      I always thought Chad had a raw vibe. It almost sounded like he had very little bass in the drumming or Grohl had a better drum kit, I don't know if that makes sense. I'm not a musician but I guess Grohl sounded more refined for the mainstream audience. I prefer Chad.

      @VendPrekmurec Před 4 lety +20

      @@andrepereira744 Nirvana released at least 4 singles, many demos with Chad Channing; In Bloom even have had its original video in 1990. Not to mention Lithium, Polly was a well known Nirvana song before Nevermind came out, they were generally performing it in the "electric" version already in 1989. Stay away was called Come and Play, etc... Breed was originally called Imodium, I think that I have even heard Drain you version from 1990 performed by a drummer from the Melvins...Smells like Teen Spirit was originally recorded (but I suspect they were testing that song and Lithium already with Chad too, but Kurt was not "pleased" with his performance). So that means that 1/2 of the tabs for drums in the whole Nevermind album could have been already written by Chad and not Dave Grohl.

I'm not going to lie, it does look like he's a light hitter, and in a small room like that one video on With The Lights Out (Nirvana rehearsal at Krist's mothers house), it probably sounded great there, but if even.... I see people saying Dave was a better drummer and all that and let me say this: I think they are both good drummers in their own ways. Dave Grohl has this insane power on the drums no one else possessed and was more technically skilled, while Chad created drum parts that were simple and creative. My point being: I liked them both

    The technicality in his drumming was almost better than Dave’s in some ways. Dave as he puts is only a straight forward disco drummer besides hitting really hard and playing fast the beats are decently basic. Watching / listening to this gives me more respect for Chad Channing. Thanks for the upload wish there was more songs like this! Or is there more out there? @@dashwig he’s off time but tight? Whaaaaaa?

    • @dashwig
      @dashwig Před 3 lety +1

      @@nickfanzo Yep. You need to understand that playing tight does not necessarily imply being 100% on the click all the time. off-click is not autimatically sloppy or wonky. Being tight (same with so called "playing in the pocket" ) is something different, more of a feel.
      If you listen to albums that were recorded before the digital age/protool and all that stuff you'll notice that. Or albums that were made quick , with low budget (so was Nirvana's bleach, lots of other Punk stuff etc..).
      And of course in a lot of live situations: a band might be off the click, that's totally normal and human
      But they can still sound very tight as a unit without having that damn click in their in ears.
      The more precise a drummer can keep time by himself, the better of course. But it's no big news that being stuck to the click 100% creates a large amount of very boring, generic music.
