- The blower fan in my 2011 Ford F-150 would only work on one speed...High. This is a fix for that. It is a quick, simple and inexpensive fix that any DIYer can do requiring only one 8mm wrench or socket.

I had / have this exact same problem. Fan only works on high. Repair shop replaced the resister and it worked two days, then back to original failure. Shop replaced resister again thinking it was defective. Failed again two days latter. I'll try to fix it myself and will post the fix if I can figure it out. THANK YOU for the nice suggestion, glad it worked for others !!!
I have had the same experience.
@@chriscodrington5464 Hello Chris. Sorry but I haven't done any troubleshooting yet 😞. Guess I've just been too busy with other things now. Best of luck to you!!!
Saved me a ton of time and hassle. Great video; only took me 10 minutes and a problem I have put up with for three years was fixed! Big thanks!
Good to know! Thanks.
This is awesome. Thanks. I thought I had to replace the dial in the dash. Saved me a big headache! And so easy to do.
James Cahill yes, I was happy that it didn’t take much time or expense to fix it.
Great video, I was able to get this done in less than 10 minutes. My fan control is working again...thank you!
Glad it worked for you.
It lives in this slot so it can get blown and cooled by the blower it controls... What a catch 22 LOL. Great job Chef!
Great info, Chef. I'm sure this will help someone out.
This video plus the OEM part shipped to my house for $19.73. Truck fixed! Thanks!
Great to hear! Thanks.
I had that problem and it solved it. That happened last year. Now i got the first 3 speeds and when i select 4th speed, it stops and hums.
Good looking out im a DIY guy i had this problem for weeks And I could figure out the problem with it i CZcamsd it couple times but I couldn’t find a solution Till i Have across Your Video Good Work 👍🏽
Glad I could help.
Nice fix Cheftush!
These poor resistors have a hard life. To survive, they need the slot in the air stream to be cooled. A bad design, but not only from Ford ;-)
Thank you for sharing.
Cheers Bernd
Worked perfectly! Thanks
Good to hear. I’m sure like me, you thought that it would be a pretty expensive and difficult thing to fix...I’m happy it was pretty easy and cheap.
@@cheftush Ended up saving me $500 on a used 2010 F150 I just picked up. After test driving it I googled the issue and watched your video. Then went to the dealer and negotiated the price down $500 due to the fan issue for a $15 dollar fix.
Nice fix sir.. just out off curiosity how much would the branded part cost...
This saved me from going to a mechanic
Good to hear. Thanks
Hello, my Husband just called me from work and he is telling me his AC will not turn at all. Do you think this could be the issue? I had him try all of the fan speeds and none work. It did this morning.
Thanks good video
Thank you!!
thanks tush 8/10 bob uk
My resistor is white backing with four silver blades
Tush, how did you know it was the fan resistor? The hardest part of electrical problems for me is diagnosing the problem without throwing parts at it.
mdaycoc I had done some reading up on the Ford F-150 forums and this seems like it's a pretty common issue. So, I took a low risk chance and ordered the part. If it was a higher dollar fix, I would have pulled out my meter and done some electrical diagnostics but as it was it turned out ok.
Didn't fix mine, blower went out after getting a new battery. Weird I know. It looked burnt up so I figured it was the culprit but still not working. Blend door thingy is next to replace. 2nd one on my 2011 f150. Trying everything before I drop 150 on a new blower motor.
replaced blower motor and resistor it worked then turned off then minutes later turned on what else could be the problem
Would this be the fix if… I will turn on the AC it works fine and then the blower start slowing down kind of a puttering to a stop. I’ll turn the unit off and then a couple minutes later turn it back on and it will work fine and then the fan again will slow down puttering to a stop.
Probably not...usually the speeds don’t work at all. It’s a pretty cheap part though so maybe take a gamble and change it out....
It had happen to me before its the fan motor that doesn't have any more brushes or carbons so basically it over hits the fan blower
Did you ever find out what it was? I have the slowing down issue you described

I ended up replacing the fan, it died completely.

Is the resister supposed to get hot?
@@danperks7406 should not get overly hot. Might be a little warm to the touch.
I just went through this with my 06 0 lariot do yourself a favour don't bolt the new resister in u can check it not bolted up in my case the blower only worked on high i pulled the resister it still would only work on high I bought a resister from canadian tire 60 bucks tried it same thing dammm i took it back and bought one from amazon took 3 weeks to get pluged it problem solved. resister from crappy 9 bucks on line those 10 mm bol a little tricky i was going to pull the glove box but didn't
Part number is IRCTF280
Is the part still working
Yes, working perfectly!
@@cheftush ok thanks may order the China part alot cheaper.
Had to do it to my 2013 looked exactly the same
Good to know. Thanks.
I have no power to fan, I turn on AC & Nothing! Old Fan, I tested & It Works.??? Ya Think Resistor is Bad???
Usually you will still have at least one speed on the fan so I’m not sure the resistor is the issue. Having said that, it’s easy enough and cheap enough to replace and cross it off the list off items to check.
Changed mine 2 weeks ago and problem came back today. Hopefully it’s just a bad resistor.
Motor drawing to much power . on gm you can lube the motor bearings with some atf
I love squeezing the side of the box
Replaced my resistor and it’s still not working
Did you have 1 speed before or no speeds? If it was a no speed issue, perhaps the blower motor itself is suspect.
@@cheftush I took it out and hooked it to 12v and it spun good, at first it would lag on speed 1&2 then fully stopped, the resistor I took out looked burnt up so I really thought that would be it. With the new resistor it turn on for like 4 seconds then never turned on again
Great fix. Except that rear screw was a bitch to get back in!
This does not work for the 2003.
What.. a ford broke?
Yea mine crapped out at 205,000 miles
