    Anker Lightning Cable: geni.us/DKse
    Amazon Grok Shop: www.amazon.com/shop/grokshop
    Note: If you don't have another cable handy to try, or a voltmeter to test the cable, try the "tongue buzz test": hold the end of the cable which connects to the device to your tongue & feel for the "buzz" (with the adapter plugged in). Similar to the 9v battery-test-buzz, but 45% weaker. No buzz = bad cable. If your cable is ok make sure you try a "forced restart": pressing both the home & power/reset buttons at the same time for 5-10 seconds. Good luck!

      Thank you. My first gen touch was stuck on the red battery and lightning bolt. I touched the cord to my tongue as you suggested, nothing. Then I kind of licked the end of the cord, must have cleaned it, started to tingle, plugged it in, and the touch started up and I'm back in business, thank you!

It does not damage the gold connectors. Also clean the female the same just fold it about 8 times into a point! Great for getting out lint and polishing contacts! Also will not do any damage.

    I really hope you're right! I have a gen.6 ipod touch. I've had it about 3 months and haven't gotten used to it yet, so either today or tomorrow I'm taking it to best buy and have them check this cable to see why I open it, in the center of the screen is the itunes icon and below is a picture similar to what you show of a charger to indicate it needs charging. I'm not a kid, I'm nearly 60, but we are spending a couple of weeks with our son and his family which includes a 4 year old and a 1 year old. I thought my cables were always fine, but I went through different chargers and still no power, just the same icons. I will let you know.

    I tried the cable and the charger from my IPhone and it works there, but not with the IPad 4, it does the same as the one you are showing . The cable is damage so I'm not sure what to do. I read somewhere that the IPad does not charge the same with an old IPhone cable. I think my first option would be to buy a new cable, which would you recommend? for an IPad 4. I think this should be my first option before I send it for service. Do you think this might be my problem? I think I can get it at Best Buy or Walmart. Thank you for your video, I spend most of my day searching for this info. Great video and excellent presentation.

    • @grokshop
      @grokshop  Před 6 lety

      Hi mimejormusica. And thank you for the feedback! Are they both lightning-cable -compatible devices? If so, the only difference should be the amperage rating. They should charge interchangeably, albeit at differing rates. If you are definitely getting a new charger, make sure you get one that is power-rated for your iPad. So, you want like a minimum of 12 watts and up to 30 watts. The devices wont take more current than they need and can accept. The standard iPhone charger I think is in the 5 watt range, and will take a long time to charge the iPad. My charger is still the stock iPad one, which is 12watts, but I got that ruggedized Anker cable as insurance against my kids :P

      Thank you for your response. I shut off the IPad as you explained on your video but nothing happened, the same battery with the red 1%, this time no lightning bolt, I did it again this morning the same, just left it with the old cable plug in.This afternoon I went to Best Buy and got the new certify charger but when I went to switch them, to my surprise it was charging at 36%! I couldn't believe it, now is almost done. Than you so much maybe I push it harder and/or longer, but it was worth it. I live in Panama City Fl and there is no Apple service I would have to drive to Pensacola the nearest place. Thank you so much, keep your great videos

      Right on, right on... It could be a loose connection where the cable goes into the connector, like what I experienced on this one. You will have to just monitor it & hopefully it continues to work. When my cable went out, we sometimes observed that it was not charging, but next time it would charge fine, and then not, and so on until one day it just went kaput! Good luck! PS - PC is awesome... That could be a good thing. If you cleaned the connector and the "zap" symbol went away when you plugged it in - it may now be getting the charge. But if it charges a while & still doesn't boot, you should try a a "forced restart": pressing both the home & power/reset buttons at the same time for 5-10 seconds.

    A view issues with the iPhone that won't charge. It could be a battery issue, having no charge, try a different cable, did you drop your phone or damage the inside of the connector, water damage, or is it that you tried to fix it yourself and damaged the phone itself?

    • @grokshop
      @grokshop  Před 6 lety

      Not sure I understand your question. Or maybe it was more rhetorical? This particular case was explained at the end of the video. The cable was stretched out to where the internal connections of the cable were broken. Nothing readily visible to the eye, but if you look very closely you can see how much it was stretched.

    Every single video tells me the same exact thing - I know all the basic easy fixes. However, I do appreciate the fact that you actually tested with a meter. Unfortunately I have a dead black screen 1st gen 12” iPad Pro and at this point I will most likely have to disassemble and replace battery. But it’s literally the last component so you have to remove EVERYTHING. But my fear is that the battery is not the issue.
    According to apple it will be $500 - without any real preliminary testing. After further inspection of the charging port, it looks like pin 2 from the right may have shorted. I obviously can’t put my meter into the port, but... it might just be a shadow!!! Extremely frustrating and it’s even worse that every video says “the REAL way to fix a dead iPad” - and it’s the same basic steps.
    Thank you for actually diving into the issue from a technical perspective rather than reading steps online and making a 10 min video about basic solutions that every apple user should already know.

