For a guy who owns a 2005 nissan altima with all the same problems you mentioned as well as the hood prop being broken, this gave me some laughs. Thanks for the video.
Welcome James. That's pretty funny.
Hood clip is an easy fix.. I fixed my daughters for less than 1$.. drill a small hold thru the remainder of the base clip and interlink 2 washers with a zip tie.. just place the end of the prop rod into one of the zip tie circles and it holds fine. Hers has been like this for years.. 😊 I hate the cooling systems on these cars!! Grrr.
Rare honesty in a CZcams video about cars.
agreed.
You are absolutely right about that.
7 years later and I gotta say thank you for this video. Your contribution is greatly appreciated
"That's horseshit is what it is, they suck!"
Ahhhh how refreshing ... non filtered honest criticism!!!
My dad has a frontier (in the bow hunting video) and so does my brother-in-law. They have both had this same component fail. My cousin's Armada- same thing. ALL of them still LOVE their Nissans and would buy them again in a heart beat. NONE of them work on them at all. I'm happy for you about the Xterra. I'm glad you like it!
Couldnt agree more. I would never buy another nissan again. I've had so many so many problems and wayyyy to much money later.
I have about 7 grand into my 06 altima 2.5s special edition. Ive rebuilt and rewired everything. But i love her and cant let her go! 208,000 miles and runs great!
@@fredsmith1672 what have you rebuilt to make it work at 200,000 miles mines have 180,000 but I’m not really a car person
I had more problems with their new car sales people than I've had with the SUV.
You probably won’t see this but yesterday my moms Nissan Pathfinder 2008 did this. Went into the store, 10 minutes later, came out and boom it was dead. Found this video today and she was able to drive it home. Gonna replace that part asap. Thank you so much
Worst mistake I've ever made was buying a nissan. Thank god for videos like this because you will definitely need them
Aside from the corroded battery connector I haven't had any significant issues with my 2014 Xterra. I did break the fusible link assembly when trying to get the nut off so that I could replace the battery clamp - I did get the nut loose though. I replaced that clamp with a marine battery clamp but I had to slightly enlarge the mounting hole on the fusible link. Anyway, I did run into another issue when I went to replace the storage basket on the roof and found that the bolts were over tightened to where I broke some brass looking part, that the bolt screws in to, when trying to remove the bolt and that required that I drill out the bolts - not happy about that. Needless to say, I did not re-install the basket. I do have one of those "smart keys" that will open the car door but won't start the SUV (key goes into ignition but won't turn) - good think I have more than one key (and, by the way, another car to drive if this one fails).
My fiancee bought a Nissan without talking to me and I've been fixing it every freaking month. I swear to God I want to rip my hair out over this car constantly..
Me too a frigging nightmare, 08 frontier le bad radiator leaked to tyranny fried tcm and ecu 6800 dollars, crankshaft sensor then all sensors, now another electrical problem plus new driveshaft, new axles, tie rods on and on it goes in only 2 years
facts.
Nissan = 🗑 🚮
Me too, I hate mine won’t start tonight , it’s sitting in a parking lot
Thanks Brian. My 2015 Nissan Altima had the very problem you demonstrated on this video. My mechanic told me to take it back to the auction where I bought it. I took it to the dealer and they told me that it will take a minimum of 6 hours to diagnose the problem. They will have to take out the dashboard. It’s going to cost me a couple of thousands to diagnose and fix. I didn’t have that so I took it back home. I watched your video and the problem was solved in less than 30 minutes. Thank you so very much.
Well done!
man you are the truth you wouldn't believe how many dealerships I have took my Maxima 2 and specialist unreal but thanks again you are the truth
This ain't the kind of stuff they teach you in school thank you very much it fixed my car!! 🤩
Brother
You are a blessing! Thank you! This worked! I did a voltage test and was getting nothing. The screw and wire were oxidized. I followed your steps and I get 14.4 volts with the car running using that as the ground
I always respect your honesty! Went from GM to Nissan but proly should of just bought a Toyota.
I have a 2014 Xterra and had to replace my fusible link. You have convinced me to keep a spare fusible link assembly in the car along with the tools to replace it.
