Klemmer got too aggro about the mean girls tweet. He thought he was on the right side of the politics, and then found himself playing point for a position that wasn't in the interests of the company.
However, 90 percent of the staff would've completely folded in his shoes when confronted by Dave. He basically went all in at the end there, and I think he actually earned a bit of respect from Dave by doing so.

After hearing their incoherent rambling, I looked it up, and Klemmer's tweet was completely innocuous. The way they all attacked Klemmer and threatened to fire him because it "damaged" the (non-existent) Mean Girl brand was complete bs. Dave sounded like an ass with his "hierarchy" talk.

The takeaway from this entire incident is that apparently there's only two people with principles and integrity at Barstool: Portnoy from the top-down looking at the business as a whole, and Klemmer from the bottom-up looking out for and genuinely caring about the rank and file.
EVERYONE else in this were sychophants, opportunists, fairweather friends, and other shades of scumbag who don't stand for anything other than their next paycheck, and they'll duck their heads and pretend to be objective viewers as they subversively profit off of whichever way the wind blows... but push comes to shove they'll side with whoever's in charge. If that's Dave, then fine; if that's Scumbag McGee corporate guy, that's fine too to them.
Dave would be a fool to fire Klemmer if this is how he is, and it would signal the true death of Barstool if all that was left was Portnoy and the yes-men, with nobody who'd seriously challenge him on a point of principle and be willing to walk away from the job to make a stand.
