Absolutely love my vanford 2500. Upgraded from my nasci and its a pleasure to use for long periods of time.
Agreed Matthew, It has really grown on me. I've caught some big fish now with my 2500 Vanford. I captured this the other day using it which was epic czcams.com/video/0zRAy9rmx0w/video.html
Another awesome video FishingMad !!! I was looking at buying one of these reels but all the fishing shops in Melbourne are closed.
Thanks Heath. Yeah the new reels feel really nice. I wouldn't say that they look nice unless you pair it with a Zodias. But thats my personal preference. Yeah I understand i too am in Melbourne. I had to buy mine online through a NSW distributor and I usually like to look and feel before buying. Looks like retail wont be ope up for a while still
Thanks for all your hard work creating everything you’ve done for fishing in Melbourne
Thank Matthew, I love getting comments like this. makes all the effort worth while !! Thank you
i used shimano vanford for 2 years now and its amazing... by the way what's the model of rod you pair to vanford in your video? thanks!
I'm a Ci4+ guy but the Vanford is actually lighter and has X protect! Those are not minor improvements in my book!
My cousin bought a 2500 Vanford today and he is also matching it to a previous model Zodius rod as his go to soft plastics outfit. It is replacing his sustain which has been relegated to a bream basher. Thank you for the video, it will be interesting to see if Aussie fishers embrace this evolution of the beloved Stradic, seems like a risk stepping away from such a strong branding, time will tell. Tight lines.
Thanks Gary, I really appreciate your comment. I agree its a big risk by Shimano changing the name. people become loyal to model and brands and change like this will be interesting to watch unfold. To me it the new model feels nice and will be a really nice soft plastic outfit when paired with a good rod like a zodias. I still like the sustains they were always nice reels.
Tell your cousin that all lure types are useful, and that having a "soft plastics outfit" indicates hes been brainwashed by the ridiculous marketing hype surrounding them. They catch fish but are by no means the most versatile or effective lures over all. They have much more profit for the wholesalers and that is the reason they have been plugged to the extreme. So please consider all lure types! Mini rant over.
Looking at buying a new reel I was thinking about a vanford or team diawa TD black .
What way would you go ??
I had no idea this was coming out! I bought the Stradic before the latest one. Was gonna get the new one, but got a great deal on a Daiwa TD Sol III so went for that. They're both great reels, but preferred the Sol overall. But this sounds like a step up from the Stradic, so might have to check one out. Thanks for the video Alan. I love these sort of videos.
Thanks Darren as always. Truth be told I bought 2 reels last week the Vanford and the Daiwa Sol III which was on special for the same price. At this stage i probably rate the Sol 3 a little better than the vnaford The Sol III has a slightly higher drag capacity, slightly less weight and can put a lot more line on the reel. The Vanford 2500 spool is quite shallow. That being said both very good reels and happy with both. im glad you found the video helpful.
@@fishingmad The drag capacity is not relevant, reel manufacturers state ludicrous specs like to con young fisherman. 9kg drag capacitiy is what I use to catch blue marlin with! Its nessercary for line about 30kg, which people dont use on a bream reel. And if they did, those tiny little washers would disintegrate after a few seconds. Drag pressures were never a thing, until reels like saltigas designed to fish very heavy braid came along. And because this braid was so strong, the big eggbeaters had to be redesigned to handle line that was several times heavier than we had before. So quoting high drag pressures was a legitimate thing to do. So they realized they could write down this additional spec , but its bullshit hype when applied to smaller reels. All reels these days have enough drag to fish their relevant line classes. Thats all you need to know. Dont be fooled!
Would you run one of these in a 2500 or 3000 on a squid fishing set up? And could I also use this reel to then go and chase some carp up the Murray or would it not really handle that being a finesse reel...
From what I understand the Stradic FL has
X Protect and that long spool as well. So what is the actual difference?
