  • Elk Hair Caddis/Sedge pattern is from the tying bench of well know American fly tyer Al Troth. This is probably the most well known caddis pattern in existence, and rightly so. The Elk Hair Caddis as it is also known is one of the best adult caddis patterns that you could use.

Always have a little trouble keeping the butt ends on top of the hook they tend to get low on the sides making the head trim messy. Just saw you go underneath the butts on your 3rd turn. Brilliant idea. Gotta go try that!

Hi, what’s the benefit of starting the hackle up front as opposed to the back? It seems easier to wrap the hackle from the back after you wrap the copper wire, will save you from having to dodge the hackle

Several! You don't crowd the rear of the fly, you get the longest barbules at the head of the fly, the copper wire is wound over the palmered hackle to strengthen it. Just to name a few...

After saying that the wire is wound in the opposite direction (counter clockwise), you wound it in the same direction as the hackle or did I miss something. Not sure if I saw that correctly.

Hi Richard, maybe! who knows it should be in the opposite direction but sometimes I just loose track of what I'm doing...

Sir, I feel ashamed watching your videos. Each one of your flies looks like it should be in a museum. Mine, not so much. But boy do I love to tie...
