Personally, I think Terror Birds, particularly large species like titanis and kelenken, employed an R-type reproductive strategy similar to what many non-avian theropods probably did, by laying large batches of relatively small eggs that hatch precocial young able to care for themselves independent of the parents. With the possible exception being that Terror Birds of both sexes may have helped in incubating the eggs as we see in modern birds of prey.
Titanis never invaded North America, because it EVOLVED there BEFORE the GABI: it was its ancestor that colonized North America back during the Miocene, making a sea crossing.
