Keanu took EXTENSIVE gun training to learn how to handle and shoot a gun. I think he did all the stunts himself for Wick.
About 85-90%. Everything the film production insurance would allow.
He has stated he won't do the car hits...otherwise he's down to do his own stunts
@@MaRodney07 Certain stunts he wasn't allowed to do because the insurance wouldn't allow it. An example is the fall from the second deck in the nightclub.
He did action himself not stunts..
One of the people that trained him to handle the guns for this movie later commented in an interview that he found it , quote "Scary!" how Keanu could reload a weapon with such ease, speed and finesse, even better than many other experts than he knew.
John breaking the foundation of his new life, the basement floor, to re-enter his old life, the weapons and coins. It's such good symbolism, it's friggin' poetry.

The scene with Francis at the night club is so good. John didn't let Francis live because he didn't fight back. Francis gave him information. John asked if Francis had lost weight and Francis said that he lost 60 lbs. 60 lbs. is 27 kilograms and since Francis is Russian he would tell John that he lost 27 kilograms. Guess how many guards were in the club? That's right, 27, so John let Francis go, because now he knew what he was up against.
Holy crap I never knew that.
Now I'm that much more amazed at John's math skill than his Gun-Fu.

Several interesting facts:
1. The directors were the lead stunt people and stunt doubles for Keanu in "The Matrix".
2. They smeared bacon grease on Keanu's face to get Daisy to lick him awake.
3. Ian McShane was also in "Game of Thrones" for just one or two episodes in season 5 or 6 - he played the priest who helped The Hound recover after his fight with Brienne of Tarth.
4. Keanu was running a fever the day they shot the nightclub fight, and he learned the moves for the fight that same day.
5. The lighting gives clues as to John's current situation - red, he's in danger, blue, he's in control, purple, it could go either way.
The director was brandon Lee's stunt double in the crow.

I always thought he did excellent acting just using his body - so that's probably why the actors in John Wick did such a great job using their bodies as a part of the acting too.
You forgot to mention the doctor who stitches John up is the Key maker from the Matrix films.
Also, Keanu reading the wife's letter carries a heavy punch as he lost a pregnant wife early on in his career. 😱

Stuntmen are among the most skilled martial artists in the world, and their lives are LITERALLY pain.
These guys apparently sat down, these madlad super chads, and made up John Wick and the story.
Some of the most powerful, strong-willed men on the earth.
"What do we do to hurt this man we've made, this mortal god, this 'being' we've created who's in a way like us... he's not unstoppable, he keeps going through the pain. How do we hurt him?"
They take away the love of his life, and his last and most enduring living gift from her for his soul...

I mean the point in the film as well though is its not even just a beloved pet, its the last token of his dead wifes love for him and the one spark of light he has still in a a really dark time... Im a pretty chilled out guy but honestly in that situation I think 'murder ramapage' would be pretty much a reflex :P

This movie does such a great job of revealing using "show don't tell." From the idea of the gold coins as a unique currency for favors/services, to the whole world of assassins where even the police are in the know and don't bother them as long as it stays in their world, to the actual identity of John Wick. I can't think of another movie where the main character is such a mystery and we as the audience don't even realize it at the start.
One of my favorite details, the dog he saves at the end, not only was it due to be put down, but they walk off at the exact same place his wife collapses at the start of the film.
This movie never get old always learning something new
That’s what I figured, is cops are given basic info on the assassins in their local area and are essentially told to steer clear and not bother with it unless it comes out blatantly into the public.
Gun/tactical guys really loved this movie due to the realism. There was no "unlimited ammo" in this and it actually showed him correctly reloading.
I mean realism still is a pretty far stretch for John Wick xD

@@wepntech if you mean the fight in two, I thought it was actually fairly realistic, definitely more than most male/female fight scenes. It's very clear from watching that he's much stronger than her which is why she pulls a knife, and he still doesn't have that much trouble with her.
The videos showing Keanu training for these movies are just as entertaining as the movie itself. He's a beast.
@@gggallin8279 Realism for any movie like this is obviously a stretch. It's also sometimes a reason why these movies can be good. However, I would say they did fairly well without being ridiculous for modern film. No one is going to buy it if someone gets blown 15 feet in the air by a round from a revolver (films have done things like this before lol).
Did you realize the end shot where he and the pitty were walking is the same place where his wife collapsed?! Symbolizing his life changing (wife dies) and new life/mourning(walking away with the puppy from the shelter). It’s an incredible movie!

