These bikes are incredibly popular here in Finland. I personally had one before i upgraded to a 125cc Honda monkey. Very fun to drive and good for short distance drives.

Thank you for the wonderful trip down memory lane. Had one of these in Africa in the 80's.

Fantastic. My 1st bike was exactly like this ....white Z50J Christmas 1976 as a 12 year old boy living in UAE it was awesome. I now have a Z125 Monkey, which I bought as soon as it was released. Much more fun than my big bikes! Cheers for posting.

A fun and interesting review. Thanks. You are lucky to ride on one of these. The last time I rode on one I was 15 back in the early 70s. It was the original Z50A with no rear shocks. We all had minibikes with Tecumseh or Briggs & Stratton engines. A couple of lucky ones had Z50s and one had a Kawasaki 75cc bike. Honda totally reinvented the minibike and the small 4 stroke engine in one fell swoop. Good on them. The Z50 blew the "lawnmower" bikes out of the water for trail riding and hill climbing. Then we started to get 90, 100 and 125cc dirt bikes which were even more awesome. I had a Yamaha L5T trailmaster 100cc which was old fashioned looking but quite a good trail bike. Anyway, enough reminiscing. Cheers from Canada :-)

My first bike in 1975 was a used Z50A. The bike you have there died out on you not because you ran out of fuel. It died on you because the tank air vent on the gas cap was "off". In thet position, air cannot enter the tank as you consume the fuel, and the tank will be in a vacuum, not allowing any gas to flow out the petcock . Hope this helps. 😊

Got one in my garage. It's been in repair for 16 years. Every spring for the past 5 years I try to make it go. This year is my last.. So I broke and ordered a new carb. Last year I changed the points to electronic ignition.

    Haha 😂 awesome 👏.
I just got a 1977 model, same decal but my tank etc bright yellow. Also my bike is a basket case.
The only thing that may stay original is the frame, swing arm and the exhaust. The fuel tank is ok but has a large dent in it from the handle bars.
Hope to restore it to Day One condition. Hard to find these little ones.

How do you change gears without a clutch.. or when slowing down. So it won't stall
