- Dax Exclamationpoint competed on season 8 of Rupaul's Dragrace, with a brand that strongly revolved around her love for cosplay. Yet after having a run on the show that wasn't all that great, most fans didn't really think too much about her. With Dax recently saying that she feels like the forgotten queen. One of the main dramas she got into was regarding Darkveil, so I thought I'd make a video about it.

Not gonna lie, Episode 2 is extra gut wrenching with the knowledge that just a couple seasons later Silky would get a literal "meh" from Ru Paul and survive to the next week, instead of being sent home alongside Nina.
Agreed, but I think they kept Silky because, well, she was loud the whole season and hyped herself up a lot. It was a little annoying but it certainly gave production a lot of content to work with, hence why they kept her.

Asking who did the cosplay better goes against the spirit of cosplay. Unless you're actively in a cosplay competition, it's not about who did it better. Who cares if your outfit is hand-sewn or duct tape? It's about having fun and embodying a character. Creativity and engenuity shine regardless of material.

As a cosplayer myself, I hate people who tear down other's cosplay so much. If you're doing it as a hobby then it isn't a competition, it's a way to express your love and adoration for a character.
It's about having fun! If you're having fun, congrats, you won!

dax was my pre-season fave based off of the meet the queens . i rlly wanted to see more . also laila was my second fave , this episode was my villain origin story.

I would love her on an all stars season. I just wished she found a way of portraying the superheroness she likes without being an already existing character, so copyright is not an issue.
The thing is, it’s NOT an issue anymore. Queens like crystal and Phiphi literally cosplay as licensed characters on seasons after that

Gigi did a good daphne look from Scooby-doo. You could tell it was daphne without it explicitly being the character. Highly referenced by. I think Dax could do similar things! Superhero drag in general!
Brook Lynn Hites serves up a great drag/cosplay feeling. It would have been nice to see Dax pull that off on her season.

You have no Idea how refreshing it is to actually have someone not just hate on Nina cuz that's the narrative. She's not this evil villain in every situation she finds herself in and it's nice that you cover the drama properly because so often I find when something involves her even the slightest bit the idea of remaining balanced goes out the window.
Also she really should have been Black Chyna lol, it seriously would have been iconic
People don't just hate her because it's the narrative.
The queens who receive the most harassment tend to be Black, fat, mentally ill, or a combination of two or all identities.
Black with mental health conditions:
- James William Ross IV (formerly Tyra Sanchez), unspecified conditions and suicidal ideation
- Nina Bo'Nina Brown, depression
- Jasmine Masters, depression
Ableism in the Drag Race fandom and queer community is important to me because I am queer AF and disabled AF.
I understand what it feels like to be judged, discriminated against, and excluded from the LGBTQIA community because of my physical and developmental disabilities.
I can't imagine how badly Black, queer, disabled people are treated.

Monet actually is too heavy set in face and body - the character is actually a trio of Nina, Shea and Dax. How I know this is because the character is also in my wheelhouse as biological woman and I also could easily Cosplay as her. I take isnpiration from Dax, Shea and Nina - Monet has a face and body type completely diferent no similarity whatsover. Monet is the pussy cat wig queen or street wear. If the queen could not cosplay as Storm sucessfully they were not the inspiration for the character and I could never see Monet doing Storm and looking - right
Tbh I don’t blame marvel for not using DarkVeil anymore, her story and power was basic. Don’t get me wrong I love drag in different media’s but that was so generic.
For example watching Hocus Pocus 2 I couldn’t wait for Ginger, Kornbread and Kahmora but their lines and characters were same old sassy stereotypes that the producers of drag race could come up with in a underwritten acting challenge.
Drag queens need better representation in media outside of drag race, because they are mostly the always the same. Hopefully Shea has a character with depth 🤞
I mean they could have just ret conned her story they have literally changed the background abilities of other characters in the comics sometimes more than once and their have been more basic abilities in the past.
Frankly, I think Nina being mad about it makes me wonder if Marvel is one of her fandoms at all. I mean, WHEN has Marvel ever used anything but distorted hourglass figures? It's the House Style. If she wants to be a Marvel Heroine she needs to pad those tiddies out out to match the hips, and present herself to the camera Gaff first. >.<

It can't be easy for Dax! to see all the success that Violet, Bob and even Kim and Naomi have achieved after the show so it's easy to understand why she perceives herself as "the forgotten queen." She's amazingly talented so it's kind of surprising that she hasn't appeared on All-Stars. Is that because she hasn't been invited or because she feels the show did her dirty and doesn't want to risk duplicating that experience? Queens throwing shade is one thing, but actively attempting to diminish other queen's art is quite another. Going on a talk show and criticizing another queen's look in order to try and elevate your own is really not a good tactic if you're wanting to win over fans. It just comes off as bitter and petty. Maybe this is why fans of the show have kind of written her off. Perhaps she needs a redemption story like Rajah or Silkie so fans can get to know who Dax! really is and what she brings to the table as a performer, entertainer and artist.

@@Mycenaea -- Many fans like to say the race really begins after the show and I tend to agree. The show itself is an opportunity and what a queen is able to do afterward speaks more loudly than what they were able to accomplish within the confines of the show's format. For proof that it's completely possible to build a brand and success you need to look no further than Jaymes Mansfield, a first out queen who made the absolute most of the very short time she was on the show.