This video absolutely helped me , my Nissan Altima won't start but once I put a little pocket knife in that spot it cracks right up ! It's a bummer since I just got it . . .
Thanks for the great video! My daughter's Nissan Xterra wouldn't start. I'm not a car guy, so I had no idea why. Your video gave me a place to start. We changed the connections, cleaned everything and it started right up!
Greg Funk YES!!! Way to go! You found the answer and you made it happen!
Awesome, you are the first young (I am retired) person that I have heard use the "Planned Obsolescence" term. I can remember father using that term when I was growing up, so I used it with my children and grand children and tell them what it means.
Omg omg thanks sooooo much for this amazing video. I had the same issue today and I was able to fix my car just by doing this. You saved me $$$. God blesses you.
I added Electrical conducting grease to the relay/fuse connections and sandpaper the flat surfaces over the Battery posts. Now works.
It’s August 13, 2021 and this video just helped me a lot I was about to junk my car until I seen this video so think so much
Omg!! Thank you for making this video!! This is how we got my son’s Nissan Titan started!! I can’t thank you enough!!!
What was the problem or symptoms with the titan my won’t start
@@sergiochilel6164 the fuse on the battery was fried from being jumpstarted jncorrectly by my father in law. I was able to start my sons truck by following this video!
in the video did you jump over the fuseable link. bypassing it
Thanks! The guys at the auto store said I needed a new starter. I returned the $200 starter and went to the dealership paid $28 for the fusible link and it fired right up!
Hey man ur video saved me this weekend. Everywhere i read said its the brake pedal sensor. I had no money for that part and no where near a parts store. The car was doing nothing, no lights, no power locks, no sound, completely dead. Thanks for the video.
Update: i have a 2015 nissan altima and i took the poaitvie battery terminal off and cleaned those connections as well.
What is the part called? The same thing just happened to me on my Nissan Quest it won't start the horn won't blow the lights won't go on nothing
THANK YOU! Thank you! Thank you! You saved me a wrecker bill (at least).
Ordering the spare fuse box, and a new cable to replace the corroded one. I thought I was somehow being negligent in taking care of my car because there was always a ton of corrosion building up on the battery, , but now I know it's just a design flaw, and it's going to do this again. At least I know where to start. I hope I can get the grease at my local parts place or WalMart?
Thanks again!
So good to see your comment! The mechanics that’d fix and replace my Nissan 2012 batteries and the brain once would ridicule me for not maintaining the battery... I was but it doesn’t seem to prevent the massive corroding of my 5-6 batteries plus one time it was so bad it literally affected the brain of the car that Nissan so conveniently put next to the battery 🤦🏻♀️ I hate Nissan! I love my car except all the bs expenses and time and effort put in just to use it
Both of my Nissan Altimas have the corrosion on battery terminals too. I've always wondered why even though I clean and maintain every few months.
Vaseline works great for anti corrosion on battery terminals
This helped me so much was stuck here for 1 hour trying to figure this out.THANKS
Woow you just saved me bro. This was just my exact problem..06 Nissan Altima
GREAT QUESTION! My main concern is that the fuses are so close to the positive terminal. While this looks good on paper, it lends them to be VERY vulnerable to battery acid and subsequent corrosion. Mechanics and tow truck drivers see "no starts" very regularly from the positive side terminal tripling in size and turning blue, green, or white due to sulfuric acid. Fortunately you can cut off the end and replace it easy enough. However a configuration like this is harder to come by at a C-store.
Holy shit you have no idea u may have just saved me thank u!
I had the same problem with my 2006 Altima. Took seeing this video to figure it out. Thank you.
Wow! My GF has this car and i was fixing it, and you literally mentioned everything i also hate about the car! So many stupid things they did, I'm glad im not alone i feel better. The whole battery terminal monstrosity is the worst i've seen!
Perfect video Brian, learned a lot. Thanks for that... I might be able to help someone on the road who has this issue.
This saved me alot of time. New part on the way. Thank you for uploading!!!
I just replaced my fusible link and clamp but I'm going to order an extra fusible link to keep in the car. There's nothing worse than being 500+ miles from home with a car that won't start and/or can't get the part locally.