Hi I’m really enjoying you videos just a question what size hook will fit on a 2.5 inch paddle tale thanks
Size 1 or 1/0. You would struggle to pull them straight on a smaller hook due to the tight curve. Also, if you’re just starting off, it is easier to put them on a non-headlockz style jighead first
Please film a surf whiting session! Thinking of trying it out myself when this all blows over, but I'd like to get an idea of the right techniques, bait and what to look out for before jumping at it. I've got the rigs down already, thanks to your previous video. Thanks!
Glad you are enjoying the videos. Yeah i was planning on doing a lot of surf videos this winter but have been in lock down unable to get out and create content around surf fishing. Hopefully can get something done soon.
Thank you for you good review 👌
You helped convince me to buy the vanford 4000🎣😊
I have used the Vanford for 5 months now. I now have 3 of them and they have really grown on me. The drag is amazing on these things you wont be disappointed.
Great video mate. I would have to 100% agree with all that you have said. Ive been a fan of the CI4+ for some time and got a Vanford as soon as i could. A few minor improvements on a already solid performing reel. It was a welcome addition to my fishing family;)
Thanks !!! I completely agree the Stradics CI4+ have been brilliant reels to date. I wasn't sure about the Vanford at first but its already really grown on me. Smoother, lighter and the sound of the drag is amazing. What size vanford did you get ?
Awesome video Alan 👍. Good to see a comparison of the two.
Thanks Jared, Much appreciated. The Stradic CI4+ is a very popular reel used by many of my angling mates all at different fishing levels. So i thought others would find this comparison interesting. Thanks for the ongoing support !!!
So is the hairline handle slop not present on the Shimano Vanford because of the Micro Module being incorporated along with the Silent Drive?
I used the ci4 and was not too impressed with it and decided to go with the Stradic FL.
But since I wanted a reel for finese fishing, i pre ordered this
The handle on the Vanford series is pretty much exactly the same as the CI4+ models. The handle will be personal preference i do like the handles of some competitor models. However for a finesse rod the Vanford 1000 and 2500 seem pretty good for weight, noise and quality.
That weight is a crucial factor in the finesse fishing market, that vanford 1000 really makes a difference in the hooksets etc
Hey mate cool video. I just bought a 2500 vanford , they have washers in the box did you put them in or no ? Cheers in advance
They should be just spare ones as the smaller versions are felt washers which aren't he most durable and need occasional replacing.
Did they put carbon drag stacks in all models or only the 3000 and above like the Stradic FL?
Thats 100 right felt drag washers in the 1000, 2500, 3000 and carbon in the larger models
Hi Alan, I recently inherited a Stradic Ci4+ from my mate and the drag only clicks in one direction (when line is pulled out). I asked him about it and he said that was the way it was designed. But my 21 Nasci clicks with spool turned both clock and anti-clock wise. Is it just the Ci4+, or the reel being a lemon to begin with? Hope I am making sense here. Thanks
I know I’m 11 months late, but yes the VANFORD drag clicks only one way. To be honest it’s like 50/50 for me idk and at the same time, it bothers me a little bit. Hope this helps.
Anyone know what the difference is between the HGF and XGF versions?
VF2500HGF or VFC3000XGF
With the Vanford has anyone noticed pressure on your pointer finger? from where the foot to body distance has been shortened where it rests on your finger. Compared to the Ci4 with just a bit longer foot to body distance.
Been fishing with the stradic FL 3000xg and the vanford lately and they’re both fantastic. Hard to tell much of a difference honestly they’re both lovely
100% agreed, I have both and agree that they are both great. But the differences minor to tell at times.
Hey I got a question, When you order the Shimano Stradic ci4+ does it come with the slim profile grip on the handle as shown in the video? Or do you have to order a the slim profile grip separately?
Comes exactly as shown in the video. That was the first time it was opened with no modifications made.
hi mate where do I get those rod holders on your back wall cheers!
I just had a quick look onlinme, only place i could see them was www.ottostackleworld.com.au/berkley-combo-5-rod-rack?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI9Lnev6r77AIV2NxMAh3Y6gZnEAQYAiABEgLZkvD_BwE cheers
Fantastic video - recently purchased a SOL III after your review video and also have the ci4+. Really keen to know what reel you find better between the SOL III and the Vanford? anything that really sticks out between the two?
