Nonchalant1996 I must have listened to this thousands of times now, ever since I first heard it off twenty six mixes for cash, and yet I can still listen to it regularly.... it is quite rare to find that. In anything.
Everything about this man is quality over quantity. (Though I know many who, upon listening, would utter something along the lines of "There are too many notes!") X)
i had the same experience but with WindowLicker that was the first song of his i ever heard on MTV and it blew my mind and opened up a whole world of music that i was unaware of
Coimbra, a little city in the center of Portugal, midway between Porto and Lisboa. As all around the world, you feel the modernity there, cars, smartphones, bars, clubs, companies.. but within the city walls remains a powerful and enigmatic energy that sweep the time away. Portuguese peoples would probably call that the " Saudades" spirit. The weight of the past releases so much beauty, that you end up trapped into a state of smooth melancholy. The barriers of time are falling down, and for a few minutes you are touching the infinity. With Journey, I rediscover this feeling. And I see myself again at the top of this ageless city, at the time when the sunset is blessing peoples and the Mondego river reflecting their souls. I still dont know if Coimbra have been built for this track, or this track have been recorded for this city, but they will for sure always embrace themselves.
I remember hearing something like this from "SEVEN FORTY SEVEN" FROM boards of Canada' This is very similar, it has the same introspective, natural and hopeful footprint I like this one a lot more because it offers me a whole setting of scenery in small details, I can create an entire fantasy universe straight from this sounds.
Listening to this 20+ years after release the subtlety that RDJ showed in the remix is such a delight, and a rarity. It's funny how you can "date" his remixes by their sound.
Next to the Beatles' "White Album", and Spinal Tap's "Smell the Glove", "26 Mixes For Cash" has one of the most interesting album covers I've ever seen.
I'm not sure why, but this song and this "26 Mixes for Cash" album just reminds me of Los Angeles via the world of director David Lynch's Mulholland Drive. Even though I've never been to LA itself, this song somehow transports me there, amidst the weirdness and 50s-esque glory that may or may not be there. Some sort of bliss engages my being when I listen to the woman's words here. As if I'm invited and taking part in a grand party -- a party of bliss.
I've spend a lot of time in LA and your right this is very LA. I was on Sunset BLVD and this woman looking like the guy from behind Winkies asked me if I "gotta light" for her crack pipe. David Lynch is very good at characterizing the surreal horror of that area. And this Xanax luxury elite sounding song works well with it too.
"This trip is an endless story" Yes, still in 2022 is an endless story and an endless love for this track...first time in 1999, maybe listened for 10,000 times in 23 years...no doubts if I say that it's the best track that i've heard in my life...thanks to Gentle People that made the original masterpiece
I looked up this album after reading your comment and read the comment section and realized that your comment was one of the craziest comments I have ever read
This song fills me with profound sadness for some reason. Maybe it's because the melody sounds incredibly melancholic, even regretful; like someone who has made the worst decision of their life and now has to live with the consequences for the rest of their life.
Megane kun well, on my perspective, it's more like the beginning of a bad idea, like, starts like everything is dance and happiness, then, it gets a little sadder, like the begging of a journey, where do you expect an adventure and traveling, but you end with nothing more than a box of bubblegum and cigarettes, this song it's my favorite from all the album tho, pretty good :')
not so melancholic sounds ... just terribly hypnotic, this song is a mirror , it sends you back into you. this song is as much sadness as wisdom as power as love ...
Am I the only one who thinks this is an homage to the great jazz song "Rodney Yates" by David Holmes? I think it's a great track, btw, and shows that Richard James got close to jazz....nay, it's proof! He is a jazz man!
Despite being a 'young' person I couldn't agree more. MP3s and the internet have largely killed the soul of music in my opinion. However, the internet has made a broader range of music more accessible. But that said you still have to go and look for it, perhaps if decent stores still existed it would be found too.
@222444adam the reason I was able to find and download this song that mesmerized me long ago is that the music world is changing so I can find and buy more variety, one-by-one collect the songs I love.
imo the most underrated aphex twin track

Well, it’s not, it’s a remix
six years later, this song has still less than 40.000 views. Weird. I think this is one of the very best stuff Aphex has ever produced.
.begbat. Yep but it’s better this way
Everything about this man is quality over quantity. (Though I know many who, upon listening, would utter something along the lines of "There are too many notes!") X)
Definitely
It's over 86K now
@Clandestine Merkaba
It's funny, have never thought about this, but when it comes to Afx it's actually: quality equals quantity.
Think about it..
I know it might sound silly, but I'm being honest when I say that the first time I listened to this song it changed my life
Arthur R what happened ?
@@spratch i guess he couldn't explain it in human words.
Not laughing Arthur I understand where you’re coming from.

Had 26 Mixes for years and this song just hit me fully. Holy hell it's beautiful.
Redna Zela I'm sure about that!
+Redna Zela its one of those tracks
agreed, one of my favs on this release.
yeah I can clearly remember buying the double cd, then listening to this track like "whoooooaaaaah so luuuuush"
those strings...they just tear me apart...don't fall for the con tricks folks, life is too beautiful.
I'm re-listening to 26-mixes for the first time in 15 years or so, this track is bringing a smile to my face.
never forget this journey riding the bow to a sunset x
Still such a tune all these years later, from the start vocals to the swirly synths it never wanes, one of his best remixes

This tracks always sends me to some old forgotten city in time but in my fantasy its still living.
lovely, thank you for that

Pretty funny how the most simple of designs can be the most interesting to look at.
Tri Repetae by Autechre
Prince - Black album.,.,.,
Not covers, remixes. The Kings of Convenience’s Versus is also great.

Beautiful I like Lynch and Mullholand Drive movie. This will fit in nicely 😊
Such a beautiful song. Pretty hyptonic
Whether things are very hectic or very dull... Anyone who has anger/boredom should hear this tune well

for some reason I love listening to this on Christmas Day (and most other days as it goes) - beautiful, evocative, music to write stories to..
This is The Gentle People remixed by Richard, errybody.
6:24 when I fell in love all over again this past summer

This Remix, Alabama by Coltrane and Honeggers Liturgique are the best things I have ever musically experienced in my life.
The gift that keeps on giving
listened to this tune whilst listening to "Vision, Creation, New Sun" by boredoms - one of the most endless experiences of my life!
I looked up this album after reading your comment and read the comment section and realized that your comment was one of the craziest comments I have ever read
this is incredibly beautiful
It's so smooth, and relaxing.
While gazing the last stop of the eclipse I was definitely transported even more into this journey !
I remember hearing this on an episode of Top Gear years ago and just had to find it again. Very relaxing music for driving.
One of his best!
Joel West indeed! and considering who we have here it is pretty challenging to pick up a short selection of them...
From a journey to the Mediterranean to a journey to the farside of the Moon. Richard is something else.
This song is dreamy

I hear it too! The string sections here (towards the end) and in “Rodney Yates” (also towards the end) by DH are very similar. 👍🏾
Love this, very underrated
