Kent auto salvage for parts 01795 424519
Sadly DA3 is not the paint code for them cars. It’s a body code.
Your paint is “vision metallic”
The earlier pre facelift car In the scrap yard is Aquarius blue
Paint code on a focus is in the small vertical boxes up the left side not along the bottom
What makes your programme better than a lot of the others is your and Chris' sunny, smiley, cheery disposition. In the face of adversity 😃
Sad to see it scrapped when it was a sound runner.. Your standards are sometimes too high Rob, not every owner worries about a few scrapes here and there if the price is right. There's probably many people who viewed this video today from the 52K that would have bought it from you at no loss. So be it. Good content none the less.
Some people dont care if the car is bashed about as long as it drives no problems.
That car would make a perfect commuter Train Station hack. You'd never worry about getting dings or scratches.
exactly that.... could leave that car anywhere and it wouldnt be stolen... and even if it was, itd be a cheap usable car. saddens me to see em scrapping a usable car
Rob, in times gone by I’ve bought and driven cars in far worse condition and been very thankful for them. It would have been invaluable to somebody down on their luck. My dad always told me a second class drive is still better than a first class walk 😀👍
That’s saying is amazing seriously respect to your dad he’s right
@@Thisistrulyoddtv_Mark exactly what I was gonna say!
How have you managed to lose money on a £300 car than runs fine and someone would pay £700 for 😅 all you had to do was advertise it honesty for £750 and someone would have taken it off your hands.. more money than sense.. just taken a cheap car away from someone who may have been struggling.. so stupid
Made their profit from the YT video.
@@beachlife2968 not the point at all
@@danlawrence9051 Making a profit is the only point. This video had drama which got the views and comments. You can't be sentimental in business even though it may be sad a seemingly drivable car has gone to car heaven.
Totally agree what a waste of a car it still had mot until Feb 2023 and could have done someone to get back and forth to work during the winter months and for £500-£700 wouldn’t matter if it was knackered out by the next mot for that money and mots on it looked pretty clean anyway but it’s their business and it’s on their heads now
Rob after thoroughly watching this video today for the second time I wish to express in my humble opinion, that with a good clean inside and outside you could have sold it as it is and made a couple of hundred quid profit since it runs and drives.Any way no use crying over spilled milk. However you have a good bond with this gentle man called Mark from the scrap yard and made him earn a certain amount of money in selling him this car for breaking it up for spares.
You have to look at the big picture and that's what you're doing, its how successful business trade for years, glad you post this stuff to show its not all cash profit 😀
This, ladies and gentleman has been a Salvage Rebuilds HMRC production. Not all deals end up with mega profits. Sometimes you have to take one step backwards to get two step forwards.
Thanks for showing what it’s really like and the real pitfalls that can happen in this line of work.
Part of being a motortrader Rob, we all get caught once in a while. Dealing your way out of trouble is the art of the job. Knowing when to hold and when to fold!
I'm surprised you scraped it, a good valet, a secondhand bonnet and sold as seen and that would easily make £1000-1200
“ I don’t think we’re gonna earn a lot out of this one Rob “ 😂😂😂 Best line ever from Chris !!!
Focus in the scrap yard is Aquarius Blue, yours Vision Blue. It's also a pre facelift at the scrap yard. Different creases in the door too.
Edit: you made the right choice in scrapping that car, hopefully your next seizure vehicle is a better one, if there will be a next one.
Not understanding why you thought the car was so bad????? It ran good. Minor scratches on doors. Inside definitely could be cleaned. It just didnt look bad!!!!!
yea it was had to understand, why bother getting a key cut?
Cos rob is a utter plumb, without Chris’s knowledge an craftsman ship this channel would be dead an just a dale winton look alike talking crap 😂
How that car has been treated is uncalled for. It’s a shame to scrap it, these focuses are great cars, it deserved to be sold cheap to someone who will put in the work and put back on the road, didn’t need a huge lot to do.
Rob & Chris honest enough to show the ups and the downs of the business. Best car channel on CZcams.👍👍👍
For those who have followed you and Chris for sometime, we know this was simply a gamble with a very small sum of money. We know you would never do this sort of thing with any large amount of cash.
There is nothing to be down-hearted about. In fact let it be a lesson to everyone.