Thanks for the positive feedback. I have used the SOL3 and Vanford now for 5 months. Without doubt id pick the vanford. Infact I've put a couple more vanfords. The drag is so much better than the sol 3. It sounds so much nicer and feels so much smoother. Which is the opposite to what I thought when i bought them. The only downside is the bail arm is quite flimsy but its not a big drama and equivalent to the C14+. Hope that helps
@@fishingmad that helps greatly - thanks a lot - keep up the fantastic reviews. Perhaps an idea for another video. Sol III vs Vanford :)
Yep 100% I was thinking of doing exactly that now that I have used both extensively for the last 6 months.
I just bought one of these...hoping and thinking it is a good reel for light tackle fishing for Spanish mackerel from the shore....did I make a good choice...? And what size rod/action should I pair with it?
Yes you made a very good choice, I have been using the vanford for months and it has really grown on me. So light and the drag sound is as good as anything ive used. They go great with the zodias rods.
I was asking me if the Stradic Ci4+ 4000 is a valid option to fish pike, bluefish, seabass and small catfish....
Is the savage gear steath rod 7ft 2-4kg and the vanford 2500 a good combo for lure fishing?
Yep great combo I used that combo in this vid czcams.com/video/wpAC2vVsvfM/video.html also you could consider bumping the rod upto a zodias which is perfect
I'm a little confuse with the 'Drag Washers'. You mentioned Shimano has added 'felt drag washers' on the smaller model Vanford and 'Carbon drag washers' on the bigger model. I tried to find out what type of washers were used in the older model Stradic Ci4+FB but seem to be having trouble finding it in their specs. Can you tell me what washers did the Ci4+ FB used please? By the way, thanks so much for your video, it has been a great help for me as a beginner searching for a cheap reel. many thanks.
Yeah Shimano is starting to do this for all reel models now. Felt on the 2500 and 3000 and carbon for 4000 and above. The felt drag washers can easily be replaced with carbon ones, however they say its done to reduce weight. In my time ive only needed to replace a couple of felt drag washers
Okay so your saying the third generation Stradic Ci4 FB uses felt drag washers? Oh can you also tell me the 'warranty' on the Vanford please? Cheers. Thanks for the reply Sir.

Would love to see a 3 and 6 month review again offer you’ve put it through its paces. Even a comparison with the TD Sol 3 once you’ve got out at fished them.
If the Sol 3 and Vanford are the “best” reels in the $300-400 range, what is your favourite’s in the $200-300 range?
Thanks Alastair that's a really good comment. I agree assessing it after 3 and 6 months does make a lot of sense. I actually had a Daiwa SOL III arrive on the same day, so that would be a great comparison of both after a few months of usage. To determine which feels better, which is more durable etc. In the 200-300 bracket I like the Daiwa BG spin reels and Daiwa TD blacks you usually find them around that price point. Cheaper than tha I think best values would be reels like the Nasci or Stealth. I started putting this article together some time ago which you might find helpful fishingmad.com.au/review/best-spinning-reels-2020 cheers
Are you sure it has ipx capacity? Isn't that for reels with x shield?
Yes on Shimanos Australian website and in the box I got it says that all Vanford reels have IPX certified line rollers and clutch with Xprotect. Thanks
I only fish saltwater in Florida. Do I get the Vanford or Stradic FL?
Both will work fine, if it was simply for saltwater then id be tempted to save a few bucks and look at a Stradic FL
Hey mate what's your best method for cleaning your reels after Saltwater use? Enjoy your vids, always helpful. 👍
I usually just wipe them down with a dry rag and spray a little bit of inox on the rag. That works well or rinse them very gently with fresh water then let them dry. I just find if you do this the line can get a little sticky and your first casts next session out arent as good. I hope that helps
Gday Alan, do you think the vanford is better than the td sol? If so then what is your reasoning for it. And also do you think the Td sol mq that is gonna come out be much of a difference from the sol III?
