    I had glottoplasty here in the UK back in January this year under the careful hands of Chadwan Al Yaghchi. It's been 10 months now and I can honestly say the surgery has changed my life in such a positive way. My resting pitch is much higher now, I never get misgendered on the phone and I'm finally getting back to singing again, albeit in a higher range now. Complete voice rest is an absolute must in the first few weeks but those weeks of silence are worth the elation afterwards.

      I’m a singer as well and I‘ve wanted to get this procedure. How has it affected your ability to sing?

    • @TruckerReena
      @TruckerReena Před rokem +1

      @@jaimefillingim2293 well obviously everyone is different but for me the results have been great in terms of my range increase. I used to have a 3 octave range from F2 up to F5, at a very hard push I could get a G5 sometimes. Since the surgery my voice is now a D3 at its lowest and a C#6 (checked just 2 days ago) at its very highest with an 8 semitone increase, so yeah, I'm able to reach notes that I've never been able to reach before.
      In terms of singing though, this is more of a mental thing since my brain is still programmed to sing the way it used to for all those years before. I'm probably going to need some singing lessons in order to sing in a way I've never been able to sing before using notes I haven't had access to since my early teens but I'm confident it will work out ok. I'm only just over 11 months since I had my surgery so I'm not expecting miracles this early on in recovery with relation to being able to sing again.
      In terms of voice, there are days when it isn't the best, like first thing in the morning and it can fluctuate in pitch throughout the day. My lowest pitch for speaking can average about 180hz and my high end average can be around 280/290hz sometimes but normally I'm around the 220-230hz mark. When you consider my low end before surgery could be as low as 135hz I'm not really bothered about throwing in some low notes here and there.
      Obviously as mentioned before, I didn't have my surgery with Dr Spiegel but the technique is similar. I had the traditional glottoplasty with the added scaring along both sides of the vocal cords to add the extra bit of tightness. The aftercare immediately after waking from surgery is critical though. No coughing/clearing your throat, no sneezing and no whispering for at least a week. If you're doing something that causes any sort of noise to come out of your mouth you risk hindering your recovery and the outcome from it. Once you do start speaking for the first time your voice will be very weak, sound quite hoarse and will sound much higher than you might expect, this is normal and it will settle in the coming weeks/months. People who I'd meet for the first time would gender me as female but would question why my voice sounded so hoarse. I'd just tell them I'd got a touch of laryngitis because that's what it sounds like during the first stages of recovery. Hope you manage to follow through with getting surgery, it's literally changed my life!

      I appreciate these words of encouragement, Trucker. I had this procedure done by Dr Spiegel today and am focusing on the end goal so I can stay silent during recovery. 😊

      @alexianunez5453 congratulations on the surgery. I'm almost 15 months post op now and it's still the best decision I made. Just focus on the recovery now and don't get too anxious in the early stages of using your voice. It's going to be weak and tiring at first, it'll sound hoarse too but all that goes away in time.

    I kid, you’re awesome.

    Interesting. I wasn't aware this is possible. Out of curiosity, can you do the opposite as well? I mean to turn a guy's voice sound low pitched and deeper.

      @@thespiegelcenter well, there goes any hopes for that operation. the voice might be important, but so are so many other things. Due to a long life of dysphoria and the lack of doing anything about it, most people wont have the steady income to actually pay that, we are talking people who have lived their life with a handicap, you can't expect them to be able to cough that much out of their pocket.
      if it truely is that expensive to do the procedure, you should consider making it possible for people to pay it off month by month over a period of 10 years, for it to be affordable for them. Otherwise your surgeons probably wont get much experience but cleaning the operation table for dust.