    • @grokshop
      @grokshop  Před 5 lety

      Thank YOU for the thoughtful feedback. For your issue, its not the focus of this video, but I presume you have tried the "forced restart" thing by now. The only way I would spend 5 hundo to try & repair it is if I had critical data locked in, and even then I would try to find a reputable 3rd party data recovery person for less. Just get a new(er) one for that much. But I'm surprised they didn't offer to just look at it for free. Might still be worth going in just to see if you get any useful feedback from someone. Maybe go very early or some other time when its slow & they are bored. If you think the port may have shorts, and you felt it was important to find our for sure, you could sacrifice a lightning cable, stick it in there & split out the wires to test for shorts. Good luck!

    • @zfreshh
      @zfreshh Před 5 lety

      It was actually free for me so I’m not really concerned about it - I already have 2 MacBook Pros that I rebuilt but I’ve always wanted to own an iPad Pro, simply for the pencil. My father got the device as a gift when it first came out and the issue happened when it was just out if warranty.
      And if you’re wondering, trade-in value at the apple store was a whopping $0. But hey, they’ll go soo far out of their way to recycle it for me. AKA refurbish and sell for $500.
      They took my iPad Air 2 for $160 a few months ago - but they just assume the consumer is dumb! Even if they couldn’t repair the iPad Pro the parts alone would be nearly $500 (if there’s no serious internal damage) plus it has the 12” screen.
      I love Apple products, especially around 2008-2012ish - so so sooo easy to upgrade/replace components - but the way they operate, as it relates to customer service and pricing, will be their demise.

    • @grokshop
      @grokshop  Před 5 lety

      @@zfreshh Heh.. funny you should mention... I actually have 2 2011 MBPs going.. using a 15" one right now. I think there is still a lot of Steve Jobs in the designs of that era. But Apple actually broke the Nvidia interface for these laptops with their OS "upgrades" in recent years, so now I have to use the CPU for graphics or the OS will crash. Kinda tells the whole story right there. I don't think Steve Jobs woulda let the SW fly out the door without proper testing including regression on older devices. My thoughts are similar - they still make good stuff, but they have lost their overall vision mojo in a number of ways.

    Hey man really loved this video , I had just bought a mint condition I pad from a buy and sell site. The guy was super nice and I bought a 32 gb gold 2017 I pad off him for around 300$, when I took it home it was at 74% charge and the battery life was incredible. But when it came down to about 30% I decided I’d charge it. So I take the charger out plug it in and find out that it doesn’t even charge at all. I have this I pad supposedly under Apple care for a year. I’m starting to wonder weather it is the I pad that’s broken or malfunctioning or the charger itself. To further things I have a charger for my I phone 6 which has the same USB port but the only difference is that the I pad’s adapter charger has that portable pins that pop out and you can put em right in the socket compared to the I phone charger device only have a simple pin. Anyways. I plugged the I phone6’s charger in the I pad and the charging worked but it was super duper slow. I recognized that I pad’s charger are much more powerful compared to i phones chargers in terms of voltage differences so they charge accordingly. At this point I am still kind of confused on weather I need a new charger or a new I pad

    • @grokshop
      @grokshop  Před 6 lety +1

      Well since you got it to the charging state, your iPad would seem to be ok. In this video, I didn't get into the power supply adapters ("chargers") much, but its important to understand the combination of the charger and the cable represent 2 possible points of failure. In your case, it sounds like you may have had a bad cable. If the original cable & charger are one combined unit, then you probably need both. If there is a USB socket on your charger, then perhaps just a new cable would do you. The chargers all work at the same volts, its the current supplying capacity that varies & more current (and therefore watts) will mean faster charges (up to a point). 12w-30w is the iPad charger range.

    • @grokshop
      @grokshop  Před 5 lety

      HI Iggy. If your home button is stuck, you should be able to just hold the other button on the top to try the forced restart. If nothing happens there & you are sure your cable & charger are good, then check to make sure the lightning cable port on the iPod is clean. If that checks out, you can try to plug it into a computer with iTunes & do a Restore. But I think the stuck home button is a problem... I actually had one get partially stuck (had to press it really hard). Try this: dip a cotton swap into alcohol, then push the home button in as far as you can without breaking it & run that swap all the way around it several times - then release the button & press & release over & over to get the alcohol to penetrate. Then let it dry & see what you got - if that doesn't get it going, you may need to try the first few steps of a screen replacement procedure to get it it to free it up.