Yes 100% I would pick a Vanford over a TD Sol. The drag system is superior, the drag sound is much louder, the handle feels nicer in the hand. I bought the Vanford and TD Sol at the same time and i just always pickup the Vanford first. The Vanfords at the moment are also much cheaper I believe BCF had them at 25% off last week. Daiwa are currently making every reel to LT standards incorporating the MQ features which is great. I haven't played with the new TD Sols yet, they do look nice however the drag sounds are so quiet on the many of the LT reels. My Luvias LT is almost silent which really frustrates me. I hope this info helps
@@fishingmad ah yes ok, thanks for the great response, will certainly help my purchase👍
Hey alan Im from Melbourne as well and i was wondering if you have any idea of when we will be able to get back on the water. I can search this up but i don’t like reading 😂
At this stage looks like the earliest will be Oct 26th unless state government makes any changes before that. Im already at the point where i cant wait much longer LOL
Thanks Alan for your reply, hopefully everything gets better fast because I am getting in patient
I hear ya, all my fishing buddies are so over it already. Cant wait to get back out there,
in size 2500, which i should buy ? ballistic lt or vanford ? i fishing for bass and breamfish, thank you
The vanford has really grown on me so id highly recommend that as a good option over the Ballistic. here we also have the Daiwa Luvias 2000 which is an outstanding choice for bream and bass fishing
I bought a Shimano Stradic 5000 FL XG.... also a very good reel ..☺️
100% agree, i bought the new Stradic SW 5000 last month and really liking it, ill have a review about it on Monday evening.
Returned my new Vanford back to the shop as I didn't like the fact that the handle didn't fold. I like to keep my rods built up and in hard rod cases and this was just not possible with the Vanford. I know I could have removed the handle but I didn't like having an open handle hole while storing the rods with possible dust ingresion. More than happy with my Stradics and buying good condition used ones whenever I see them up for sale.
Sorry I’m new to finish and I’m doing my best to get the best reel I can get. I found the vanford and the saragosa SW 2020 for the newest reels out there. I just don’t know the difference as to which is better. I also don’t know if I should go with the biggest size. is the 5000 too much? I want a reel that I can take everywhere for any type of fishing. I hope to one day go boat fishing for bigger fish.
All depends on what fish species your planning to target. The Saragosa is a saltwater reel designed for bigger fish such as snapper, king fish, mulloway, Giant Trevally. Whereas the Vanford is a smaller anf light weight reel built for bream, flathead, snapper, trout, redfin and those sorts of species. I hope that helps.
You really won't find a one rod and reel that will do it all. If you're fishing the flats and banks of estuaries targeting species like flathead, bream, mulloway, taylor or anything else in the estuaries you don't need anything above a 3000 and probably don't need much bigger than 10-12 pound line. Only need light rods too, heavier rods and gear you won't feel the strike. Only thing that's likely to bust you off is king fish or mulloway. If you're heading for the rocks or out to chase pelagics you'll need heavier duty gear to handle the size and weight of those fish.
can you do a Vid on the 2020 TP?
Im trying to get my hands on the new twin powers. Has been challenging whilst in lockdown. They look really nice and keen to get a review done on them soon
Hi, do you know of there is a serie number on the vanford and if so where it is? Great vid 👍🏻👍🏻
Its a really good question, I have looked on the reel in all visible areas, the back of the mounting area and inside the box and couldn't see anything.
Been waiting for a review on vanford. Good job dude. But i think i stick with daiwa ballistic lt 😄🤝 tight lines. Hi from 🇬🇧
The zodias-vanford setup looks fantastic! I have gradually been converted from a Shimano guy to Daiwa guy. There are many new Daiwa LT series reels that are in similar specs as ci4+ or vanford, but cost almost half the price, and I just found it irresistible. Of course, Shimano comes with 10 year warranty and Daiwa only offers one year. So I guess they factor in the long-term repair cost in advance. : )
Thanks James. I 100% agree, Im also a massive Daiwa reel fan. I have a several of the LT reels and really rate them. Hoping to get a Luvias 2000 next. The Vanford zodias is a great combo, locally would be awesome for targeting heaps of different species. Generally Shimano make very reliable kit. Your 100% right about the warranties though which is a really interesting point.