Although I love Nina's drag and personality, it seems kinda wrong to try and bandwagon on a marvel character just because of physical similarities. She had a huge saboteur,which doesn't line up with marvels take on that specific hero. I hope Nina gets more of the recognition she deserves but this was a huge reach. She isn't the only POC with curves. But that same saboteur came back for this hero

I always wondered if any mention of Dax and Violet’s connections were edited out because of her early elimination, since it would’ve been a stain on her reputation if it was completely public knowledge, rather than smth the superfans knew.

Thank u for saying sweet things about Nina, because ppl stay coming for her and tearing down her drag(I know my beloved Nina says shady stuff sometimes, but I admire her for speaking out about her depression and how she moved back home to help take care of her parents and help with their bills)but like u said, a lot of queens have basically been inspired by her(even if they don't want to admit it? Damn....Dax seemed like a queen who would have made it far on the show, maybe I'm missing something but there's a nuance and intellect to her aesthetic that I wish we'd see more of
I just did my first watch of season 8 and wished I got to see more of Dax, especially since I really like the way a nerdy/cosplay drag aesthetic sounded and she really didn't get to display that in her time on the show. Though I think the copyright issues would still be a thing if she competed today and I don't think she left a lasting impression enough to be on All Stars (and she might not want to be on it anyway) 😔

Like rupaul said. He gives you a platform but it's up to the queen what you decide to do with it. So being "forgotten" isn't the showd fault. Look at queens like porkchop, vanjie, jaymes, Serena they were early outs but used their time, energy, and platform to continue to do what they love and brand themselves. And omg miss Laila mcqueen she is a makeup artist now she completely branded herself and used her platform to longevity. So you can't expect to appear on a show and expect to be gifted all these cameos, free sponsorships, etc. You gotta put the work and effort after too
Exactly! I like Dax' aesthetic and looks but beyond that, she hasn't proved over the years that she's willing to work with other queens, as seen by several of her public complaints and issues with other queens. She also hasn't showcased that much personality where there would be a reason to have her on. I'm sure she's grown, I'm sure she's developed.... but I haven't seen it yet because we don't see her anywhere.

Sooo when I remember Shade was announced…Nina was mentioned. So I find it strange that all of sudden she wasn’t. Then the face of the character changed to look more like Dax or Vixen.

I recently went on a Nina live and alluded to how she should have been Blac Chyna in the comments as fun support but she unexpectedly went off about it for a sec and a moderator was about to block me until Nina said it was OK.. but that wasn't before saying that they are not just what happened on RPDR and the catchphrases etc.. So guess what, shes NOT into it....and to be fair, she herself said she declined an invite by the crew of the actual Blac Chyna to be at some sort of event bc she felt that at that point she was over it and didn't want to just be associated with that one moment forever.. Which is all fair..The ultimate irony tho was seeing her next upload be a DR review 🙄🤷♂

Just wanted to say I'll never forget Dax Exclamation Point she was one of my favorites when I seen her come in as Storm I loved it and it was a very well put together look of Storm. I also remember what she said when she came in... what's up nerds. I do think she should have lasted that lip sync. Yes it wasn't amazing but I agree it seemed like it was just a shock to send then both home it was done for drama. I liked Leila McQueen as well but she already had a second chance because she was saved first week.

I used to support Nina and her anxiety over queens coming for her BUT with time I've realized she likes to give opinions and come for queens regardless. As soon as someone says ANYTHING about her, it's considered an attack and she is blocking folks.

I'm pretty sure shea may be playing darkveil in the series. The shows have done a good job at taking obscure/minor/boring comic characters and making them interesting, so if shea is gonna be a series regular, I'm sure Darkveil will have more depth

UUHHHHH "Shade" is such a good idea for a marvel anti hero and her personality being based off NINA would be iconic! It just seems like the "look" of the character was loosely based off the drag queens he named. Where the story and personality really went no where. But basing Nina's COMPLEX history and strugglez thru drag alone to make this character seems like the OBVIOUS and best choice. And I like keeping the name as "Shade", like a real drag name, not something that sounds like a roller coaster at six flags. There is SO much you could do with an anti hero character like this.
The drag queen known as Nina Bo'nina Brown, who appeared on RuPaul's Drag Race Season 9, should have been assigned the role of Black Chyna.

I love Dax, I wish she had had a better shot. I would love to see some more drag race light shed on Savannah drag. The Doll, Lady Chablis' impact is still strong, and there are incredibly captivating queens there!

I love Dax, she could read the phone book and I'd be enthralled, and her finale look was everythinggggggg. I also think it's such a weird choice to have an iconic and highly anticipated song as a lip sync song for the bottom two on a lip sync challenge... it feels a bit "we want to orchestrate a double elim" moment to me, and if that's the case it's a shame they threw both queens under the bus.
I see what you're saying but that was one of the messiest lip syncs of all time, to one of the easiest songs ever. No shade to Laila or Dax as well but part of why they were both eliminated was because they weren't offering any quotes, confessionals or werkroom moments, so were just that much easier to send home. If you're not going to be a great lip syncer then there has to be other reasons for you to stay besides the 'rules' saying only one queen goes home every week. I still think it was the right decision to send both home.

I really do think Shae is playing Darkveil tho. They're probably pushing the character to be more deep but I'd bet she's playing her. I remember she went live once and had her natural hair dyed that weird green color. She was on set eating a salad. LOL.

anyways i totally agree Dax has been forgotten which is sad because her work is very impressive. it's just to different audiences than a lot of (awesome) fashion or campy queens. though, i don't think it helps that she doesn't seem to hold much public kinship with any of the rugirls.
When Dax was introduced, I felt he had what it took to go further... And I was rooting for him..The graphics, and Alexis’ Bam during the shooting story?.. Perfection..😅..more of that please ..