Haha, it's refreshing to hear you talk like this. I really enjoyed it :)
Thanks for the heads up, sounds like a helpful spare part to get ahead of time!
2013 Altima. I have frequent build up corrosion on B+ on battery. Cleaned the terminal again last week wondering why it happens. Spotted your video, nice work. Your explanation of a a "lazy" design and bad hygiene made sense. Going to get a spare battery fuse block and reclean and protect the terminal better. Only reservation is that it's not a $200 part now.
Thank you very much for this Video.I was able to fix my wifes Nissan I changed the exact same part and it works like a champ now 👍👍👍💯
I just had an 03 altima in my shop for 2 full weeks.By far the most annoying vehicle i have ever put my hands on. And to think i nearly bought an altima. great videos BTW thanks for taking the time to record and share your knowledge.
Thank you for this. I actually looked this up just to start my Mom’s Ford Focus and wanted to be sure I connected the jump cables correctly. Never did I imagine such an informative video and a guy that breaks it down in a way I understand too! Since choosing my 2012 Nissan Altima 2.5 or whatever, I’ve replaced 4-5 batteries due to corrosion, I’ve also had to by the “brain” of the car once because the battery corroded to the point it contacted connections to the brain and killed my car 🤦🏻♀️ that was expensive! Sorry ik very little in mechanic terminology however ik what sucks and replacing batteries about every two years sometimes more it seems flat out ridiculous, it’s costly, and can affect more than just the battery. Nissan should be forced to pay for every battery, car brain and service charge we owners acquire due to their bad planning. I do love my Nissan minus all the headaches but I’ll never buy one again! That and because it’s a foreign vehicle insurance is outrageous supposedly due to part costs
)
2nd time I'm fixing this for 2012 nissan murano.. Thanks for the video.
Great information presented in in an easily comprehended format.
Thanks Man. Excellent, to the point video. This just happened to Mom's Murano (rolling POS) so I appreciate you solving this puzzle and sharing. Saved me a day and a half of trying everything else and a pocket full of money. I'm subscribing. ~Keep on Keepin' on. ~S
Thank you so much for this. I love my '02 Altima, but what a pain in the a$$. So many small fixes and now I'm having the issue that you talk about in this video. Guess I'm gonna make a trip to the dealership for the part tomorrow.
the trouble with my 02 altima brought me here
We have Nissans at school. I’d add to your list their belt tensioner. Both the v6 and 4cyl. They always get rounded over and are fun to replace
Great video and information. What a problem! Horrible that they keep making their cars like this leaving the customers with the problems after buying their vehicles
You are the best! Your parents did a great job!
I just needed my Altima to start after battery replacement to trade it in!! I never post anything on CZcams but Your VIDEO WORKED for my '02 Altima SE!!!! Thank You Soooo Much your video saved me $$$ I was thinking alternator until I found your VID now I can trade it Thanks Again
Trade it in for a toyota/Lexus. Renault =Nissan =junk
You made me look good! I helped some folks that had this issue. Thanks.
Thanks Brian another great tip if your ever working on Nissans. And don't feel bad for complaining about it. Little problems like that one that leave you on the side of the road suck for anyone. And I agree Its just stupid for the company not to fix them.
So I love that you are shiting on Nissan right now I don't hate them but I'm not a fan. That's probably why there selling them so cheap right now. So my neighbor just bought a new Nissan Altima and tried to compare it to my Subaru Legacy I was trying to be polite but I just but out laughing cause I know there's no real comparison except there both Japanese cars LOL
+jeremy jones actually the nissan has lots of French in it. and french cars dont have a strong reliabilty record
Japanese really got to love it . Their getting us back for the big one. Thanks man .
Actually it's French quality in a Japanese brand. Renault-Nissan junk.
lol. I feel your pain bro. Thanks for the post. My element was giving me fits, and although this turned out not to help, I enjoyed the video. Well said!!!
Thanks for the video, clear & concise! 👍
Wow!!!! This was very helpful. I've been having problems with Nissan Sentra doesn't want to start looked like electric problem they said it was battery but lights going on and off, so yeah left stranded many times, just getting sick and tired of it all. Now I see this and explained a lot of the issues. Wow!!! I'll give it a shot. Thank you so much. 😊
Welcome! Nice to hear from you. Thanks for the thumbs up!