Onward and upward my friends 😄😄😄
Times have changed..As a Young car owner in the 80's...Car scrap yards were full of accident damage or Rotten cars...Today you'll see stacks of straight 10 year old cars with unviable repair expense costs ...It's a throw away society now..and business is business..Its as if there has been a 360 in the decades...40 years ago you'd have good motors in Rotten cars...Today you have Rotten engines and electronics in solid cars..
That car could have been easily saved, what a complete waste it was a little bit of cosmetic damage
I thought the same. There is more than one salvage yard in the UK......
@chris jones could have given it to someone who was willing to save it. Not much of a salvage channel if they get beaten by 2 doors.
@chris jones that’s no excuse, that car was fine, ran perfect all it needed was a clean, who cares about the scratches they don’t stop it from driving
That would have been a great runabout for someone on a tight budget, I think it’s a British thing, people in Europe or further afield don’t have the same attitude towards the cosmetics that we have.
I totally understand why they want to keep a good relationship with the breakers yard though.
Such a shame a good running car had to be scrapped. I would’ve happily paid a grand for that in that condition and used it as a runaround. The dents and scrapes wouldn’t have bothered me.
And wen the cam belt snapped you would have wanted your money back it’s scrap bud
I reckon you could have cleaned it and had a small profit out of it. At £595 it would have made a cheap runabout for someone to get them out of trouble.
Would have made a great freebie for a young subscriber. Love cars but hate the throwaway society we live in 😕
Not a car to be scrapped in the current climate (unless unsafe)
I bet someone would have paid about £600 for a cheap run about.
Still a good wedding car up north is that car lol
Who dares Rodney 😂. You did the best thing. A good warning to those who think you job is easy
I've never met anyone yet, private buyer or professional who hasn't bought a pig, it's life and I don't expect I ever will meet someone who hasn't. You both did the right thing by letting Kent Auto Salvage take it.
I'd have been tempted to just give it a good clean as good as possible, check mechanicals were OK then sell as is, dings and all. Cheap runabout.
That blue doors you was comparing at the scrap yard was a door to the pre facelift focus. So it would have been wrong regardless. But never the less. Great content!
Rob, it’s not just the colour, the pre-facelift doors are a slightly different shape, you can see the creases under the handles on your one, not the same on the one at the yard.
Surely that would of done somebody for £500...
Chris looked peed right off 😂😂
For a dvla car seizure thats pretty clean, I buy many off them and thats above average. Especially at that price as the scrap men are bidding 340 min for cars now.
Rob that was never a loss..... been watching your channel from the start and the number of times you said Mark let us have these bits free of charge im pretty sure your still well in profit 👌 also nice to return a favour to someone who looks after you 👏👏
Omg the audio is absolutely spot on, well done Rob. The vids are perfect for me now, right balance between quality and content without the faffy overproduction you see on TV and other channels. Top job 👍👍
We love the content regardless of profit. Don't forget Chris did find 20p
Even if it was the right colour the door lines in the panel are completely different needs to be a cars 08 and above rob
He's looking at a mk2 door for a mk2.5 car
That's been a work car service clean up down the road for a grand 👍
That car is actually twice as good as my current Ford Focus 😞
Gutted you scrapped it. why didn't you offer it for sale at a price between what it owed you and scrap price ...... I would of used that :)
Good honest video Rob & Chris. That's life, we don't fall in 💩 and come up smelling of 🌹's all the time. 👍👍👍
It wasn't a bad buy. I drive worse than that to work every day. End of the day, it's got a 1.6TDCI/HDI in that ran nice. Gonna be kicking yourself next week if you buy a Berlingo that wants an engine.
That money isn't lost, it's worth every penny in goodwill with Kent auto salvage.
Ah no! That didn't deserved to get scrapped. That was a working on the road car! You could've at least got £1k for that knowing the price used cars, I would've loved that myself as its a lovely colour and only cosmetic easy to put right and paint too. It wouldn't even have put the slightest dent in your reputation to have sold that on. But anyway next time guys , keep up the good work.
When I was desperate for transport I would have been happy to buy that from you for the price you paid.
Surely a quick clean and MOT to keep someone on the road??
You've got to know when to hold em, know when ta fold em, know when ta stop and walk away. Decent gambler Rob is... wins on all the other punts, this one was a good little lesson for all the viewers. That sometimes it's just worth it. Fold and move on to the next deal!