When Viggo called Aurelio to demand why he struck his son and said "Oh." I thought "Alright this is going to be an awesome action movie!" Usually the head bad guy is an overconfident prick at the beginning of these movies and finds out the hard way but the first time we see Viggo he's already playing defense.
The delivery on that was so good, he didn't actually say "Oh fuck.", but it sounded like he did.
It wasn't about avenging the dog. It was about avenging his wife.
That puppy was her last act of love toward him. Her dying wish, that he learn to go on, and to remain happy and able to love others. She loved him, and married him, because she knew him as more than a killer. And we see that in the first part of the movie. His devotion, his sincerity, his pain at her loss, and his absolute confusion over what his life is without her. And she already had thought ahead and planned for it, for his sake. Because she loved him just as much.
And those assholes destroyed it.
They didn't just kill a puppy. They killed the last piece of his wife's love he would ever have.
And they killed literally the most adorable puppy that has ever graced this planet. So...yeah, that's still pretty worthy of vengeance anyway.
Willem DaFoe is just so damn good in this. Obviously Keanu is incredible, but DaFoe really deserves a huge amount of credit.
So, to answer your questions: We don't actually know anything about John's life before he became part of The High Table Society, but as a contract killer in the Society he made a name for himself. Thus why everyone knows him on sight. And as Viggo said, when he wanted out, he was given an impossible task, and he completed it. He's the man you send to kill the Boogeyman!
Viggo giving up his son at the end was the only option he had to stay alive. If he refused, John would have simply shotgunned Viggo in the face, and hunted Iosef down anyway.
Viggo at the end of the movie is so chill because he's completely stoned. We saw him roll a joint and light it up while John was tearing the safehouse apart, and I'd bet what he lit up in the car wasn't tobacco.
And yeah, John let Viggo stab him somewhere he'd already been cut open, so he already knows that's an area that can withstand the damage without him bleeding out quickly. And he let him break Viggo's arm and get control of the knife.
Edit: Oh! And Perkins wasn't killed because she attempted to kill John. She killed Harry for no reason but to get out, that's why she was thrown out like ripped laundry at the Continental.
Also, she destroyed one of the pillows, and probably the mattress too. That's a lot of scratch, yo.
Well killing John is also a reason that's doing business on continental grounds you do that and you die so attempting to kill John and killing Harry marked her for death since she broke the rules on company grounds

Something I like about this movie is that John doesn't let Iosef talk when he kills him. A lot of movies let characters monologue during the final battle but John just shoots him in the head mid sentence
And no "cool/funny" phrase before he shoots. Just pulls the trigger, job done, and walks away.
Shows how little John thought of Iosef there, like taking out the trash or swatting an insect.
Or putting down a rabid dog.
That is the one great thing I like about Keanu Reaves in these movies is the amount of training he went for the role. He spent countless time at gun ranges training with various weapons he used in the movies to the point where it is highlighted him tracking ammo count and reloading where required. He is truly someone who commits everything to a role and ensures he fully lives up to it.
Keanu did not realize it, but the role was made for him, someone who zagged where Keanu zigged. Both are the same person with different experiences and circumstances but at their core, they are men of focus, commitment, and willpower all aimed at whatever their objective is. Men who loved so wholly and completely that the world seemed to have gone mad when they lost the one they loved.
The music, colors, and little things throughout this movie is amazing. You caught on quickly regarding the lighting and the sound.
The video ended abruptly while giving your opinion on the movie but its great to see you enjoyed it and your commentary enhanced the experience 👌

the one movie where the reason of the movie was immediately established. no frills. When I saw this in the theaters, i think the whole theater collectively screamed at the screen.

6:51 he's someone you most certainly don't wanna mess with, everything Viggo said about him is true and you can hear the seriousness in his voice, that's how you know that John Wick is someone you should truly fear,he's an ex marine and a trained assassin which explains how dangerous he really is, his experience with firearms and sharp weapons further elevates his already insane hand to hand combat prowess and further solidifies him as a very very well trained assassin and ex marine

The fact that they had couple of actors from The Wire (my absolute all time favourite show) warms my heart.
Also, if you want something similiar (thats not just John Wick 2/3) I'd suggest Equalizer (from 2014 iirc). Really solid standalone action movie.

Some of the stunt men/crew from the Matrix made these movies, Keanu agreed to make it with them. That's why the fighting and stunts are amazing in this it was made by stuntmen.
The framing of the shots, the lighting, the subtitles, it is just like a graphic novel cone to life.