Great commentary. Thanks!
If you did a video, I think you have huge following and would help out a lot of people and you know how to explain exactly what it is all about.
Thanks I really appreciate your video…it was enormously helpful! Have a blessed day
You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT about these cars, bro! I HATE mine.... or soon to be not mine.
Been trying to get ours jumped even bought a battery box. Was stranded for a day til we tried this then it was able to read the battery voltage an start 'er right up! Thanks a bunch 💌
YOU WIN!!! CONGRATULATIONS on finding the answer and getting your Nissan started! You're welcome Donali!
A fuse must be installed as close to the power source as possible. If it were moved away from the source and there was a short between the fuse and the battery, there would be no safety feature to prevent a fire or battery explosion. A little maintenance goes a long way. Engine bay cleaning and battery terminal protection grease would prevent this. I am on my sixth Altima, all over 200,000 miles and never had this issue.
THANKS!!! It worked. I was @ my wits End Then put a finger nail clipper on both bolts by the fuse and it Started!! And now keeps starting w/o the tool touching..
Thanx bud
You just saved me a tow and mechanic bill
Thank you so much!! This is exactly what was wrong. Got a new battery fuse and she starts right up!
Wow. Thanks. I know someone who can use this information. love your channel.
I think you just saved us. we were stuck on the road. Tha k you!!
For some reason I found this one very entertaining, thank you.
Inherent in the question is the gap between the young engineers who design these cars and those who fix them. I always felt that engineers need to work from the ground up, rubbing shoulders with those who make and fix their vehicles. Any mechanic would roll his eyes at the thought of a fuse box so close to corroding battery cables....
i guess Im randomly asking but does anyone know a method to get back into an Instagram account??
I somehow forgot the password. I would love any tips you can offer me!
@Forest Braylen Instablaster :)
@Erik Alfonso Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and Im trying it out atm.
I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Erik Alfonso It did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much, you saved my account !
@Forest Braylen No problem :D
Thanks for sharing. Great info. I need one of these for my Nissan Versa. Do you now of you can get this fuse from an auto parts store or do you have to go to the dealer?
Thanks . great video. i see the moisture by the battery cover to add acid. Mine stopped even on jump because of corrosion. I have maybe 3 or 4 power plugs connected to the positive post. I would get 14-16v on my batteries (2 ) on a max, but inside it would drop anywhere from 7-10 volt when it stopped. and every once in a while it would dip down like it was dying. i thought it was a bad cell and replaced a battery . but this was the problem. Thanks again. I brought a brush & battyer protectant to clean everything until I get a yellow top gel battery
Thanks Brian for the video. I have a Nissan Altima too and sure enough the PLASTIC hood rod holder broke, I Just tuck it under that black foam piece on the underside of the hood.
Actually it's not laziness - it's called bean counters. They'll drive everything down to a price and they KNOW you're gonna be replacing things more often. And it's gotten ever worse since Renault bough Nissan.
thanks for the tips, I think I have same problem...will check then confirm here it works cheers
You are fun and soo honest content, thank you
Hey, I love my Nissan! My Xterra has been, by far, the most reliable vehicle I have owned. It takes all of the abuse I serve it and never misses a beat. I can't say the same for my Chevy that I have owned a month and has already broken down twice. Four years with my Xterra and it has never left me stranded once. One month with the Chevy and it's quit on me twice. By the way, my 2001 Xterra does not have that type of fuse set up, somebody at Nissan must have got stupid in more recent years.
Thanks for the heads up! I have a nissan versa and i didnt even know this! Glad i caught this video. Clicking subscribe bc this is the second useful video i have found of yours!
hey man, thank you for the quick response.. thank you for your time :) im gonna read some about fob key
Thank you so much you just saved me from being stranded
Thanks for sharing the truth from a mechanics point of view.
you really helped me out in getting to know my new altima. The hood prop broke on mine, too. The fuse issue gave me a heads-up. i'll be buying one. I love the car but issues like this are a pain.
Get a toyota/Lexus. You'll thank me later.
where they actually make contact it scrapes through it and conducts fine. Anywhere else that isn't actively contributing to the connection is insulated. This prevents the sacrificial anode effect. GREAT GREAT QUESTION!
