    Here's a little known fact:
Because of the distance Carpathia had to travel to get to Titanic in the time it did, it had to push it's engines _way past_ it's the intended limits. It was said the chef engineer put his hat over the main steam pressure valve just so the crew would not see just how far they were pushing the engines. Far enough that it permanently damaged the engines, and Carpathia never again exceeded 12 knots (it's intended maximum was 14 knots. It's was doing 17 when it went for Titanic).
Most likely that handicap played a role in it's later sinking.

I believe there is a curse. It was sheer negligence that cost those 1500 lives on the Titanic, and I think those spirits are still ticked off. Consider the much-maligned Carnival Cruises. One can say those boats are descendants of the Titanic. The sinking bankrupted its parent company, White Star, and was bought out by the rival Cunard - the parent company of Carnival.

Every ship that sunk back then had the same thing in common: All of them suffered irreparable damage to their starboard side, near or just under the bridge, and all of them sank by the bow. The Titanic's hull was gashed open on the starboard side by an iceberg, the Britannic ran over a sea mine laid by a minelaying German u-boat, blowing a hole in the bow on the starboard side, the Lusitania was hit in the starboard side by a torpedo from a u-boat, the Carpathia was also hit by a torpedo, also on the starboard side, the Empress of Ireland sank after the Storstad crashed into it's starboard side, near the bridge, and the Andrea Doria sank after the Stockholm ran into the starboard side, just under the bridge. The only ship that didn't sink bow first was the Bismarck, and evidence has shown that the crew deliberately scuttled the ship, rather than letting it fall into British hands or let them claim credit for sinking it.

And then later all the years it sailed until this. It's about time this ship had its history and name known along with all the crew that deserves to be remembered. If you read all the transmissions logs, the ones that Carpathia sent back were really such a relief. They were the only ones who positively confirmed they were coming and were comforting the transmission officers. "We are coming for you at full speed." It must have been such a relief. @@DANIELLE_BREANNA_LACY Do you think Titanic might have survived being torpedoed by a U-Boat had she made it to 1915? I do wonder if she would have held up better than Lusitania because of her more "modern" watertight compartment systems. But maybe the lack of watertight tops may have done her in again here? Another I've wrestled with is how much damage Titanic could take from resulting explosions after the torpedo strike. If one of her coal bunkers got hit like on Lusitania, maybe it could have similarly shattered her compartments.