The vanford which is based on the stradic FL is leagues ahead of any of the cheap daiwa lts
@@Nofishnoclue LOL. You give two fishermen daiwa and shimano and they will both catch fish just fine. If you are a reel collector like art collector, kudos for you LOL. They are about the same.
Hi! I was wondering if yours also says Made in Malaysia on the box?
Yes 100% it does, it also has a made in Malaysia sticker on the back f the reel arm
@@fishingmad Thanks for the prompt reply and confirmation..because I heard there is a Made in Japan batch coming soon. Not sure if that is true and if it is, will there be any differences?
Wow thats very interesting. I know many people value reels being made in Japan with better build quality. ill follow this with interest.
All talking about the features, but didnt manson over that the pickup bail is larger. How does that feel and work handle when casting it ?
Hi Richard, the reel feels great when casting it. Ive caught hundreds of fish with the reel and it has really grown on me. The bail arm feels very thin and weak but it casts very well and is very smooth. Here is a video catching some big fish with it using soft plastics which you might find helpful czcams.com/video/0zRAy9rmx0w/video.html cheers
Weak and Thin what do you mean, just what it means ?
They say its bigger then ci4 bail so maybe they make it thinner I guess
but weak sounds not so good ?
Great video you send me luv it 👍2500 why not the 3000 size has the carbon drag for long runs.
If i compare the bail arm of the Vanford vs a similar reel such as the Daiwa Sol 3 the metal strip is much thinner and feels a little flimsy. Where as the daiwa ones are thicker and more solid. But that is quite common with most shimano reels. Its certainly not a problem and makes up for it with a really nice drag system. In hindsight I probably should have gone with the 3000 size, but the 2500 handled several snapper upto 75cm with no problems.
Such a hard decision, I mostly fish lightweight carolina rigs. Like in total half a ounce at max. Cant decide between a ballistic/FL/Vanford... What would you guys advice?
Hi Nick. The Vanford is certainly growing on us. When it comes to light weight and drag capacity the Vanford is a step above the Ballistic and Stradic FL. I think the Vanford 2500 is about 40grams lighter than the others, and has some other added benefits. All depends on price if you can justify spending a few extra bucks on the vanford which is better.
@@fishingmad Thanks for answering! I got a Westin W6 T&C rod. The Stradic FL 1000 series VS the Vanford 2500 it is really. The thing is I had a Ci4+ before, it started to grind at all really quickly after my purchase. I got the Caldia LT now, and its slowly dieing already. Almost a year old now. I dont mind the extra few bucks. Its just that I want a sturdy and smooth reel. Which lasts more than a year..
Agreed its a very fair point. Especially when your paying good money for reels. Unfortunately we wont know for some time just how durable the Vanfords will be over time. At this stage they seem good, I caught a 6 kilo snapper on my 2500 vanford earlier this week and it handled it really well.
@@fishingmad Congrats on that catch! I'll be only using it for freshwater though. The durability will be a gamble with the Vanford. Hard decision it is haha.
great review 👍keep it up I'd like to see some lighter fishing like bream if ur up to it
Thanks !!!! Greatly appreciated. Yep 100% always up for some bream fishing action. Just cant wait to get out of lock down to test out some recently bought ultra light gear.
Awesome, what did you get ?. I've been looking at some new rods and reels, so many good choices out there.
@@fishingmad was on sale so I bought a abu garcia veritas 3.0 with a pro max 20 great upgrade yes I would have got a stradic but am on a budget
Dont worry those Vertias combos are very good for the price you pay. I had a Vertias 2.0 for several years and really liked it.
What rod (up to 60g) do you suggest to the Vandord?
