    (1) If you're cruising around in heavy rain/snow at a normal speed, leave it on. It should help lessen tire slippage.
    (2) If you happen to get stuck in snow for example - turn it OFF. In this case, you actually want tire slippage, which should allow you to rock the car forward/backward to get out of the snow.
    Or, just turn it OFF if you're driving really slowly through thick snow and you want the tire slippage to keep you moving forward.

      Don't forget that the T/C is also a stability control. Actuates the rear brakes. Sort of a half baked version of Acura's SH-AWD for FWD cars.

      Can you turn if on or off while driving (i.e. when approach steep hill with deep snow turn if off and gear down )? I read somewhere that with traction control on , engine power is cut off to slipping tire which you do not want since you are climbing steep hill and tires will be slipping. txs

  • @crabtrap
    @crabtrap Před 3 lety +6

    TRANSLATION: the TRACTION CONTROL is ALWAYS 'ON' unless you turn it OFF with the button. the TRACTION CONTROL will automatically reset to "ON" when you restart your Honda. TIP: if your TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR LIGHT is ON the TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM and monitoring system won't engage!
    (safety feature to stop uneven traction from a low pressured tire)
    IF YOU SEE YOUR "SLIPPERY CAR LIGHT ICON" flicker that only means the traction control is engaging in real-time for slippery snowy,muddy or wet conditions.....that is what it is supposed to do (good idea to slow done too if you see the flickering).
    SUMMERY: the traction system works well but demands that your tires are properly inflated. leave the system active unless road racing as it effects : RPM, shifting, braking and the drive differential.

    I turn it off a few times a year when going through deep snow at low speeds. If you can't spin the wheels you will come to a stop. An example is when my street isn't plowed but the street I'm turning onto is, you are driving though what the plow left. It is a modest hill with a stop sign too. You do your best not to stop. You are doing about 10 to 15 mph, tires are 25 to 35 mph. Also turn it off when going through bumper deep snow. I turn it back on as soon as the snow depth is a few inches. Traction control is a very import safety device when driving on slippery roads.

    • @Jason99942
      @Jason99942 Před 6 lety

      I actually don't have traction or stability control on my 2007 Accord (i4 / 5mt). Do you find it helping when launching from a stop light in slippery conditions for example? Even with Nokian Hakka. snow tires on, I find I slip a bit at a light before gaining decent traction.

    • @danr1920
      @danr1920 Před 6 lety

      Not so much launching, but preventing you form coming to a stop. You need to keep your momentum up. That would mean blowing through the stop sign at 10 to 25 mph. This would be deep snow, if you stop in it, you aren't going anywhere. The tires are going in the 20-30 mph range.

  • @NoEgg4u
    @NoEgg4u Před 3 lety

    The traction control button does not turn off traction control, even though the manual reads that it does, and even though the dashboard lights up that it is off. It is not true.
    The traction control has 3 settings.
    1) Fully on (this is the default).
    2) Partially on (this is when you press the button that pretends to turn traction control off).
    3) Off (this one is not available -- well, not easy to attain).
    If you are taking a hard turn at, for example, 40 MPH, and you give the car lots of gas, it will not accelerate when in mode 1 or 2 (as described above). It will maintain speed, or perhaps it might slightly accelerate. But you can have the gas pedal floored on a hard turn, and you will not speed up in any meaningful way. This is because traction control is still engaged.
    If you turn it off completely, the dashboard icon will blink. Then if you take the same turn as described above, the car will pull hard on any turn when you mash down on the gas pedal.
    You might have an accident, kill yourself or others. So I am not encouraging anyone to do this. I am only pointing out that Honda does not let you fully turn off traction control. It can be done, however, if you jump through hoops with Honda.

    Just remember that turning Traction Control off is also turning stability control off too. Stability helps stop a skid from happening. If one does manage to happen with Stability Control, you can best believe it will help you way more with the system on than off.
    Trust me. I'm talking from experience here.

      Sankha Dahanaggala.
      Always leave your traction control on during all rainy days.
      If you don’t know what you’re doing, it’s best to always leave your traction control turned on. You minimize your risk of hurting your tires/cars with it always on.

    • @Jason99942
      @Jason99942 Před 6 lety +2

      My understanding is that you would only need to disable traction control (OFF) if you find yourself stuck in heavy snow. In that case, you actually want your tire slippage, so you can rock your car forward/backward to get out of the snow.

      If you drive at 65 mpg on the highway with eco mode on you can get up to 38 mpg. Faster than 65mph means higher RPM, the higher the RPM the more gas you are using. Is always best if driving at speed limit. I know we all sometimes drive a little faster, but at least that is what i have notice. Hope this helps. Blessings

    • @sareykim
      @sareykim Před 6 lety +2

      Jasmine Kaur Sidhu.
      If by skid off you mean traction control being turned on, then having skid on (or traction control off) is always more dangerous, whether it is good weather, or on rainy days.
      The only time a normal drive would want to turn traction control off is to get out of snow when you’re stuck.