Rob and Chris, this car project shows that, as you said a few vids ago; salvage rebuilds repair vehicles and post that content and not youtubers that repair vehicles for content. Fair play that when you see the reality of a car bought online that is very different from expectations you take a pragmatic approach. No shame or blame and a wise choice not to spend time and money on a loss maker. Please keep posting, the content is interesting and educational.
I bought and drove cars like that for years, good clean inside and away you go. First hint of a big bill and off to the scrap yard. Great video as usual , better luck with the next one 👍.
@ 14:00.That skin on the donor door is completely different, the mk2.5 focus (08-12) had a designer fold going down the complete side of the car . The mk2.0 (05-08) didnt
As long as the shape and hinge/lock placement is the same, you’re golden.
Those doors that were a different colour wouldn’t of lined up anyway as they were from a prefacelift and have a different body line
Usually i would agree with what you guys do but in this case i have to say i think i would have just cleaned it up as best as possible and sold it on, someone would have got some use out of it and improved it over time, shame really
Totally agree
Newer than either of the motors I drive, looked like it had plenty of life left in it, shame to see it scrapped, would have been ideal for bangernomics.
Just love it how Chris goes for the change under the seats!!
£312.......... however good news is already got 20p of that back thanks to Chris' eagle eye - shame it wasn't full of loose change ha ha ha
The trouble with selling it on as a runabout is that if anything goes wrong with it you will get comebacks. The cars that you repair and sell have a guarantee of your workmanship whereas this car does not so can only be sold as seen and that is not what you guys are about. I don’t blame you for scrapping it and now at least you know where the car is if in future you need spares 😀👍
You've got to know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em...
All in all, I think this example is a positive reflection of your standards. Someone might let the doors and wing stay as they are and sell it off cheap, but you don't do that. You either make it nice of let it go. Good on you!
Yeah I can't get on with scrapping "runs and drives" unless its a major MOT failure. The amount of mobile junk heaps I've had as courtesy cars shows there was life left in this thing yet, the dirt could of been cleaned up or replaced and the worst dents knocked out. Still it's your money so....
Shame to scrap a car like this that could of done someone on a budget. Real throw away society these days.
Rob I’ve just been reading a lot of the other comments. If this is your only loss for 2022 then believe me you’ve had a “Right Tickle” son !!! Good Luck 😉
Congratulations, lads on the use of your new microphones! They make such a difference and we can now hear Chris perfectly. Thanks for all your efforts. And I can tell you're actually really gutted to have to scrap that car. It was obviously a decorator's 'van' for the final years of its life.
That’s why we are engaged with all your videos, the honesty and genuine nature of buying and salvaging cars, as always an excellent video.
I'd buy half a dozen at the dvla seizure auction, meet the key guy down there, he'd do the keys, half of them had been abandoned due to serious mechanical issues, stopped going eventually.
I reckon you could have easily sold it on for £500 as is, anything round here with a bit of ticket on it would sell the same day, I have sold a lot worse 🤣
Best bit was the leaves painted all over it on the blue base coat. So realistic.
Definitely the right thing to do! As you say, you're also helping out with giving them a car to recycle, the old phrase..
"You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" comes to mind!
Keep up the good work on these vids.👍
I’ve sold a car worse than this which was vandalised. The person who bought it worked in car body work an paint. This would of been ideal for someone like that IMO, someone with the capabilities coulda earned themselves some penny’s for a little weekend work
That’s a shame Rob. I’d have paid you what you were owed for it and driven it away. Chuck a cheap secondhand interior in from the scrapyard and a couple of doors, job done.
Those roof bars are the most valuable part!
The focus in the yard was a mk2 the one you scrapped is a MK2.5 same car underneath but different body lights bumper etc
Sometimes you’ve just got to cut your losses, that’s good business in my book
my daily driver has more damage than that ! sadly a thumbs down for me on this one gents.
Hi guys, it is just one of those things, win some, loose some. You are doing the right thing with this one, if you sold it to a private punter, the age and miles, they would be blaming you for selling them a dog. Buyer beware hits us all at some time, an you usually come out on top. I agree with Rob, it was worth the gamble, and it will pay you back via Mark at scrap yard, good shout guys. Thank you for still sharing. Top Channel.
Them doors are actually pre facelift too. The crease at door handle level is sharp/ more pronounced on the facelift and a lot more subtle on the pre facelift. So the body line would be totally different
It was a scabby car but if the chassis is good then I wouldn't scrap it. Put it through an auction because someone who is desperate for a cheap runabout would bid on it.