      @@jeweleighann Yeah corrosion in the port prolly, since the same cable doesn't do it with your other Apple device. Best thing is to get some electrical contact cleaner & spray it on a qtip or pipe cleaner & rub it in & out a bunch. Vinegar is like poor man's contact cleaner. Don't use too much of either because you don't want it seeping into the device. You could use an eraser if you could get to the contacts, but I doubt you can without disassembly. Also try unplugging the adapter, and wetting the contacts on the cable with some cleaner & plugging it in & out a bunch, wiping it clean periodically. Maybe a couple dozen times. It should shine up the contacts eventually.

If you have the same symptom as what I showed in he video, try sticking the end of the cable to your tongue & checking for the 5v bzzzt. If you feel the buzz on your tongue, its not the cable / adapter. If you don't feel it - try a different cable / adapter.

      Does it turn on? If it turns on and charges only to 2%, I would guess you are having some hardware failure like the battery or the charging control circuit. In that situation you'd need to take to it an Apple geek and see what they can offer you. Or you could try a third party repair guy if you can find one. But I'd still want to first try a different charge adapter and/or cable if you have them or have a friend with them- since its such an easy test.

      Hi Rajender. If you have no battery logo showing, it could still be the same issue. If your battery is completely drained, it would not be able to produce enough energy to power the screen. Have you tried another lightning cable? If that doesn't work, try the "forced restart" as described on the Apple help page: "On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold both the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo." It is also possible that you have had an internal device failure.

    Um, Lets see where do I start. Basically, it occurred yesterday, I went camping for like 2 days and forgot to bring my Ipod with me. The day I came back from camping, I found my ipod and it wasn't on charge, so I started charging it. After that, a few minutes after I see the low battery thing pop up on my screen and my charger always works, ya know? after a few times, it still wouldn't charge and I tried to power it on, but it wouldn't work. What should I do?, and I tried all this guy told me, but it still wouldn't work, HALP MEHHH, its DA only thing i have as an actual device, and I cant give up on it now..

      @grokshop  Před 5 lety

      Alina, have you already tried a "forced restart": pressing both the home & power/reset buttons at the same time for 5-10 seconds? If your problem is NOT caused by a bad cable, then this MAY work. If you have the same symptom as what I showed in he video, try sticking the end of the cable to your tongue & checking for the 5v bzzzt. If you feel the buzz on your tongue, its not the cable / adapter. If you don't feel it - try a different cable / adapter.

    Hello thank you for the video but I have a problem I'm ten years old and my parents already bought Me like 3 iPad mini4 chargers and i told my parents that It would not work and soo I'm rlly disappointed I also have a pink iPad charger but it also does not work and my iPad is dead is there anything I can do ??😭

    • @grokshop
      @grokshop  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi Edith... the mini 4 I beleive comes with a 10watt 2.1amp USB power adapter (charger) & USB to lightining cable adapter. Chances are that the power adapter is ok. So, if you have already tried different cables AND made sure you connector jack are clean & free of debris, you can try the press & hold of both the home & power/lock buttons. I have seen this trick work, but the display was blank and not showing the image of the battery & lightning connector like shown in this video. If that doesn't work, take it to an Apple store if you can. Don't give up!

    • @grokshop
      @grokshop  Před 5 lety

      According to this: discussions.apple.com/thread/5741038 the blinking battery symptom could be just a poor connection. They advise cleaning the port & cable contacts to test that possibility. Worth a shot.

    • @grokshop
      @grokshop  Před 6 lety +4

      OK that's great that you have isolated your issue to your iPad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately, this video is primarily targeted at the hard-to-detect cable failure. For cases where you are certain your cable is fine, check out some other videos for more ideas there. Pressing the Home & Reset/Power buttons simultaneously has bailed me out of that situation before, so make sure you have tried that, as well as verifying your cable port on the iPad is clean. Good luck!

    So, I was soooooooo worried that my iPad was broken at first but I was like, “hmm maybe if I take a look at the thing at the end of the charging cable where you plug it in you device” and I took a look and I saw dryed up slime pieces on the little plug and omg I was relaxed when I found out that my iPad wasn’t broken it just had dryed up slime pieces on it. I hope this helped PLEASE look carefully at you cable,the little plug in piece, and your device plug in thing. Bye!

    • @grokshop
      @grokshop  Před 5 lety

      Its called "forced restart" & does not delete apps & data. If you check the Apple link in the description, that page has more information. I think you should have it plugged in for best chance of success, in case the battery is dead. You need to get past the black screen to find out if it will take a charge or not.
