    My zebra finch Gizmo just had eggs! He pushed out nearly all of them but one. Candled it, and it’s around day 13 or so I would guess! Thank you for posting this video!! It really helped me a lot in identifying the different stages of egg growth!

    Hello. Good video. Congrats on all the eggs. It's hard to resist looking in the nest boxes and you like to show everyone on video but I would caution you to not handle the aviary Gouldians nest boxes too much. They will abandon the eggs or throw chicks from the nest when they hatch if they smell the human scent.
    I never use to look in the nest until I could hear the chicks and they were at least a week old. I had huge success with this method.
    Since your society hen is not a good layer, I would use your society finches to foster other finch eggs. They will incubate any eggs you put in there and raise the babies.
    We are building a house and I hope to raise finches again myself. I specialized in exotic finches for 15 years. I sold alot of babies.
    I hope you find this advice helpful. I only want much success for you! Take care!

      Thank you, yes it always a struggle to leave them alone and take you guys along. So I indeed wait or be as quick as possible. Maybe I will try fostering, also looking for a new pair. Hope you will get an aviary again. You really love the Birds.

      @@MrAviary oh yes, I have love birds since I was a child. Alway use the societies to foster and you will have success. Put one egg a day into the nest just as if she laid them until you have a full clutch under her. I put a sticky note paper with the date on the outside of the box. Good luck!
      Yes, have willpower and don't look...ha ha. Listen for the chicks in the aviary. You will hear them begging for food. Don't look until a week after hatching. You can do it....ha ha ha!

      Unfertilized eggs are never fertilized by the male and therefore it will never grow a chick inside.

      The best is that it is fed after a couple of hours. But sometimes the parents start feeding later. In my experience the chicks can survive at least 12 hours without food the first day

    • @MrAviary
      @MrAviary  Před rokem

      Maybe try selling them on Facebook or maybe your local pet shop. If you cant house the chicks correctly just try to not breed them. You can just not provide a nest box. She will probably stop laying eggs so she can rest for now.