Definitely gotta give you credit on this one! 109 degrees outside and the '07 Sentra just said 'F' troop! Luckily, 777Towing got to me within 20 minutes so didn't have to suffer long. Broke out the umbrella and commenced tah sweating! The tow driver was baffled as to the possible cause; chiming, no dash lights, hazards work but no audible relay action (clicking). Get home and I actually look at this part (the fusible link) because it's right at the positive terminal as you mention, but it's so damn deceiving...I see four links that you can glance at and they are fine. What you don't see, and here's where the hat gets tipped off to ya, is the "other" hidden fusible link (ignition no doubt) that's under a nice plastic cover. Remove the positive cable, flip the assembly upside down and whoops there it is...Absolutely incredible. Found the 'missing link' thanks to you!
my 2007 nissan murano just started doing this a month ago and its getting aggravating. gonna look into this fix tomorrow
I'll try it for my 1997 Maxima. Thanks man.
i have a 2012 altima that the fusible link terminal corrosion welded itself to the positive terminal nut. what an adventure that was to replace. i had to use PB blaster and an impact gun to break it loose
Excellent information Brian.
Just tried it and it worked..WoW. thanks
Thank you for sharing this information!!! I have a 2006 Altima and it acts as if it will start but then nothing happens just like in the video. The 1st sign that there was a problem was when I locked my doors at the gas station then upon leaving I unlocked it through driver window and the alarm went off. Started car went home. Turn car off and proceed to get out so I lock my doors. The alarm goes off again. Had to start my car and put it in drive. Lol. Not sure if that turned the alarm off but it worked. The next day my car wouldn't start.
Rhonda Sidibe you gotta reset the alarm I had the same problem
I always hated working on Nissans, they rust like crazy in Canada and funny thing is I just bought one but it was a really good price and needed a car before the winter so I got it. Just never buy a Nissan Versa I really hate those, but I guess its different for people who drive one and people who have to fix them.
Katicus lol same here. My 98 ford f150 finally bit the dust and I got a good deal on a 2001 nissan frontier 3.3 liter crew cab that has issues. I too was in desperate need for another vehicle, but this nissan has its share of issues too. $2500 is what I paid for the nissan.
Don't buy a versa because YOU hate them lol
Yup, yup, and yup. You have my sympathy! Got a dead one of these. Fuel, spark, air - just no run. Exhaust full of fuel now! Fun. Thanks man. Good vid.
your the man bro thanx a bunch this exact thing happened to me and cost me but u saved me even more thanx broooo
Most auto supply stores sell felt washer sets that help prevent or minimize battery sweat.
Another great video, thanks Brian.
Man, I wish I had my 95 Nissan mini truck back. I had it for 5 years and had zero problems with it.
Keep up the fantastic work broski
Thanks Joe!
I agree, I'm on my 4th Subaru now and I've never had a problem with any of the ones I've owned.
I will definitely be buying the fuse. I literally parked my Xterra and now it won’t start. I know what I’ll be doing tomorrow
Battery Terminal Fuse block. I've only ever found them in the Nissan dealership parts dept.
Good on ya man! I really like your user name too!
This happen to my 2005 nissan maxima and my right passenger window was half way down stuck for a day until i found out what it was with this video thanks 🙏🏼 .
I have 05 max also same issue great car overall with little annoying issues but reliable!!
Very informative video. I'm currently working on a 2003 Altima SE and the same thing is happening to me. I thought it was a fuse until my whole entire dash went out but all my fuses checked good. Then I knew it had to be some type of grounding issue. I'll change that and see what happens. Thank you.
dieselstar5 You should be able to tell if it's bad without just replacing it. You can see if any of the fuses are broken.
i love my 03 nissan murano lmao...got it for 300$ cause the previous owner got tired of throwing money at it and tried but couldnt change his alternator....alternator and 2 lower balljoints now i got a really nice certified winter beater...one trouble free winter so far but now that i seen this in my feed im changing those before the snow falls
Great vid. I have alot of the same common complaints haha
You are a bad-ass Brian. Great vid, as usual.