I have a few Vanfords, I have paired them with the shimano zodias range of rods and the revolution range of rods. Great combos they are
What about line capacity? I looked at a Vanford and Stradic Ci4+ together and i think the Stradic has a little more from memory.
100% the stradic fits more line on the spool. I had a stradic 2500 and a vanford 2500. I had 2 x 150 meter brand new 15lb braid packages same brand and size for each reel. The stradic had to be slightly backspooled, the vanford only fit 85% of the 150m on. So the Ci4 holds more line. But 140m is generally plenty of line.
I’m about to buy a new reel and can get a stradic for about $270 on sale, do you think it’s still worth going for the vanford?
100% I've used the Vanford so much over the past 12 months, its a really good reel that has grown on me. Go the Vanford
@@fishingmad thanks mate, I just got a ripper deal on a vanford and can’t wait to use it. Thanks for the tip 👍
What would u like to suggest me between this two? For sw jigging.. im from malaysia btw..
I probably agree with the comment below the 2020 saltigas will be out very soon. They look very impressive. Otherwise if you were after something lighter and cheaper a vanford 5000 would be an excellent option.
Does the "Gomexus" Products attach to the Vanford as easy as the Stradic?
That's a very good question. Let me chat to some distributors to see if they can confirm.
@@fishingmad Thank You, I am waiting for my Vanford 4000 to come in for delivery.
Hi I am setting up a couple of rods for bream and bass. One is 2-4kg with casting weigt of 2-7grams I am unsure whether to go the 1000 or 2500 in size? The other rod is 2-5kg and I will go the 2500/3000 for that.
@@fishingmad thankyou for the prompt reply I just watched you miller brawler video that's one of the rods I am targeting at..what reel were you running that day?
Shimano Twin Power FD 2500 that reel is magnificent. Significantly more expensive than the Vanford but gee its magnificent.
Should do a follow up video, " Vanford final review, has my opinion changed after 8 months?" or something like that. As I remember in earlier comments you were saying you'd pick the Sol over it and that the Vanford is only a "minor" improvement over the Ci4+, hopefully now you know its far more than minor 😉.
Yeah its a very good idea. Many months later I have really grown to like the Vanford a lot. In fact its become my go to reel choice over the SOL and many others. The drag system is fantastic and its responsive and feels really nice in the hand. ill work on something
@@fishingmad Set the record straight, its now 10 months. It will be an interesting vid if you compare the two head to head...
Just picked this up and 2 more ci4s. You just can’t beat them
I got 3 Stradic c14+for steelhead been using Stradic for steelhead fishing since 2000 today I just got the vanford ima try it out
Should i get the vanford or is there going to be a new stradic or new vanford
No plans that im aware of for a new Stradic or vanford at this stage, i usually follow Shimanos produvct movements closely.
I just order the 3000 size. U think it better then the stradic fl
Yep 100% id go with the Vanford 3000 over a Stradic FL. higher grade components and less weight.
I like the stadia better but don’t regret buying the vanford
I have the stradic ci4 3000 and it isn’t as smooth as my nasci 2500 it makes a grinding noise when I reel in
That's not good, the stradics and vanfords are usually pretty smooth. I would take it back to the shop you bought it from and see if you can get a replacement one under warranty
Cheers Mate.
The 3000 model have a carbontex drag washers, correct the information
Oussama Dje That’s us side with the 3000 xg and Australia has the 3000 hg with the felt drag washers. The 4000 size in the US has felt drags washer because Josh Douglas and other Shimano pros like larger size spinning reels. Personally I wanted the 3000 size in the US to have felt drag washers because I prefer the T handle over the handle with the 2500. Felt drag is better with lighter drag.
Just upgraded from a spheros and though I loved that reel it does not compare to this one. Though I do highly recommend the spheros if your looking for a cheaper version to the stradic.
my Daiwa exceler 4000 handle rotates 12 times with a small amount of force freely. and I see the video, handle just stops itself. I think it is not as smooth as Daiwa's base models. it has tons of bells and whistles in it. yes, it is sexy and has a sleek design that could be a selling point in my opinion.