Microphones working nicely.... Silver linings 😁👍
Honest and genuine fellas as normal 👌 all that glitters is not gold. Did the best thing in the circumstances you will your rewards on another vehicle no good throwing good money after bad .stay lucky and healthy looking forward to Friday's video 📹 😊 already.
I have to say this video made me laugh because we've all bought dogs, so good to know we're in good company lol - when Rob opened the rear door and noticed the hole I literally laughed out loud. Nice to see the bad side of things too so hats off for sharing your fail!!! :-)
Seems a waste to have scrapped this, perfectly good car that would have done well with a good clean and been a good cheap car for someone.
Both doors are blue, be a good run around for some poor blighter. 😁
A decent bonnet would have tipped the scales, I think.
Hi Rob & Chris,it was worth a shout , shame it wasn't to be,as you said, Mark has help you guys out in the pass & he's happy with the car, also that's another buy from customs & hopefully more to come.
99.9% of cars uplifted & sold by DVLA are because of NO tax...test...insurance...&..are too expensive to repair & put back on road...these cars are only worth 2 balloons 🎈 & a bag of marbles...lesson learnt lads , we,ve all blew ££ in car trade...looking forward to fridays video..
"It is what it is", as you say no problem, Rob.
Seems a shame to scrap a runner, someone could of used as is,seen worse on the roads
The body line that runs down through the handles is different anyway, you would have needed the facelift doors, they aren’t interchangeable
Well spotted, I don’t think Rob noticed that.
as always a sound decision and an honest video showing the ups and downs of any business -- onwards and upwards
Rob, don’t beat yourself up….. you know that you’ll get your money back when it comes to needing parts later on for other projects. An old boss of mine used to say, “sometimes chicken sometimes feathers”!
Maybe Chris could of found some cash in the car to help prop up the loss
Total waste. Nothing wrong with it, no need to scrap.
Totally agree a few bang on it and they scrap it I smashed my Peugeot 207 on a gate post and it caused similar damage to what they had and I got it fixed for £350 and the car is worth £3000 mine is 2010 like the focus and yeah mine is automatic and low mileage but even so you don’t just scrap a car because it’s got a few bangs on it they could have easily got it fixed like I got mine fixed and you cannot tell it’s ever been banged and I still have it now perfectly fine you don’t. Just scrap it because of a bang or crash it’s not mechanical it’s body work damage and the damage on the focus they had wasn’t mot failing damage either as it didn’t have any metal protruding out to Cause a danger and they could sold it for £800 - £1000 even with the mileage as some people don’t have a big budget for car and it being that it’s from 2010 and diesel what a waste
I agree, lots of life still left in that car
Loving the sound quality with the mics nice addition keep up the fantastic work on the channel
Time is something you can never get back…..
Probably would have done someone as a cheap work car, plasterer or labourer.
Well if you were to ask me I think that was one of your most interesting videos. I just find it a shame that's a2010 vehicle has to die. I live in Ireland and I'm always wondering would it make more sense for me to get a car from England or would it be too dear I have a little Volkswagen Caddy van that I bought from new and would love to get a Nissan Qashqai maybe something that has a small bit of work to do to it
There’s far worse cars on Facebook Market Place but that has had its day. Clearly a painter and decorators car. It’s good to see that there is not always profit in cars, and knowing when to swerve the bad ones. Made a good video by the way 😀
The joys of being colour blind that match looked perfect to me 🤣🤣🤣
Seems a massive waste to me, that’s exactly the kind of car I’d use as a run around
Exactly.
There is a car breakers in Wokingham where you can go in as the general public to remove parts yourself and you can see them do the de-pol there on site. Been there many times myself and thoroughly enjoyed my time there searching for parts
Well you know when you think to yourself "I haven't seen a ______ for years I wonder what happened to them, there used to be 1000s of them on the road."
Well now you all know where they go.
I have restored enough cars to know that Focus would have got pretty pricey unless you had a parts car and at the end of the day it's still a 12ish year old economy car. You either do it as a labor of love or you cut your loses. I get it, I hate seeing perfectly good cars (although beat up a bit) meet their fate at the junkyard but there just isn't any money to be made.
Off note, here in the states diesel vehicles are pretty rare I got diesel envy for the amount of oil burners you all have in the UK.
Swings and roundabouts mate. That's what makes this a good business when you help each other out. Great upload and shows the realism of the trade.
