this is the thing, even fast vehicles that turn, atmospheric resistance will effect the speed they travel. it is why we try to get so high in the atmosphere... but if they pass into space they shouldn't still be considered aircraft. they become missiles / rockets and satelites. in space you can go as fast as you want as long as you have fuel to burn and a wide enough spread for it to increase the speed. so mach 27 is capable of being reached, but i do feel its not IN atmosphere.... reentry will still slow it down and every turn especially as a glider would slow it down... hence very wide turns... the sharper the turn the more it will slow it down... at least at our current "non black" project knowledge envelope. the thing is to make it turn faster so it slows down, especially if its a glider... so in my opinion if you want it to reach target you'd still need a predictable point where it would descend... i'm curious when air burst munitions will be equipped with concussive warheads to both interfere with electronics of an incoming projectial and for disruption of both the flight path and potentially the projectile itself... ? eh lasers will get stronger and stronger, mach 27 still can't hide from them.