Wish it had a rubber spool so could tie braid directly to it instead of having to use a backing..
Good reviews Alan. I'm in the market now so perfect timing. After I'm out of lockdown jail. I'll go get one.
@@fishingmad Cheers Alan. Sorry, my name's Chris. It doesn't show on my CZcams name. Enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work and hope we can all do it in real life soon.
Ima gonna stick with my Stradic ci4 + 3000 for ever, dam shimano made this reel so well that I can’t find other reason to buy tha new vanford
They ci4+ are great reels, and really affordable now. I have a few of them and they are very reliable and always perform well.
I agree, I bought my first stradic ci4 1 year before they released vanford it is just part of mass consumerism. However they should offer some kind of trade in program to upgrade for less for as expensive as these reels are
Would you recommend this for jigging application? Or the stradic ci4+? Please reply 🙏🏻
I mainly use the vanford and stradic for targeting fish with soft plastics, lures and bait. Current season using is to target snapper with 4 inch and 5 inch soft plastics and full baits. I have used smaller micro jigs but not larger jigs. What fish are you targeting? and how heavy are the jigs your planning to use. I know if i was fishing for bigger species like kingfish id move upto to a heavier outfit such as a saragosa
@@fishingmad probably gonna use 120gram and below jig. And what we normally caught here would be trevally, spanish mackeral, some grouper and common snappers. Most of the time it would be 6kg and below. Or should i just save some more money to get the new Stradic SW 2020? Thank you!
Good Video ! Just one problem!! You have the handles on the wrong side! =P Sorry old school spinning reel guy=)
I had a chance to test the both reels on 2 big sturgeons yesterday , for me ci4+ 3000 fb delivered a better constant drag than the Vanford 3000. Thank you for review !!!
Thanks Valentin, thats really good feedback. The ci4+ are still very good reels as your tests have proven.
Vanford or TD Sol 3?
Its a very good question. I have them both and like them both a lot. Perhaps based on price and new tech advancements the Vanford is a better option.
Cheers Alan. I am in two minds but definitely fall into the category of Shimano fan boy, I don't really need one (or two!) I just want the newest toys haha. My only gripe with the ci4s was there was a little bit of play and flex with the spool due to the lightweight components/spindle. I assume this is the case with the Vanfords too but wondered if you could confirm. Thanks!
Hi Rob, the spool is quite similar on the Vanford. That being said the internal components on the Vanford are a good step up from the cI4+ improvment in a number of areas. The bale arm and spool still have a little bit of give again because they are so light weight. But the vanford is growing on me and the spool sound is really great on the vanfords.
@@fishingmad Thanks for coming back Alan that's really helpful, I was considering the 5k model when it comes out as a designated jig reel but the flex worries me a bit, I've got a 5k FL that I'm currently using (/was using prior to lockdown) for jigging which is a great back up plan in it's own right. I might stop torturing myself and just preorder and stop delaying the inevitable 😂
Yeah im also looking at a vanford 5000 as a goto light snapper reel. Compact and light but awesome drag capacity.
I belive the Vanford 5000s are a few weeks away from hitting most tackle stores, I have one on back order and will feature it when it arrives.
$369? Have the prices dropped? I see them for quite cheaper
Still $369 in most fishing retail outlets in Australia. probably cheaper in other countries.
How did you get one? 😁
Have a look at 7:40 part of the video. I show a print screen of the purchase. I bought mine online from a NSW online fishing shop as there was zero stock in melb.
Being that it’s the same price point as the Sustain reels, where does that leave the Sustain? Gone?
They still have the Sustain FI models which retail for around $470. The sustains are still a very nice reel. Especially for Salt water fishing.
fishingmad I paid $370 for my Sustain only few months ago, maybe they have gone up in price
I bought a Sustain 10,000 second hand off Gumtree, (from an AFL footy player no less!) pretty cheap. (Bought that and a Wilson Live Fibre rod for $300) He'd used it up north and it had done some work. But gotta say, after a service, it's still going strong. Apart from the Stella and Twin Power, the Sustain is the best spinning reel they've made in my opinion.