I love watching John Wick reactions and I've seen Angelina's name suggested numerous times, I just hadn't given her a chance before.
I made it about 8 minutes. But it made me curious and I figured out how to copy and paste the closed captioning and, after a quick edit, I was able to figure out that she said over 580 words during the first 4 minutes of the actual movie reaction alone.
Same. I made it 13 minutes and change according to the watch line on the video... but I was watching at 2x speed.
The John Wick house is out here on Long Island in a very exclusive town called Mill Neck. (At the end of Horseshoe Road by the water.) -- The runway John practices on is at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, NY..
Fun fact: Iosef (the guy who killed John's dog) felt bad and often played with Daisy when he was off-set.

The camera work, craftsmanship and choreography for all these fight scenes is just incredible! John Wick singlehandedly changed the formula for action movies.(there may be a few others, but this one was big). Instead of crazy jump cuts and total chaos to a point where you as the viewer don't have any clue what's going on anymore to clean shots that live off perfectly trained choreography of highly skilled stunt people and ofc. Keanu Reeves. It also matches the clean cut precision you'd expect from a super scary professional assassin
we too recently had to say goodbye to a fluffy friend so yeah while the collateral is huge at least that stupid dude deserved his punishment.
Hong Kong movies have already done clean camerawork with high level stunt work

Since you liked Christian Bale Batmans, would you please, please, please do a reaction to Equilibrium (2002)? He is really badass in this dystopian sci-fi, and only a few channels have reacted to it, which is a shame cause it's a really underrated little gem.
Another detail, Viggo was drinking green juice in the beginning and was trying to be healthy. Then the events occur and he stops being healthy and just full on starts smoking cigs, blunts, and of course drinking
One of the things that made John Wick work so well is that it broke away from the fight scene mould that Hollywood has been stuck in since The Bourne movies. While the scenes aren't perfect, John Wick incorporates wide shots, they aren't cutting the cameras every 1.5 seconds, and most importantly (at least in my opinion) the shots are steady.

The most hilarious thing to me about Winston and a few others calling John Jonathan is that John is its own name. It's not short for anything. The shortnened form of Jonathan is Jon. So people calling him Jonathan and making it sound more formal are not actually calling him by his real name.
Some people are called Johnathan too..so John would be appropriate shortening for that ...but even so, what isn't explained until part 3 is that John is not his true name either...

I ignored this in the theater and only watched it late night for the first time on HBO while drunk--and I was blown away. It's straight up a GOAT action movie

I like your reactions but you talk over critical points in the movie too much. Comment at critical scenes pausing the video.
One of my favourite little details in this movie tells you a lot about the main villain. He makes his son drink expensive vodka, which is highly alcoholic, then punches him in the gut to make him throw it back up. He does it cos alcohol burns going down, but also burns coming up again. He used an expensive alcohol cos it's especially painful when it comes back up, just to hurt him more and teach him a lesson.
Also, there is another film that mentions underground body cleaners. Pulp Fiction.

You had more dialogues in this reaction than the actual movie clips played.. maybe tone it down a bit? Just a thought.. Maybe do a movie review later and talk all you want.. just don't take everyone through every detail of everything you see on screen. Remember, they've already watched the movie
I made it 8 minutes. Stopped. Copied the CC file of just the first 4 minutes after the movie started. Removed movie dialog from the CC.

@@corporatekhanna I honestly only made it 8 minutes into the video, so I didn't experience that. Once the action picked up I realized that she wasn't just talking because "plot setups are boring."

"John" or "Jonathan" is the Americanization of his original Belarusian name Jardani. It's like a friend of mine who's named Tadashi but goes by "Todd" with non-Japanese/non-Japanese-American friends and associates.
The one guard that gave him a fight in the club is the director of the film, also that same guy was Keanu's stunt double in the Matrix films.
There’s a video about all the details you missed watching John Wick, can’t tell ya by who but it’s definitely worth a watch.
For example(and I’m paraphrasing here): Viggo introducing John Wick to his son. He’s waiting at the bar with a couple of vodkas. He gets up into the boy’s personal space making him nervous before offering the drink. They clink glasses but Viggo doesn’t drink, signifying that he doesn’t celebrate what his son did. When he punched the boy in the gut it forced the vodka back up, burning him twice, before making the boy clean up the mess like some janitor. Viggo then pours himself another drink, ignoring the original, and choosing a more expensive vintage this time.
So yeah, lots of interesting stuff in these movies.
