements offer the same quality.
Add that most goals are scored because of defensive mistakes and not genius play, England have a good winning formula. Not pretty but proven effective. Germany in 90', Brasil in 94', or Italy (in any tournament) were very similar. The "try not to lose" tactic.

But each team has been able to penetrate and get very good chances on goal, itâs just pure luck and a bit of poor finishing from lower ranked teams that have seen us scrape the games to get us where we are. If I were Netherlands I would go all out attack against England. Southgate's team has been utterly toothless going forward as evident by having just 2 shots on targets in the last 180-min regular game time. The Netherlands can win by 2+ goals if they keep on attacking England.

I suddenly remembered the 2010 World Cup semi final between Spain and Germany. Spain just passed and passed and passed the ball through the entire game and bored me to death. I think I dozed off halfway through. Then, there was the 2022 World Cup final between France and Argentina, wow!!! I don't know what I am trying to say.

I believe they underestimate the Dutch. England had a lot of problems with teams like Slovakia. And Serbia was their only real win in the groupstage. If they donât step up they will lose. It will not depend on Southgate but fully on the players. I only saw some slight improvement against the Swiss. But it is not enough.