Agreed there pretty bullet proof reels. The Wilson Live fibres are also very nice rods. Great setup for snapper and kingies
Alan do you know when we can go fishing 🎣 COVID is wrecking our fisho lives
At this stage it looks like the earliest will be October 26th which is so painful. Cant belive going to have to wait another 46 days if were lucky. Seems like an eternity already.
I’m guessing they’re getting rid of the stradic ci4+ from now.
In 2500 size
Vanford is $369
Ci4+ is $299
Is the extra of the vanford worth it?
At what price point is the ci4+ better value?
$100less?
Cheers
Yeah the original plan I believe from Shimano was to remove the ci4+ altogether but this is happening very slowly as the ci4+ are still available at most retail outlets. This may change slowly with the announcement of some changes to the stradic lineup with a proper SW version announced in the pipeline. personally I would go the vanford there are some really nice changes particularly at the sound and feel of the drag system which is amazing. I now own several vanfords for this reason. The other things are minor but alos nice to have
Where are you seeing the vanford for 369!?? They are 239 at my local shop and the ci4+ is 229 so not that big of difference!
What is the rod in the video?
fishingmad would a Vanford 3000 with 15LB braid match a Zodias 7”2 3-6kg rod?
@8:40 your ci4 the way its slice its not cut right. I think it manufacturing error
@@bassinbilliards6279 the cut on the spool its not top to bottom. Your one has a space between top and bottom
the price for Stradic ci4 is around 200$ so it is still much cheaper than this around 400$ new Vanford. Thanks for the video
Thanks for the comment, lets hope as they phase out the Ci4+ that the vanford will come down in price a bit
Still have my CI4+, but if I had to replace, I'd look at the Vanford.
Agreed, that would be a very good option. Its already growing on me. The drag sound on the Vanfords are amazing.
I recon the Stradic fl is better because it’s $100 cheaper and the Vanford isn’t much different then the Stradic fl it’s just has a few more bits and pieces. But if the price will go down it will be worth it
Thats a really good point Brodie. The Vanford is growing on me but the Stradic FL are very good and a great cheaper alternative.
@@kennethchow4416 The thing I dislike is the reverse levers on reals like the ballistic.
I’m a 62 yo creek and river fisherman, I fish year round ,I have quite a few rod and reel setups for my preferred type of fishing, for 8 mounths of the year I fish 3-6 a week, wading from 2 to 10 a day, I
I just got the vanford 3000 the other day great reel so light if you feel both the vanford 2500 and the 3000 the 3000 is lighter same size but hold more line but all in all great reels
Agreed 100%. the 3000 Vanford size will be very versatile. Light yet can pack a punch with heaps of line.
Rexz83 I have 6lb line on it I only put 150 meters on it I didn’t buy the 300 meters no need it’s for bream and it’s didn’t fill the spool all the way up I also have backing on it
I put 15 lb Daiwa J-Braid Grand 150 meter spool. It took about 140 meters to fill the spool.
Отличные катушки! У меня Stradic CI4+ отловил 4 года, проблем нет, как новая. Есть отличие в подшипниках у Stradic CI4+ надежнее подшипники. Но в плавности хода думаю проигрывает Stradic CI4,
Shimano fireblood was awesome but they stop
Making them intresting to
See what this new model is like
Wow!you have a lot fishing toys..how i wish i can have one...there is a lot of fishing spot here in dubai sir...
Yes, thanks. Sure get to play with some awesome fishing gear these days. There some greater cheaper options to like the new Shimano Miravel
For the price point, both reels need to have carbon fibre drag systems. The felt drags are smooth .....for a while but then disintegrate.
I recently put a carbontex drag in my mates Ci4 2500 after he landed a 127cm Jew. What was left of the felt drag fell apart into tiny pieces of coagulated fluff. The carbontex is a cheap easy upgrade and far superior to felt.
Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod czcams.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.
