Thank you for showing how to square the belt sander; that seems to be the biggest complaint that people have had with not only this sander but several others.
For the most part, I think it would be a set it and forget it thing if set up in a fixed location. Unless you are sanding miters.
Great video. My son & I got into a small “made to order” Adirondack chair side business and after palm sanding our first few pieces, we bought this sander and it’s been a game changer in our speed & quality of goods.

Getting that for $100 was an absolute steal! I've owned mine for a couple years, and it has become one of those 'how did I get along without it?' tools. I agree with your assessment on dust collection spindle vs belt, also on the overall size. I have mine mounted on top of a small Craftsman 4 drawer tool cabinet. I keep all my sanding gear/supplies, in those drawers.
You got that right. At $100 I couldn't pass it up. (I'm seeing a current price of $329. right now on the HD website) I have a Bucktool belt/disk sander but it gets abused sanding wood/plastic/metal. I've left a few marks on nice wood projects sanding with old belts, so when the deal came up, at that price, it was go time. Would love to have it set up all the time. I need a bigger shop!!
Had mine for 2 years it’s nice to go flip the switch and sand on a plat form. Dust collection is as you said exactly. I have a 30 x 60 ft shop with 40x40 inch wall fan exhaust I use when heavy sanding. Remarkable difference. I weld as well. Will clear shop of smoke in 5 min if I forget to turn on first lol. Your furnace fan is what I have mounted on a roll around about 40 inches high with heater I made mounted underneath that separately. I’m in Florida so only need heater may be two weeks total all winter😂 Impressed with what yo do in a small space. I went from a 16x20 shed that housed lawn and storage to my dads after he past away. I’m a completely ruined to go back to a small space.
I have this sander and it’s really useful and accurate provided you set it up carefully. What is annoying is the parts storage which does not hold the parts securely, they fall out/off due to vibration and even during cleaning!

I agree... ehhhhh it is a sander. And YES it is much bigger than I thought as well for a darn spindle and 4" belt work area she sure sucks up space. Exactly how I found this video because I'm on the fence of going with a different one that at least has more sanding capacity if it is going to consume as much cubic "air" as it does.
Great catch on the belt sander not being exactly level... I would have never thought of that...

Thank you! I have a grinding machine for 3 years, and, unfortunately, the motor stuck when I start machine, and I need turn a belt to start the Rigid again. Any advise?
Thanks for the video. Which replacement sanding belts did you buy? Mine keep walking up the belt sander no matter what I do.
I just buy replacements off Amazon... Try flipping the belt to see if it walks down the sander to see if its a belt problem. If it still walks up, then it's a machine issue. I found the tracking knob is not that precise, and sometimes it takes a bit of fiddling to get it to track correctly
I don't know how you got yours but finally i just got mine, i was waitng for the price to go down, instead went up by $60 in the last year here in rhe midwest
I was lucky enough to be a member of the "Den Of Tools" Facebook group and saw the first few posts about it. It was only being sold for the price at a HD store in Florida. Went online, put the correct FLA zip code in, and got one at that price. Shipping it to NC didn't change the price, but within a few hours the "deal" was gone. @@ryananthony4840 I went with the Sealey SM1300, but they are branded by several companies.
I have a similar model, but it rotates the opposite way, which I find more convenient. It also has the hose exit at the side, which means it does not need to be removed, and it can sit closer to the wall. What it does not have is the slot in the table- so adding a square fence took a bit more effort. Bit smaller, though...
BTW I see you have a radial arm saw- so why did you build a table sled? Is the RAS not better in every way for doing cross-cuts?
That is the one way I think the dust collection could be improved, mounting the hose port on the end of the sander where, in use, dust starts to pile up as is can not make it around to the back of the belt to get sucked into the collection port.
Also, right before Christmas I was making gifts and had to cut the end of some 6 inch (150mm) legs at 15˚. I used the RAS and the push block you see in the video to hold 2 of them down as I made the cut. (I didn't swing the saw to the 15˚ angle, I tried holding them at 15˚ but not against the fence, one of a few mistakes I made that night) I must not have had even pressure on them as the saw grabbed the first one and threw it into the ceiling and as I ducked it threw the second one right past my head. So I thought, for small pieces, a cross cut sled would be safer. Thanks for watching!!!
@@3twelveworkshop312 Yes, because a RAS makes a climb cut, it needs good rear support. I think they have fallen out of favour because you have to treat them right- and YT videos show how many people do not use their tools with respect.
My sander does not have such ports- it sucks right around the belt.
@@Tensquaremetreworkshop that was a moment of remembering that haste makes waste… It was two days before Christmas. I had to finish assembling it so that I could start to put the finish on the gift. Haste in life usually makes waste, but haste in the workshop can lead to bleeding. I was lucky.

I got a chance to use one of the other brand's smaller bench sanders. I can say that even though it's big, it is the best one out there!!!
@@3twelveworkshop312 I'd rather it be bigger! The bigger the heavier the better!! More stability.... I have an oscillating drum sander with nice cast iron top but not very much surface area.... I prefer the bigger table myself
@@3twelveworkshop312 Also I meant to say I love those Workmates it's setting on, my grandfather gave me one and several years later when I learned about bench dogs I have been using it for about anything that fits in and on it........ they are so useful!!

Seems like definitely 100 bucks well spent. Yeah it's not a machinist grade level of accuracy but I don't think you can do better for the cash. A spindle and belt sander for less than the cost of a Woodpeckers 12" square? Not bad at all, and more than enough for anyone not doing it for a living.
I really need one of these but I am NOT going to spend probably north of $350.00 w/ taxes on this thing that some people say that its not very square in the first place. Anyway you might give me any tips on possible how to find one at what you paid for the thing? Would greatly appreciate any help you might be able to give...Subscribed ! Thanks
I'd follow the group Den of Tools on Facebook... He has a YT channel as well.... The only real tip I can give is patience and a little luck, I was online at the right time when the deal came up.

True, you don't have to remove it. I tend not to clamp the dust collection hose to the port since I have to move tools around to use them. I keep knocking it off, must be an age thing.
I had 2 of these and both failed prematurely. Purchased a Wen and haven’t had any issues. I like the design of the ridgid better but they just didn’t last
